Chapter 12: The Feelings of Tinkerelias
"Are you ok?" Asked Tinkerelias. Tinkerbell looked around and realized that she was stirring a pot in her kitchen at home. How did I get here? She thought; When did everyone return from lunch? How long have I been here? She looked into the pot she was stirring and saw an exorbitant amount of mashed potatoes. She hadn't realized it until she set eyes on the potatoes, but she was extremely hungry.
"The potatoes are ready." She said to Tinkerelias as she turned off the stove.
"I'm serious. Are you ok?" Asked Tinkerelias as he walked toward the table. "You seem out of it lately."
"I am fine. What about you? You've been acting odd in public lately." Said Tinkerbell. At this point she was face to face with Tinkerelias, or more like face to chest.
"You left." He said with a serious expression on his face. "You got angry so you left. How do I know you won't leave again the next time you get angry? Not only did you leave, but you won't tell me where you went. Every time our friends grill you about where you were, it's a reminder that you won't even tell me about your journey. I'm your best friend. I thought we could tell each other everything. I thought we could weather any storm, but at the first sign of trouble you ran out and now you refuse to talk about it. What happens to our relationship if we start keeping secrets?"
"I want to tell you, I really do. But....." Just then a knock came at the door. Tinkerbell froze as the image of the solvers filled her mind. She pictured all twenty of them looming over her as the lead home solver handed down a harsh punishment. It was rumored that they all wore long black coats that rippled in the wind as they flew at top speeds. Her whole body shivered as she pictured her friends' faces when they watched her take her inevitably harsh punishment. The knock came again and tinkerbell watched, still frozen, as Tinkerelias moved toward the door.
"Noooooo!" Screamed Tinkerbell as she flew past Tinkerelias and blocked his path to the door. "The potatoes are getting cold. You go eat. I'll get the door."
"Umm....Ok." Said Tinkerelias as he turned away from the door and walked back to the table. Tinkerbell took a deep breath as she opened the door, fully expecting the sky to be dark with the black clad solvers. What actually awaited Tinkerbell on the other side of the door was a shock. A lone girl stood at the doorstep holding an extreme amount of green fabric.
"May I help you?" Asked Tinkerbell, relieved that it was not the solvers come to take her away.
"I am Tinkercasey from the human fairy village. Changerfaye requested that I make this outfit for you." Said the small girl from underneath the mountain of fabric. Tinkerbell's heart skipped a beat as she realized the mistake she had made. In her efforts to keep her encounter with Peter Pan a secret, she had forgotten that he needed her help. For a week, she had left him alone to fend for himself. She wasn't even sure if he had found his way to the Tree of Life or if Hook had captured him. Anxiety filled Tinkerbell's mind as she thought of all the horrendous things that could have happened to Peter Pan in her absence.
"I have to go. I'll return. I promise!" Tinkerbell shouted to Tinkelias as she grabbed the green garment from the home tinker and flew off.
It was taking too long for Tinkerbell to fly to the Tree of Life. The large amount of fabric she was carrying was weighing her down immensely and the longer she flew, the more fear crept into her heart. She had left a soaking wet Peter Pan next to the Great Lake with only a note containing vague instructions on how to reach the Tree of Life. Her speed increased as she worried for the abandoned child. It took all of her strength, but she was able to slightly pick up her speed while carrying the enormous human garment. Eventually the Tree of Life came into view.
Tinkerbell swooped down to the foot of the tree and found a surprise awaiting her. A small fire had been set and many roasted fish lay next to it. Behind the fire was a mound of leaves and straw that had been turned into a bed. The wet clothes that Peter Pan had been wearing when Tinkerbell found him lay dry on top of the leaves as a makeshift blanket. It seemed that the boy was not as helpless as Tinkerbell had assumed. She wondered what kind of upbringing this boy must have had to know how to take care of himself in this manner. The sound of leaves rustling came from deep in the forest and Tinkerbell quickly hid behind the Tree of Life.
Peter Pan appeared in the clearing wearing nothing but underwear and holding a dead quail in his hands. The frail, innocent boy that Tinkerbell had been drawn to was nowhere to be found. In his place was a hunter, a man. It scared her to see him with blood on his face and a kill in his hands. She dropped the outfit she had brought for him and scribbled out another note.
To Peterpan
I have brought clean clothes for you. They will keep you warm. Humans are not allowed in Neverland. Please go back to The Kingdom as soon as possible.
From Tinkerbell
Tinkerbell placed the note on top of the clothing and flew to the top of the Tree of Life where she wouldn't be seen. She watched as Peter Pan threw his quail on the fire before catching sight of the clothing. He read the note and quickly looked around for the person who had written it. When he saw that there was no one else in the vicinity, he threw down the note and picked up the green clothing.
As the garment unrolled, a pair of green shoes and a green hat fell out of the bundle. Peter pan slipped his new outfit over his head and Tinkerbell let out a small gasp. The boy looked like a larger version of Tinkerbell. Changerfaye must have ordered the clothing from the home tinkers using the same lie Tinkerbell had used, that the clothing was for a human size statue of herself. For this reason, Peter Pan was now wearing a larger version of Tinkerbell's green dress. The only difference between his look and her own was the newsboy style green hat that the boy wore on his head. Tinkerbell wasn't surprised by this addition to the look. Human fairies tended to take creative license wherever they could. After donning the entire outfit, Peter Pan moved around to test out the fit of his new clothing. It fit him pretty well. The hat brought out the sheen of his beautiful red hair and Tinkerbell was delighted by his new look.
After fully testing out the give of the outfit's fabric, Peter Pan sat down for dinner. He slowly ate his quail as he sat next to the crackling fire. It was an unusually cold night and Peter Pan was curled up to the fire as close as possible. Again, he picked up the note that Tinkerbell had included with the clothes. He used the charcoal rock and scribbled something at the bottom of the note. The fire eventually died out and Peter Pan crawled into his makeshift bed. He pulled his old clothes over himself to act as a blanket and silently drifted to sleep.
Tinkerbell flew down from her high branch to look at the note that Peter Pan had written. She landed extremely close to the boy's face where she could see a pained expression. His eyes were closed tight and his bottom lip was quivering as if he were about to cry. It seemed like he was having a nightmare. She walked up to his note but the letters were too big for her to make out at such a close distance. To better see the letters, she flew higher until the full note came into view. She read it slowly.
