Chapter One: A New Start
It was still pitch black when the car pulled up in front of the school. Two figures walked out and began unloading the trunk. "I'm sorry you have to come to school so early, but I have to make sure I have everything ready for my classes." The oldest of the two said. She was a tall, leaner young woman with pale skin, very fair hair and almost crimson eyes. The younger of the two, Ludwig, simply shrugged. He didn't really care that he wouldn't ever be able to sleep in, he was an early raiser anyways. Besides, it would give him a chance to get everything ready for the day and double check his homework. The two finished unloading the car and walked over to the classroom Gilberta would be teaching in. It was time to begin the move.
"Hey Gilly, where do you want me to put this picture?" Ludwig asked, holding up a picture of their family, the very first picture taken when they first moved to America. Gilberta smiled as she thought back to how poor her English was back then. Her accent was still very prominent, but she was proud of that. "Einfach auf meinem Schreibtisch, Ich werde später beheben." (Just put it on my desk, I'll fix it later.) "Ja, Ma'am. Was auch immer Sie sagen, Ma'am." (Yes, ma'am. Whatever you say, ma'am." He said with a flash of a rare smile.
"Oh, stop joking around, you little kidder!"
"Hey, you always taught me respect."
The two finished moving all of Gilberta's things into the classroom. The insanity that was high school was about to begin.
History was going to be an interesting class for Ludwig for two reasons, one, he was in an advanced class, and two, his older sister was his teacher. There was very little doubt in his mind that he would have to work very hard in order to prove that he wasn't just a "teacher's pet". When he walked into the class, he saw that there were already assigned seats. He took his place between two boys who seemed like polar opposites, one was smiling brightly and the other was just sitting there very quietly. "Ciao! I'm Feliciano Vargas!" The smiling boy beamed. The quieter one turned to Ludwig. "Kon'nichiwa, my name is Honda Kiku. You would say it 'Kiku Honda',"
The greetings were quite interesting, but this high school was know for the large amounts of immigrants that attended. It was a tradition to first greet students in the way of the country you came. Ludwig decided it was best to keep that tradition. He even decided to use "good morning" instead of "hello". "Guten Morgen, I'm Ludwig Beilschmidt." Feliciano made a small gasp. "Hey, that's the same last name of our teacher!" Before Ludwig could explain, Gilberta entered the room.
"Guten Morgen, klasse. Good morning, class. I am your new teacher. My name is Gilberta Beilschmidt. My full name is Gilberta Maria Beilschmidt. You may call me Ms. Beilschmidt. Since this is our first day, I would like to use this as a chance to get to know each other. So, are there any questions?"
