The book ends with Stillwater waking up the hospital and the nurse asking: "Do you remember your name?" and Anthony rasping out "Ant. My name is Ant." And seeing on the clipboard it says "John Doe #17" for his name.

The last line should be: My name is Anthony Stillwater, and I refuse to die.
