Grey wants nothing more than to eat dinner with Ari then get some sleep. And once the pump has stopped Grey goes to the door once more but before he can open it Sheila is kissing him again.
Before he knows it they are more than kissing and Grey forgets all about food and Ari. But Ari has awakened and she watches them silently as her tears fall. This time it's not rape. Ari has no more stomach to watch and rolls onto her other side.
She wakes up and doesn't know why even as she turns to her side and screams. Just like that other world Sheila has a knife and is about to stab Grey. This time though her scream wakes Grey and he takes the knife painfully out of Sheila's hand and smack's Sheila away from him. The guards run in with guns drawn.
Grey shakes out his hand. He'd hit her pretty hard and it hurt. "Take that bitch out of here. You'd better wrap a blanket around her or there will be hell in the camp. She's under arrest for attempted murder. Mine." And that reminds them that these two are the reason she was in here in the first place.
"Just why the hell did you let that bitch in here in the first place?" Grey demands as they wrap the still unconscious woman in the blanket. Grey was standing in all his glory waiting for an answer.
"She said that you sent for her. We thought that was why you asked for the extra food and the air mattress."
The food that was never eaten. Grey feels too sick to eat. "That wasn't for her and me it was for Ari and me. Where the hell...?" Grey shoos them out the door. Ari is hiding and he sees that she is shaking and absolutely terrified of him.
"Ari, it's alright. I won't hurt you. I promise. I want to thank you. You saved my life tonight. Please take my hand." Grey tries to soothe her but she just shrinks even further from him shaking even more.
Anna and Taren burst through his door. "Grey are you all right we heard Ari scream..." Anna trails off as she realizes that Grey is as naked as the day he was born and that Ari is cowering in fear.
"Grey so help me if you've done anything to that poor girl, I'll kill you myself." Anna says.
Grey looks at Anna and snarls, "Go to hell Anna."
Ari shrinks back from him even further after that.
"At least get dressed Grey. She's terrified seeing you like that, though most females would love to see you in your birthday suit." Grey gives her another dagger filled look, but he stands up and gets some clothes on, at least the pants.
"Sheila that she hound came in here all hot and heavy. She tried to kill me and Ari screamed waking me up in time to keep the knife at bay. I might have killed that bitch if I hadn't worried about Ari going all...well it seems like it doesn't matter she did anyway."
"Where is Sheila?" Anna asks, truly surprised that there isn't any blood. Grey is trained to protect himself by taking out the enemy not just disarming him or her in this case.
"Earlier they found the dungeon. I figure some time in there will do her some good." Grey says with a smile that's not very nice. It was a good thing he wasn't facing Ari or she wouldn't ever go near him again. He'd also made sure that Ari didn't hear where they were taking Sheila. She already has had enough trouble this night as it is.
"So that's why your tent is unguarded? I wondered about that." Taren says aloud. All the time he'd been watching Ari just to make sure that she wouldn't be a problem.
"We'll leave now Grey." And he practically pulls Anna out the door with him. Once they are out Anna turns on him.
"Peace Anna. That girl Ari was finally starting to relax. I think that Grey can get her calmed down now." Taren says and gently pulls Anna back towards her tent.
"Ari?" Grey says and sits on the floor and just holds his hand out to her.
Ari slides a little closer to him but doesn't take his hand. "I warned you about her and still you slept with her." Ari accuses Grey.
"Yes, you did and unfortunately I didn't listen to you." Grey says patiently and just holds out his hand.
Ari just shakes her head. She's still trembling at the violence and no longer knows if she can trust this Grey.
Grey tries his luck and moves closer to her and when she doesn't move away from him goes closer still. When he's close enough that he can catch her if she tries to move Grey stops and Ari relaxes a little more.
Ari is still shaking and when she speaks it doesn't make much sense to him. "It wasn't rape this time. You wanted this. You could have stopped it and you didn't. It wasn't rape this time." She just kept repeating herself over and over.
"Ari, I could have stopped her you're right. And I should have stopped her and thrown her out of this tent, but like happens so many times with men, my brain stopped working once the kissing started." Grey sighs. "I should have stopped her."
Ari doesn't hear his apology she's too busy crying. This time it wasn't rape. She forgets her fear of him and puts her head on her knees and cries. She's not sure if she's crying because he wasn't raped or because he so willingly was with another person.
When she's lifted onto Grey's lap she doesn't turn to him like she had before. He chose to be with Sheila this time.
As Grey holds her he feels guilty, more guilty than he's ever felt before. Sheila came onto him not the other way around so why did he feel so much guilt? He holds Ari and lightly strokes her hair.
When she stops crying and is breathing evenly he goes to put her back in his bed but can't just let her go. He finds a solid back rest and falls asleep with Ari still in his arms.
The cold wakes him up first. His back is cold and something hard is poking it. That's when he wakes up enough to remember. Ari was all smoshed up so Grey readjusted her position then laid her on his bed.
He thought about putting her on the air bed but decided that wouldn't be a smart thing to do. He covers her with a blanket and gives up on more sleep. He slips out of the tent with clean clothes and goes to the showers. After last night he needs one.
He takes a quick shower and returns to the tent. He sees the two trays of food left untouched on his table and he takes them to the garbage bins and dumps them. He returns to the tent and finds the guards stone faced.
"Don't tell chef or you'll be eating MRE's right along with me." Grey threatens.
He slips back inside just as reveille sounds. He turns out the lamp. It will be light enough soon he won't need it anyway. How did things get so out of hand?
He lets Ari sleep as long as he can. "Ari, wake up. You need to wake up now. We need to go eat breakfast. Then we'll have to hurry if we want to go back to the vault today."
They had to return. Both he and Ari have questions to ask them. Ari woke up but she doesn't want to get up. The events of last night played endlessly through her mind.
"I'm not hungry, just leave your guards and go eat." Ari says without any emotion. She really wasn't hungry. After watching him be with someone he knew would kill him or at least try, she didn't want to be around him much.
Grey frowns. "Ari if I go in there without you I'd get in trouble. I won't force you to eat but people have to witness that I at least tried to feed you. Too many people already know you didn't eat dinner last night."
"Grey if you haven't noticed it's not like I have a lot of clothes. I don't have clothes or toothbrush or a hair brush. It's not like there's much I have to do to get ready." This time her sarcasm is laid on thick and heavy.
Grey looks at her with narrowed eyes and Ari doesn't even see it since she's looking away from him. Grey walks over to her picks her up and sets her in her chair. He goes over to his hygiene supplies and grabs his brush and hands it to her. She just holds it in her hand and doesn't use it.
Grey draws in a deep breath and calmly takes the brush back and starts brushing her hair. This just makes Ari cry as she remembers what she saw in the other world, but she doesn't make any sounds.
When he's done Grey hands her a new toothbrush and toothpaste. Listlessly she brushes her teeth and Grey hands her a cup of water. She rinses and he holds another cup for her to spit in. "After breakfast we can run up to your apartment in the castle and you can change clothes there. We'll bring back some clothes so this won't happen again."
Ari doesn't say anything even as Grey takes her to the noisy mess tent. The soldiers quiet down as he walks down the narrow aisle pushing the wheelchair. He picks up two trays and hands one to her.
She takes it more so that he won't get more angry than because she wants it and the same for the food as they go down the line. The more food she gets the less hungry she is. Finally Grey is satisfied and takes her to a little table away from the main group of tables. He sets his tray down and takes hers off her lap and sets it on the table. Then like a gentleman he pushes her chair in close to the table.
Grey sits far enough away that she wouldn't feel like he was looming over her but close enough he can help her if she needs help. Then he gives her a low voiced command. "Eat a little and we will leave. But before we leave you will eat at least some of that food. And believe me it's better when it's warm."
Ari believes him. She's eaten soldiers food before. She takes a few bites and mechanically chews and swallows. She's not really hungry but her stomach reacts to the feeling of food inside her and so she keeps eating. She ends up eating most of the food from her plate and now she feels a little sick, but she doesn't say anything to Grey.
Grey takes her much emptier plate and scrapes the leftover food into the garbage before setting the empty trays on the pile.
Returning to Ari he takes her out and they go up towards the castle. Taren and Anna join them as they go. Anna doesn't like the silence or the lethargic look on Ari's face.
"So what is so magical about this castle Grey? Looks rather cold and uncomfortable to me." Anna says but her gambit doesn't work.
Ari stays silent and Grey is too angry to talk. They walk the rest of the way in uneasy silence.
The elevator wasn't working, "Taren you and Anna stay with Ari. I'm going to run up to her old room and pick up some clothes for her. I hope you left all your electronics in your tent Anna." Is all Grey would say and he runs up the stairs.
"We were able to collect almost all the bones from your mother's grave. They are in the casket with her brother Gerren. They'll be sent back today. Once they get back you're mother will be interred in the family crypt along with Gerren. Now maybe Grandma can rest." It has been a long held belief that her grandmother hasn't rested peacefully in her sleep.
"She's glad to be going back. Thank you Anna." Anna thinks it weird the way Ari talks like her mother told her she's glad to be going back.
Grey comes back down dressed as he had in the forest. He has a bundle of clothes for Ari and his uniform under his arm.
"You're out of uniform Grey." Taren says without humor. This is totally unlike Grey.
"It's necessary, as you'll see in a bit." Grey replies not a bit self conscious about how much skin is showing. Ari doesn't even look.
