I followed bakugou into the police station. Denki gave me a big thumbs up before one last hug. Making sure I was all bundled up, he returned with the group outside and we waited inside. Bakugou hung his head and I allowed the teen to have his moment to grieve.
He only snagged a few glances at me. I looked his way for a while but none of us made the first advancement to a real conversation. I tried reaching over and placing a hand on his shoulder, I rubbed it up and down his back for a minute or so when he slowly shrugged it off.
I leaned back in my chair when I heard a creak on the floor. I smiled softly as Bakugou moved his chair slightly to where I was sitting... I think he needed company more than anything else right now.
"Y/N, your mother is apparently out fighting and we aren't able to get in contact with you father..." The receptionist behind the counter held the phone on her shoulder. "Y-You might have to stay here a little long, maybe overnight? I'm sorry, is that okay with you?"
"Sure..." No, no it fucking wasnt. I was tired, so I wanted to go home. I haven't seen Ryuko in days, i haven't seen my friends in days, i haven't seen my normal life in ages.
This isn't fair. This is bullshit.
...It wasn't the receptionists fault however. So I couldn't take out my anger on them, so I leaned back in my chair. My head harshly hit the wall. 'This... is going to be a long night.'
His mother came in first to collect her son. She embraced him in a hug and he just....kinda let her. His arms fell to his side as his father joined in on the hug...
You could see the fear in her eyes as she checked her son all over... it felt kinda lonely. I sat back and watched kinda awkwardly at the small family of three showing eachother support...
While his dad was busy filling out papers, his mom looked over at me. She crouched down to where I was sitting and put a hand on my shoulder, 'God... she was a goddess up close.'
"Hey kid, you're Y/N right?... I heard that your mother and father are busy..." She looked back at Bakugou and he quickly averted his gaze out the open doors. "If it's fine with your mother, can you stay over the night? How about even a few hours.... I would hate for you to wait here in the cold station.... How does that sound?"
"That... sounds great... Just let mom know where I am first?" She stood up and rubbed my head. Turning to the receptionist she gave all of her information to the police officer. She even briefly got to talk with Ma before the call dropped.
She waved me over, I followed the family as Mitsuki put an arm around her son. We were guided to the car and after an hour arrived at the Bakugou residence.
"Sorry, we've got stairs. Put those strong legs into work." She cracked a joke. We pulled out of the car and up the four flights of stairs. I didn't even hear what she said next as she opened the door for all of us to go into. Bakugou didn't even give me a second glance as he rushed to his bedroom and into a shower.
"He's... fast." It was the first thing I've said in a while.
"Don't worry, you can take a shower after him.. I'll find something for you to wear in the meantime. Dinner was already made before we picked the two of you up."
She guided me to the couch, I refused to sit all the way back. I must stink, I couldn't ruin their furniture.... As she was walking away, I called out to her, "Mrs. Bakugou? I really do appreciate the two of you allowing me to stay here while... my parents are busy..."
"Don't mention it, it's the least we could do for the two of you. Do you like sushi bowls? It's Katsuki's favorite... We've kinda been eating it nonstop since everuthings went down." Masaru showed me the pot of noodles and the different types of spices... huh, I never knew Bakugou was the spicy type.
Mitsuki handed me a gray hoodie with a black shirt, and a pair of plaid red pants under the hoodie. I quickly hopped in the shower and put on the clothes. She handed me a travel sized toothbrush and comb. I really did feel... appreciated here. I shuffled my way to the living room where the family was eating together. A bowl already set out for me.
They all had conversations and I could tell that even Bakugou felt more like himself the longer the night went on-- he even yelled at me that we matched and I should change my outfit. However, behind their bright smiling faces, I could tell that they were all tired. I tried to finish up the noodles as fast as i could, this was the only real food we've had in a while.
The couch was set with a few blankets and one pillow. I was thankful they gave me blankets so I wouldn't have to makeshift one out of anything I found in the house.
Trust me, I can and will make a blanket out of anything. I've done it before.
We wished each other a good night and they dimmed the lights to the living room. I was thankful for that, I don't think I could sleep in the dark right now.... Or even sleep at all.
I just inspected their house from the couch, too afraid to get up and disturb anyone sleeping. Nothing was left unsearched by my eyes, the lamp was helping me find details in the walls. Speaking of the lamp, Bakugou got up around twelve Am with a glare.
He found the light source and shut it off immediately. "It's too damn bright in here."
"Oh... I'm sorry."
He paused for a second before turning it on again, "What, are you afraid of the dark?"
"No..."
"If i keep the lights off, will you go to sleep or are you one of those stupid insomiacs."
"I can sleep just fine...for the most part. I just can't sleep right now." I confessed. He sighed and dragged a long hand over his face.
"You've gotta be kidding me, look..." He sat down on the coffee table and I was surprised it didn't break. "I'm here and I'll blast off any damn villain that tries to break in."
I looked at him as if he just lost his head, "Aren't you tired?"
"I'm so fucking tired, you don't understand. That's why I'm here. Not to help you but to speed up the process. So go to bed before I knock you out myself."
I closed my eyes, I would peek through them every once in a while and sure enough he was still there. Something within me relaxed and I was actually finally able to allow myself to get tired. Soon enough I was knocked out on my classmates' couch. I couldn't tell what the time was and ultimately drifted to sleep again. The third time I woke up, I was surprised to see Mitsuki up in the kitchen, softly humming a tune.
She jolted when our eyes met, "oooo... I'm sorry about that, Y/N. Did I wake you up?"
"No... Do you need help over there?"
"Hmmm, you can cut the fruit for me?" I pushed myself off the couch. Not before folding all of the blankets first. I made my way to the kitchen before washing my hands. Time flew by and soon the entire house was up. Again everyone ate and then sat on the couch.
I couldn't help but watch the door, where were you?
My leg bounced and Masaru turned on the Tv, "She'll be here soon. Trust me, she just needed to get a lot of things done first"
I was sick to my stomach, the news was just filled with small might and only him. I'm really tired of watching the news station twenty four seven. It felt like we waited hours for something to happen, good thing we didn't wait much.
There was a knock on the door, Bakugou's dad jumped up and opened the door. He opened the door and a voice turned all of our attention to them.
"Have you seen--Y/N!" I bolted off the couch and into Ryuko's arms. She held me close, caressing my hair and whispering sweet nonsense. I inhaled her scent, I couldn't help myself.
"Not to interrupt this...heartfelt reunion, but we're here to talk." I jumped as our teachers were dressed up nice at the door. We stood up, however we didn't break the hug. Aizawa walked inside and looked over his shoulder to us, "We... I would like to discuss some matters, you could join us if you would like...."
"If that's alright with you--" Ryuko looked over at Bakugou's parents. They were as shocked as us.
"Oh! Oh! Sit here!" Masaru fluffed up the pillows and Mitsuki took the blankets I used last night. We all sat down on the couches instead of the table they did in the show. Aizawa pulled up two chairs for him and Allmight.
"I believe we have already sent notice of this, but I'm here to talk about U.A.'s dorm system. The children will be separated by gender but they will share one building." All might start it off.
"They will be protected by other pro heroes and in an area we can keep all eyes on them... There's more in the email but we decided to come in person just for extra questions..." Aizawa finished his sentence, I looked up at Ryuko and she had a straight face. Her expression was unreadable, she continued to pet my head.
"Oh, sure! I'm counting on you!" Bakugou's mom hit him on the head as she flashed our teachers a smile.
"Don't hit me, old lady! I'll kill you!"
"Shut up! It's your fault to begin with for being so weak! You got caught, and now you're causing everyone trouble!"
"You hag!"
"You two... stop it..." Masaru sighed, he dragged his hand across his face. Ryuko ignored the family dynamic and continued to caress my head. "You're startling the teachers..."
"Shut up, damn old man! Don't butt in!"
"You're the one who should shut up!" She hit her son on the head again, "If you're going to talk, then speak clearly!"
All might turn to Aizawa, "What's with the darkness in this family...?"
"Um, is it really all right?"
"Hm? Oh, the dorm, right? We'd actually be grateful. Katsuki's reckless and really good at everything, and he was blessed with a good Quirk, too, so he had other people fawning over him all the time and ended up like this. He kept getting praised for shallow stuff. That's why I was really happy to hear what you said at the press conference."
"He is trying harder than anyone in his pursuit of becoming the 'top hero." Should... we be hearing this conversation? Aizawa continued his sentence, "If the villains saw that and thought they had an opening, Then I believe they are being short-sighted."
"Yeah, it made me think that this school was really watching him carefully. I was worried for a while and wasn't sure how it would turn out, but he's back safe and sound now, so... You might face some harsh criticism for a while, but I trust you guys and will leave him to you. Right? Yeah. He's a hopeless guy, but please train him hard and make him a good hero."
The family bowed at Aizawa and All Might, the duo then looked over to Ryuko. She was quiet.... The quietest I've ever really seen her in all of the time I've been with her.
"How do I put this? I'm a pro hero myself, so I should know what I was signing Y/N up for when they told me they wanted to go to the U.A..." She continued to play with my hair, "..Well, they technically signed themselves up... didn't you, Y/N."
"I suppose I was curious."
"Y/N has never really taken anything serious regarding their quirk... so when they told me that they decided to enroll themselves into UA i was.. Surprised. However it seems all that's happened since Y/N had joined U.A, nothing good has come out of it..."
"Are you referring to their head injury?"
She sighed, "Their memories still haven't returned. I'm afraid they never will, I feel like Y/N's lost a part of themselves forever. I allowed them to continue the hero course but it only caused them to go down a horrible path. I hate coming home to my little dragonfly injured, stressed and doubting their worth."
"...Y/N has never expressed their concern to us, we should've paid more attention... It's never UA's intention to lower a student's standard." Aizawa looked directly into my eyes.
"Some of the things the students have been saying to them about how they dont try hard enough, i'm not making any excuses for my child but i dont think its a very healthy environment..." I didn't even know that she overheard me complaining about UA. "I already have issues with them attending classes in the first place--but staying there in a dorm? I think not."
"You have every right to feel that way about our school. I admit, we made many mistakes when it comes to watching our students and being negligent in our teachings. We humbly apologize...not only to you young Y/N but to young bakugou as well.." All Might and Aizawa both got to their knees. I swear to God that everyone in the room looked as if they were going to pass out...
Aizawa lifted his head, "We never intend to bring harm to any student but I reassure you that this new system will keep them all safe. I don't blame you for having misgivings about the current UA, but the U.A. heroes also know that they cannot continue like this and are trying to change...Is there any way you can look not at the current UA, but at the future UA and what we can do in the future."
"Took the words right out of my mouth..." All might let out a small chuckle.
"I've learned from the best..."
"This is all... I don't even know if Y/N wants to go through with this..." Suddenly all eyes were on me.
Was this my opportunity to finally live a peaceful life? Was this an opportunity to try and go back to the life I once had and quit all of this hero shit?
A clean slate...?
Is this a new start...?
"It's up to Y/N if they would like to continue--" the duo stood up, and they were about to leave. "--You do not have to decide right now--"
I pushed myself off the couch, fast actually "Wait!... I want to continue being a part of UA!"
"We're happy to have you still with us, Y/N..." Aizawa finally flashed me a genuine smile.
Ryuko didnt raise me to be no bitch, I'll show everyone I can become a hero. Maybe even No.1-- nah...maybe.
