a/n: hi if any of you didn't know, halmoni means grandma in korean
his dark brown irises were reflected by colorful city lights as he watched the hustling and bustling of seoul underneath him. the sound of cars were audible but it was enough that he could enjoy the company of nobody but himself.
the frostbite only made his moment of trance undisturbed. it was not a time for outings like these, especially when winter days were just around the corner. he hugged his arms feeling the cold wind as white smoke escaped his pale lips. seokjin didn't know why he had the idea of staying there for a while.
maybe he wanted some peace of mind alone although he never had company anyway. he could only count the stars as the night went deeper. for a moment, he finally thought of going back to his apartment.
a soft melodic hum came out of his lips as he prepared to cook stir-fried squid and dumplings. aside from singing, another one of his 'passion' was cooking. seokjin was a big eater, and though he wasn't picky with food, he made sure every dish he cooked was five-star worthy.
he admired the dishes on the table, pleasant steam from each one creating a savory smell. it's not everyday that he cooked such dishes with effort, but he made sure the 'halmoni' always got to taste some of it; because he loves receiving compliments from her.
it's undeniable, seokjin wasn't just like any other boy - grabbing girls and flirting at first meet. no, he was not like them. in fact, he could get any girl wrapped around his finger because of; one, his ethereal facial features. two, his broad shoulders and admirable body. three, he's a gentleman. four, definitely not a fuckboy. five, he can cook well. and the list goes on and on.
seokjin placed a generous amount of the dish into the container, grinning as he thought of the kind old woman - his neighbor. quickly locking the door though he was not planning to take a while, he walked down the stairs and found the old woman's unit.
"halmoni?" seokjin softly knocks his knuckles on the door. after a couple more knocks, there were footsteps heard coming closer. the door busted open and unexpectedly, it wasn't halmoni.
the girl looked rather young and, familiar. "h-hyuri?" his words were unclear but it was totally clear to his eyes, it was the girl she recently met at the rooftop.
as per usual, her gaze was as cold as her voice. "what are you doing here." her question sounded more like a statement, and she looked at him like she wanted to quickly kick him out of the place. for sure she hated company, but seokjin kinda did too.
"where is halmoni?" he asked, eyes looking around the space behind her. she became silent for quite a long moment, which made him think he said something wrong.
"halmoni died yesterday." her voice had become even more lifeless as ever. there was a hint of despair in her glassy irises and she looked down all the time.
unable to come out of words, seokjin wished that the words slipping out of his mouth wouldn't make the situation worse. "i'm sorry." he was in disbelief, since he even talked to her earlier this day. who was she that seokjin saw, then? a mixture of perplexity and shock filled seokjin, but of course there was also the sadness.
just when seokjin was about to tap her shoulder in pity, the girl backed away and shuddered, "don't...touch me."
he was taken aback by hyuri's words, but hey, you can't expect a suicidal girl to be friendly. his gaze softened realizing how fragile she was. he thought for a second, maybe she needed company. maybe she was just immersed in loneliness. maybe she felt like nobody cared - and maybe she needed someone.
seokjin shamelessly stepped inside the apartment, not caring how hyuri had shot her lasers of glare. "what do you think you're doing?" the house looked cleaner than usual, he reminisced going inside last week when halmoni invited him.
the old, antique vintage sofa was still there. it was probably the most special thing related to halmoni. "g-get out," hyuri mumbled, struggling with words. seokjin snickered and placed the containers on the coffee table.
"i came here to bring these. let's eat together since you're pretty much alone." he announced, not even waiting for her opinion.
