26. THE END

part 2

"we met at the end of the world, and sat hand in hand as the stars went out"

★・・・★・・・★

My ears rang sharply as bullets flew in every direction. The shooters began to close in on us, and there was nothing we could do.

"What the hell happened to Klaus? He's supposed to be on the lookout," Diego screamed at us.

"Yeah, you surprised?" Luther asked.

"I told you guys he should've came!" I shot back.

The familiar sound of Five's spatial jump sounded within the theatre, and he appeared in the aisle next to me.

"What's with all the lallygagging?" He joked.

"Five, get down," Luther exclaimed.

I quickly grabbed his hand, and yanked him down just in time before he was shot.

Five pulled me in for a hug. "Thank god you're okay," he whispered.

"I was worried about you!" We pulled away from our embrace. "Where did you go?" I asked.

"It doesn't matter now," Five replied monotonously.

Luther interrupted our conversation. "I thought you bailed on us!" He shouted at Five.

"I had an errand to run." Five shrugged. "This is not good," he spoke to himself.

"You know these guys? Kid says they're here for her," Diego announced.

Five turned to me with a confused expression. "The Order?" He asked.

I nodded. "They came to the Super Star right after you left."

"What do they want?" Five questioned.

"Me," I responded uneasily.

Five frowned. He looked down the aisle, and noticed 3 men walking down with machine guns.

Five turned his head and faced me. I nodded, placing my hand in his, and we teleported next to the two enemies.

Five hopped on one's back, and moved him so that he shot his own ally.

I dove into the ground, and phased the last guy through. Half of his body was stuck in the floor, while the other half struggled to get out. I kicked the gun out of his hands, and made sure he couldn't reach it.

Five ran over to me, and teleported us back to our safe spot.

Out of nowhere, Klaus appeared running through the auditorium waving his hands and screaming. "Guys, it's Cha-Cha! It's Cha-Cha she's—"

"Klaus, get down!" Luther warned.

The Order pointed their guns at him, and began firing rapid shots. He ducked and held his head for cover.

Klaus stood up again slowly. There was a magical blue energy emitting out of his hands. Then, another man appeared in front of him.

The man glowed the same color blue. He pulled open his shirt and tentacles whipped out. His tentacles grabbed nearby Order members and began killing them.

My jaw dropped at the strange scene that unfolded right before my eyes. We all stared at the crazy and sudden power that Klaus just demonstrated. We stood up carefully and to get a better look.

"Oh my god," Luther hesitated. "It's him. Ben."

Soon enough, Ben had wiped out all of the Order members.

"Now who's the lookout?" Klaus announced with a new confidence. I smiled proudly at him.

In the midst of all that chaos, we had almost forgotten about Vanya. She continued to play her violin as power surged throughout her entire body and the theatre. Her black tuxedo transformed into a snowy white one, and her eyes shone even brighter than before.

White and blue streaks shot out from her violin, and hit the walls and pillars that were holding the auditorium together. The building started to crack and crumble. Dust and small pieces of the ceiling were already falling down.

"Oh, welcome back." Luther crossed his arms. "Where were you?" He asked Diego, who was walking over to us. I didn't even notice that he left.

"Honoring a memory," he stated simply. "So, how do you wanna end this thing?" Diego asked Luther.

"We surround her," Luther commanded. "We come at her from all angles."

Klaus sighed. "So, it's a suicide mission."

"Yeah, but one of us could get through. It's the only chance we've got," Five said determined.

"Are we all in?" Luther questioned the group.

All of us nodded and agreed to go through with the plan.

"Alright." Luther paused and looked up at his sister. "Alison?"

She shook her head, no. Luther sighed, but continued giving orders anyway.

Diego took stage left, Luther took stage right, and Klaus, Five, and I took the front.

I hid behind a row of chairs with Five as we waited for the signal.

"Now!" Luther bellowed.

All 5 of us dashed towards Vanya. I phased through chairs and the stage in an attempt to pull her under. As soon as we came close to her though, she released a powerful and blinding energy blast. We were all held by her powers, dangling and, almost, frozen in the air.

I could feel my powers slowly drain out of my body as I struggled to phase through and escape. It was no use though, this was the end.

Just when I thought we were all going to die, a gunshot rang throughout the collapsing building. The 5 of us were released from Vanya's hold, and dropped to the ground roughly.

We quickly got to our feet and ran onto the stage. Alison held Vanya in her arms and checked for a pulse.

"Is she alive?" Luther asked.

Alison whispered softly. "Yes."

"Oh, thank god," Klaus sighed in relief.

"We did it," Luther realized. "We saved the world," he exclaimed triumphantly.

A wide grin formed on my face as I pulled Five in for a hug. Finally, it was all over.

Our victory and happiness was short lived though. "Uh.. guys?" Klaus said and pointed towards the sky.

We all looked to where he was pointing to, and slowly stood up.

"You see the big moon rock coming towards us?" Klaus stated.

Through the hole in the ceiling, I could see a massive rock flying straight for us. Chunks of the burning moon were scattered like shooting stars across the sky.

"That's not good," Luther breathed.

Klaus sighed sadly. "So, this is it, huh? So much for.. saving the world."

"If only Sir Reginald could see us right now, huh?" Diego spoke. "The Umbrella Academy: A total failure."

"At least we're together at the end," Luther commented. "As a family."

"This doesn't have to be the end," Five spoke up.

"What?" I questioned in shock. It seemed like the end to me.

Luther furrowed his eyebrows. "What're you saying, Five?"

"I think I have a way outta here, but you gotta trust me on this," Five cautioned.

A chorus of no's sounded from Diego, Klaus, and Luther.

Five huffed. "Well, then, we might as well accept our fate because in less than a minute we're gonna be vaporized," he exclaimed.

I nodded and agreed with Five. "We're gonna die anyway, so what else do we have to lose?" I added.

"What's your idea, then?" Diego asked.

"We use my ability to time travel, but this time, I'll take you with me," Five explained.

"You can do that?" Diego asked hesitantly.

"I don't know," Five paused. "I've never tried it before."

"What's the worst that can happen?" Diego quizzed.

Five chuckled slightly. "You're looking at it."

"Oh, what the hell. I'm in," Diego exclaimed.

"Yeah, whatever, I'm in," Klaus added.

"Me too," I agreed.

"Alison?" Luther questioned.

She nodded her head, and we all agreed to Five's plan.

"What about Ben?" Luther asked Klaus.

Klaus looked to his right. "Great, yeah, he's in," he said.

"Okay, great. Luther grab Vanya," Five ordered.

Luther picked Vanya up carefully. "Wait. Should we be taking her? I mean, if she's the cause of the apocalypse isn't that like taking the bomb with us?" He asked.

"The apocalypse will always happen, and Vanya will always be the cause unless we take her with us and fix her," Five informed.

"Five, wait," I paused nervously. "What if this doesn't work?"

"Lexa," he placed his hand on my cheek gently. "No matter what happens.. I promise that we will always find each other. Do you know why?" He asked me.

I shook my head, and Five continued. "Because you, Alexa, are timeless," he smiled warmly and kissed me.

With his reassurance, I felt safe and wasn't afraid of what was going to happen.

The Hargreaves and I held hands, and waited for Five to enable his powers. He closed his eyes and focused.

Soon enough, the air began to crackle, and blue electricity formed a portal surrounding us.

"It's working!" Luther shouted.

"Hold on, it's gonna get messy!" Five warned.

I shut my eyes tight, and prayed that this worked. Memories danced on the back of my eyelids as I thought about all that had happened within the past week.

My life had completely turned upside down the night I met Five at Griddy's.

Before him, I didn't have a purpose. I was just a damaged kid on the run from a deadly organization.

Five gave me hope though. He made me feel like I was something more, something special. Five made me feel safe and cared for.

I cherished every moment we shared together. In the end, I knew I loved him, and no matter what happens I will never forget him.

Eventually, the blue whirlwinds swept us through time, and everything disappeared in the blink of an eye.
