17. OH, THE DRAMA!

Oh the Drama!

"it's hard to trust when all you have from the past is evidence why you shouldn't"

★・・・★・・・★

As the sun shone brightly through the curtains within Five's room, my eyes slowly opened. Morning had come quickly and a new day began.

My eyes drifted towards Five, who was beginning to wake up too. He slowly sat up on his bed.

"Good morning," I spoke softly.

His ocean eyes shifted to me as he grinned and replied back. "Morning."

"How're you feeling?" I asked.

Five nodded. "Definitely better than yesterday."

"Good." I smiled.

Five began to push himself off the bed, so I walked over to his side and helped him up.

I was surprised to see how quickly he had recovered, but then again, Grace was an intelligent robot with advanced medical knowledge. My powers did play a part in helping too. Also, I had recovered from my gunshot injury relatively fast, so it did make sense.

Five and I held hands as we walked down the steps and into the kitchen.

When we entered the room, Klaus was brewing coffee, while Luther sat at the table. He looked terrible. Luther was wearing a hoodie and he appeared to be extremely hungover. Klaus, on the other hand, was super energetic, which was odd because he was a mess the day before.

"Well, what a pleasant surprise! Good morning you two," Klaus exclaimed as he handed Luther a small mug. "Here we go, this'll fix ya."

We sat down at the end of the kitchen table. Five reached out for the mug before Luther could even take a sip of his coffee.

"Nice, okay!" Klaus poured another cup of coffee and handed it to Luther once again.

Five lifted the mug to his mouth and drank some of the dark liquid. "Jesus. Who do I gotta kill to get a decent cup of coffee?"

Five scrunched his nose and put down the cup immediately.

Luther grunted. "Can we get started please?"

"Started on what?" I asked curiously.

"Klaus has something to tell us," Luther replied.

Klaus walked in front of us and looked around. "Anyone seen any of the others? Diego? Alison?"

"They left the Academy last night to find more information on Harold Jenkins," I said as I remembered their conversation.

"All right, then, this is the closest thing we have to a quorum," Klaus tapped a metal spatula on the table loudly.

Luther covered his ears and tried to block out the obnoxious sound.

"Now, listening up! There's no easy way to say this, so I'm just gonna spit it out." Klaus paused as if he heard someone else speak in the room. "Yeah."

"Klaus," Luther addressed him in a hurried tone, trying to finish this conversation already.

"I conjured Dad last night," Klaus blurted proudly.

Everyone was quiet. Luther and Five shared a look of disbelief, while Klaus waited for a response.

My knowledge of Klaus's powers were limited. All I knew was that he could see or talk to the dead, but apparently he could conjure them too.

"You said you haven't been able to conjure anyone in years," Luther spoke with a shocked tone.

"Ah, yes, I know, but I'm sober." Klaus waved his hands in the air and bowed. "Ta-Da!"

I clapped for him.

"I got clean yesterday to talk to someone special, and then ended up having this conversation with dear old Daddy himself," Klaus explained.

Luther turned to Five and I. "Has anyone got some aspirin?"

"Top shelf, next to the crackers," Five replied quickly.

"Hey, hey, hey." Klaus waved him hands and tried to stop Luther from leaving. "This is serious, guys, alright?"

Luther sighed tiredly.

"This really happened, I swear." Klaus desperately tried to convince us, but I already believed him. I could usually tell when someone is lying and, right now, I don't think he is.

Five threw his hands in the air. "Okay, fine. I'll play. What did the old man have to say?"

"Well, he gave me the usual lecture about my appearance and failures in life. Yada, yada, yada. No surprise there," Klaus spoke of their harsh Father like it was the norm. I guess it was though. "Even the afterlife couldn't soften a hardass like Dad, right?"

Klaus chuckled to himself and continued his story. "But, he did mention something about his murder, or lack thereof, because.. he killed himself."

The mention his Reginald Hargreeves's death sparked an interest in Five and Luther, but when they both heard about his apparent suicide they shook their heads.

Luther became annoyed as he lectured Klaus. "I don't have time for your games, Klaus."

He stood up from his chair and was getting ready to leave the room. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

"I'm telling you the truth, Luther. I'm telling you the truth!" Klaus held his hand out to signal Luther to stop, but Luther wasn't having it.

"Why'd he do it, then?" Five questioned skeptically.

"He said it was the only way to get us all home again," Klaus recited his Father's words.

Luther scoffed. "No. Dad wouldn't just kill himself."

"Well, you said it yourself. He was depressed. Holed up in his office and room all day and night," Five stated.

"No. There weren't any signs." Luther refused to believe the possibility of their Father taking his own life. "Suicidal people exhibit certain tendencies, strange behaviors."

Klaus reasoned with Luther's previous statement. "Like sending someone up to the moon for no reason?"

"I swear to God, Klaus, if you're lying.." Luther trailed off angrily.

Klaus put his hands in the air. "I'm not. I'm not."

A new voice entered the conversation. "Master Klaus is correct," the monkey, Pogo, announced.

All of us turned around to face Pogo.

He sighed and continued. "Regretfully.. I helped Master Hargreeves enact his plan."

Luther's jaw dropped. "What?"

"So did Grace. It was a difficult choice for both of us," Pogo admitted shamefully. "More difficult than you could ever know."

Pogo walked further into the room and continued talking about Reginald Hargreeves and his suicide.

"Prior to your Father's death, Grace's programming was adjusted so that she was incapable of administering first aid on that.. fateful night." Pogo concluded dreadfully.

Five shook his head. "Sick bastard."

"So the security tape we saw?" Luther questioned.

"It was meant to further the murder mystery," Pogo replied. "Your Father hoped that being back here, solving it together, would reignite your desire to be a team again."

"Wow," I whispered to myself quietly, and completely shocked about what Pogo was saying.

Although I had never met Reginald Hargreeves, it's surprising to hear about all that he did just to get the Umbrella Academy back together again. He planned everything so carefully, and for what?

Five shared the same question as me. "And to what end?" He asked Pogo.

"To save the world, of course," Pogo said as if it was the obvious answer.

Klaus chuckled, "Alright!"

"First the moon mission and now this." Luther stared off into the distance and shook his head. "You watched me search for answers and said nothing."

Luther's harsh glare caused Pogo to look away regretfully. I felt bad for Pogo. He wasn't the one who deserved to be accused and ridiculed. If anything, their Dad was the one who was wrong.

"Anything else you want to share, Pogo? Any other damn secrets?" Luther growled, angry with this new information.

"Hey, calm down, Luther," Five addressed Luther's increasing anger.

"No, I won't calm down! We've been lied to by the one person in this family we all trusted," Luther spat.

"Pogo isn't the one you should be blaming though," I stated.

"Stay out of it, Alexa. You don't know anything about our family," Luther growled lowly.

"Back off her, Luther," Five warned.

"Try me," I objected before I started spitting out facts. "I know that your Father was an ass, who never gave a damn about you guys. I know that Grace and Pogo were the only people in your family that actually cared about everyone's well being. And I know that you're taking all your anger regarding the moon and your Dad out on the wrong people."

Luther narrowed his eyes at me and huffed. He knew I was right.

"It was your Father's dying wish, Master Luther," Pogo replied apologetically. "I- I had no choice."

The room took on a somber mood.

Luther slowly stepped closer to Pogo. "There's always a choice."

And with those final words, Spaceboy left the room.

Five ran his hands through his hair and sighed. "I gotta think."

I placed my hand in his and we teleported elsewhere.
