Chapter 6- Connected
--Alarik--
I sat up straight in bed, my heart was pounding in my chest and I felt like it was about to explode. It wasn't so much as what had woken me up, but who.
Allison.
There hadn't been much. Just a flash of her eyes and the feeling of excruciating pain and dizziness. I felt like I was about to puke from the experience, but that was okay.
The feeling was too real to have been in my head which means that I had to have connected with her. If I connected with her then that means she's alive.
The thought didn't slow my heart down any, in fact it only sped it up, made it feel like it was going to explode, because if I had indeed made contact with her, then that meant what I had felt was what she was feeling. Possibly even worse.
I had felt like my arms were cut open, and if that was the case, the dizziness must be from blood loss.
That brought up a new question, if she is alive, then why can't I make contact at any point?
I absentmindedly rubbed my forearms where the pain had been. It had only been a second, and I was glad that it had. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to feel that constantly.
The anger flared up again. What were they doing to her?
I tried to push back, to form some sort of connection again, but she was gone.
I felt a shot of panic go through me.
What if that hadn't been her just passing out? What if that had actually been her dying?
I refused to believe such a thing. I was still convinced that I would know if she died.
But what if it just felt like going to sleep?
I would feel the emptiness. I felt empty, but I still had hope and that was what I was clinging to.
I got up and dressed and went down to my dad's office.
I pulled up all the papers that tracked what he had done as far as tracking Allison. He had sent three groups of two out in different directions to scope out the towns in the nearby area. They had been warned specifically not to cross into any other territories.
I was almost one hundred percent certain humans wouldn't try to hide a werewolf on the land of another pack.
Unless it's their pack.
I had told my mother that I was going there in the morning. I was going to march straight up to that she-devil and tell her I knew exactly what she was doing. That if she didn't stop then she was going to pay.
I wouldn't kill her, oh no. I would wait until I got Allison back and then do to her what she'd had done to Allison ten times over. Let her worthless werewolf body heal just to have me do it again.
I felt my fists clench and unclench.
I went over to the wall where there was a map of the area. My father had put it up for territory lines and marking for the packs around us, but I was going to use it for the human areas.
I had glimpsed part of the room Allison had been in through the bit of her eyes I'd seen. Like a reflection of the man beside her and the walls and ceiling around him.
They had all been bare and white, but the texture had seemed weird.
I wasn't sure if looking at a map would do me much good, it wasn't like I could see where buildings were or anything.
Torture. If I were to torture, I wouldn't be doing it where others could see or hear. I'd make sure I was far away from anyone.
That would mean they're either farther out from town, or they're in a basement, or somewhere sturdy without windows.
A basement would be best, generally made with cement around, encasing the area. It would be extremely hard for anyone to hear screams through cement.
Bile rose in the back of my throat at the thoughts I was entertaining right now. They were torturing Allison. I had no time to waste, this was no longer just a kidnapping.
My fists clenched and unclenched.
I looked at the clock on the wall, the slow ticking starting to grate on my ears.
It was five thirty in the morning.
I'd waited until tomorrow.
I grabbed my jacket and threw it on, making my way out to the car. I turned the key and threw it into gear taking off down the roads.
The pack was always so quiet at this time. I used to go out running around now, make a lap through the houses before going into the woods to let my wolf run. I hadn't done that in a while.
When I get Allison back. We'll go together.
It was the first thought that hadn't sunk my mind into a depressive state. It had sounded sure. I was going to get her back.
My knuckles turned white as I gripped the steering wheel tightly, I thought I heard it creak under my hands like it was going to snap in half, but it never did.
I made my way to the Alpha's house and parked my car. I looked down at the time, it was six now.
I knew her father would be up, but I had my suspicions that she wouldn't be.
She probably would have just been slinking right in to bed around two in the morning.
I went up to the door and knocked anyway. I waited for a moment before the door opened and a smaller woman greeted me with an odd smile.
"Hello there, can I help you."
"I'm looking for Hazel, is she in."
"Uh well, yes but I'm not sure if she's awake. You could come back at another-"
"Can you go check for me? Tell her Alarik Trenton is here to see her." I gave her a tight smile and I saw the recognition dawn on her face. She knew the name Trenton.
Telling her my name probably wasn't the best decision, especially when I wasn't sure what I was going to do yet.
Just keep your anger in check. You're going to want to beat the living shit out of her, but just keep it cool-
"She said you can go on up," her mother said with a brighter smile now.
Of course she said that. She's thinking I've just been freed from my chains and that I've come to her. I forced a tight smile as I walked past the woman, her mother.
"Up the stairs and all the way back."
When I made my way up, I carefully looked at all the open doors that led to the back of the floor. All of them seemed empty and unused. Good, it's close to being alone.
Her father's probably around, and her mother-
I didn't care about them right now. I didn't fully trust that her father would be free from all of this. I wasn't sure how set he had been on this particular method for our packs, but I know he had liked the idea.
I opened the door to Hazel's room and there she was, laying her her nearly naked glory. Her fake blond hair splayed around like a golden halo, slightly rumpled from just waking up, but too neat to have been like that. Her lips all pouty but with a slight smile, her lids and lashes dark with touches of make up.
It was clear she'd used my time to come up here to make herself 'presentable.'
"Alarik," she purred at me. Her lustful eyes pinning me down.
I crossed the room and sat down next to her on the bed. One of her hands made it's way up, resting on my thigh, squeezing it firmly but gently.
"Hazel," I say to her, my voice deep.
"I'm glad you've come here." Her hand moves further up my thigh.
"So am I." I lean closer to her, my body nearly hovering over her's.
"Now where's Allison?" My voice is cold.
Hazel looks up at me with a question, the pout on her red lips.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean. Where is Allison?" This time the words come through gritted teeth.
"Shouldn't she be with you?"
I've had enough of her seductress ways and trying to play on male desires. I don't realize that I've done it, but I feel her throat beneath my hands. My thumbs squeezing down hard on her trechea.
"She's been taken and you know she has. Now where did you have her taken to. Tell me and I may let you live."
"You can't kill me in my own home, within my own pack," she spits out.
It's probably the only thing that stops me.
She's right. I can't kill her here, if I do it will start a war. Our packs are evenly matched and it would just end in bloodshed. If I'm to be the Alpha of my own pack then I need to act like it, and that means doing what's best for my people.
But getting Allison is what's best for my people.
Hazel's eyes look at me knowingly. She knows the battle going on inside, not like this would ever be a problem for her. She'd just kill whoever she needed to and then sleep her way around until everything was better.
"Now shouldn't you be able to connect with your mate?" She sneered the word, made it sound dirty.
"She's being blocked from me." I feel the anger rising up again. Whatever she's done, she's made this happen.
"So you mean you can't contact her at all?"
My stare is her only response and a smile spreads across her face.
"I was able to get in touch with her for a second this morning, but other than that she's blocked from me."
"And what did you get from her?" Hazel asked with fake curiosity.
I couldn't tell her what I'd seen and felt. The blood, the helplessness, the pain. What had I felt? Despair fading into nothingness.
"I just felt her. Then it went dark again."
"Well isn't that peculiar. You can't even feel your own mate. As far as you know she could be dead."
I see her eyes narrow at me with her words. This vial woman saying the very things my mind had been ever since her disappearance.
"She's not dead," I had to choke the words out. The words I desparately hoped were true, but couldn't actually say with certainty. Because there was always a chance.
Hazel's eyes showed just that. She knew what my mind had been telling me. She knew all the dark places that it had gone to.
"I know you're behind this," I say.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. Please believe me, Alarik. If you need anything, anything at all, some help tracking, extra eyes out, a shoulder to cry on, don't hesitate to ask. That's all you have to do and my family and I will be right there to help. What else is this pact for?"
I wanted to kill her. I really did.
She wasn't going to say anything and there was nothing linking her to the abduction-- yet.
I was going to find something though.
I turned on my heels and left without another word to anyone. This had been a wasted trip, and in that, it had been a wasted two hours. Two hours in which Allison had been bleeding out.
