Chapter 13- Light In The Dark
Hey all. Reason for this edit/repost is because I forgot something very important. I forgot to include Allison on the side.
So initially it was going to be Lily Collins as our Allison, but one of the people below found someone I like just a tad bit more... She seems more Allison like to me in terms of looks and that is.... *drumroll*
SHELLEY HENNIG!!! To the side we have the lovely Shelley Hennig as our dear Allison. Hope you enjoy. :)
P.S. I watched a few clips of her just now (because I'd never seen teen wolf) and her character seems a lot like Allison as well. Doesn't take crap. Doesn't trust easily. Yup. She's our girl. Haha Hope you enjoy!!!
--Allison--
I felt like the experiments these people were putting me on were starting to get closer together. I really had no concept of time, no idea how long I was out when they put me in a drug induced coma, it just felt like they were becoming more frequent.
I was just glad that they'd moved from inflicting pain through sharp objects and moved on to testing my abilities. Although that proved to be painful as well depending on what they had me doing. I was always glad when it didn't involve running or walking.
I would have been more excited about those, except apparently they knew I'd managed to make contact with someone. When they had me do something like that, they continuously administered the other drug, keeping the drug haze in place so I couldn't slip through again.
I wished I hadn't shown signs of making that connection. I knew it had to have been something I'd done, a facial expression, something. They wouldn't have known unless I had. So it was my fault.
I hadn't been able to help Alarik find me, not that I knew anything that could really help anyway. It appeared that today I was lifting weights. Doing anything to test my muscles and strength.
I'd pointed out that they would get better results if they gave me proper sleep and nutrition. Apparently they hadn't been a fan of that response. Freemont just glared and told me to start. I was currently bench pressing.
"Add more on." Freemont's voice carried from the other side of the room and I heard the clings as more weight was added onto the bar. I had no idea how much was on there. I'd stopped keeping track of it. I just lifted when they said. At least this wasn't painful.
I was apparently working through the drugs as well. I could feel the haze clearing and just as I did I'd receive another dose. Apparently they'd discovered whatever it was that was causing it to wear off faster.
"The Klarkes, Durins, and Jaegers are wanting to come watch the tests. Klarke has looked over the tests. She wants to watch it for herself." That was Cinthia this time. She'd started walking in instead of talking over the intercom. Apparently she'd gotten brave after our initial encounter. She knew I couldn't hurt her, though I wasn't sure if that's what she was afraid of. She'd seemed more put off by the blood than fear of me.
I grimaced slightly at her words. More people wanted to come in and watch me. I was getting sick and tired of playing lab rat.
Just then the door opened and I set the bar with the weights on the rest. Freemont wasn't paying any attention to me anymore. I watched him walk over and shake the hands of everyone who entered. One by one they filed in, five in total.
"Klarke, Durin, Jaeger, so nice that you could join us." Each nodded in turn. apparently there were two Klarkes, Two Jaegers and one Durin. Last names. I wondered what kind of people operated under last names only. The only first names I'd gotten were Sam and Cinthia, and I'd learned they were under the rest of them. I wondered if it was some sort of ranking system.
"Freemont. We'd like to see a little example of everything," one of the people, a Klarke, said.
"Everything? Right this way then."
Sam stepped forward and gave me another dose of the drug before standing me up and walking me out of the room. I had my strength and speed back by now, I knew I did. Judging by the weights I saw when I stood up it was almost my full strength. Sam knew that as well though and took precautions. He had the excess chain and pulled tightly, keeping my arms behind my back. there were cuffs around my ankles, chaining them together so I couldn't take large steps. If I tried getting away, well I would have issues getting anywhere quickly.
We kept going until he stopped us outside the room and I felt the dread immediately. I hadn't been in here in what felt like ages, but it also felt like just the other day. Sam pushed the door open and secured me to the empty chair. The bright light glaring off the walls.
Everyone filed in after us, standing along one of the walls while Freemont and Sam got everything ready.
I heard the clatter of tools on the steel tray and I couldn't help but pull on my restraints. It was pointless, as always. Silver. Damn silver.
I heard wheels rolling as Freemont made his way over to me on a chair, dragging the tray behind with him.
A bright light turned on over me and I heard slight shuffling as the people came closer. I knew it would be pointless to talk. There was nothing I could say to make this stop. I just had to sit here and take it.
I felt the cold metal on my skin and I bit my lip hard as Freemont started to make the deep cut in my arm while talking to the others.
"It has remarkable healing as long as the wound isn't made with silver. Silver heals about as slowly as we do normally."
I bit back the scream that wanted to come out from the white hot pain in my arm. I then felt the damp cloth as Freemont wiped the blood away. More swelled up, pouring from the wound and I was starting to feel light headed again.
After a moment I felt the healing kick in and I could feel the tissue knitting back together in my arm. It was going slow, at least it seemed slow to me, but in moments the bleeding had stopped. Freemont wiped the blood away again showing that it wasn't flowing anymore.
I heard the murmurs from the people standing around and their interest made me feel sick. None of them cared that they were slicing a person open.
Freemont then moved down to my leg, he pressed something and I could feel my legs rising up. I was lying on my back and couldn't look to see what they were doing, but I soon felt it.
"It's quite remarkable. It even healed perfectly with a bullet still lodged in its leg." He poked at the lump in my leg and I cringed as I felt it. Everything that they could see had healed perfectly. They didn't know what it was still like in there, and it was far from healed. Every movement shifted the bullet and damaged the tissues and muscles in there all over again.
I wanted to scream at him that I wasn't an 'it'. Whenever he talked to anyone about me, that's what he said. It. Like I wasn't a real person. He didn't want me to be, that was their whole problem. They hated anything that made me like them.
"Here put these on," Freemont said. I wished I could see what he was telling them to put on, but I couldn't.
More clanking and then a loud noise, followed by the pain. Shot again in the leg.
"The ear drums heal almost instantly, loud noises only impair it for a moment."
The metal tweezers pulling the hunk of metal out of my leg. That time I did groan. I couldn't hold back anymore.
"Last time it went in right here, there's not even a mark." I felt his fingers on my skin, close to the new area and I winced as I felt the pain flare up.
I heard him move over to my other side and finally saw him appear again as he touched my other arm.
"Over here I used silver. You can see where the deep gash was," he ran his finger along the line. "And where the shallow one was. It was quite odd because as I'd said, it healed at regular speed. I'd had to stitch the deep cut up, but the only mark is from the initial wound. Only silver leaves a mark."
"This is quite intriguing indeed. Is there a chance we could use this? Could we figure out a way to get these abilities? Think of the things we could do with fast healing, think of the things we could cure."
"I can help. Want a bite?" I finally spoke up, my eyes locked on one man. I think he'd been called Jaeger.
His eyes hardened as he stared at me. I could see exactly what he thought, disgust. I knew I should have just kept quiet. It would have been smart of me to do. Me and my big mouth.
"We're done with her for now. Sam, take her back."
Sam stepped forward and started unlocking the restraints to the chair and stood me up.
"I'll take her," a woman said stepping forward. "I need to go that way for something else anyway."
The Jaeger man looked at her oddly, like he wasn't sure why she would want to be close to something like me.
"I'll be fine. It's not like she can do anything."
"Administer the sedative when you get her in. It's in the desk right outside."
Bolder each and every time. They were getting comfortable, and that worried me. The more comfortable they got, the more they said around me, the less likely I thought it was that I would get out.
The woman just nodded and jerked me forward and out of the room. I limped after her, daring a look down at my leg.
I winced with every step and now most of my weight was on the leg that still had the bullet in it from last time. I don't think they were worried about removing it. Why would they be worried? It was just one more thing to ensure that I would have issues getting away. In their minds they most likely thought the more permanent damage they could inflict, the better.
We were a ways down before the woman slowed down, taking my pace instead of hers. I grew suspicious of the gesture. She couldn't possibly be making this easy for me, that didn't seem to be the style of these people.
"I'm sorry for what they did in there," the woman said quietly without looking at me.
I was silent while we kept walking. Even with my wolf hearing I wasn't sure I'd heard her right. If she was one of them then why would she say anything like that?
"I- I'm not comfortable with people like you, but that doesn't mean I want to watch you suffer either."
I just let out a short, harsh laugh.
"Listen, I don't think the same way they all do. I believe there's more to you than what we know, and I don't mean scientifically. I mean just in general. They look at you like you're evil. Me, I know that you were born like this. You were born like this right?"
I just nodded. "Lucky me, right?"
The woman smiled sadly. "I just think what it could have been like if I'd been born like you. You didn't ask to be a werewolf, it just happened. There are evil creatures out there. They take the form of werewolves, vampires, and many other types of paranormal creatures. I just think that the bad ones have blinded us to the rest out there. The ones that are just trying to live their lives."
"So you just go around grabbing up random creatures that you think are evil?"
"Not normally. Not many are brought back like you were. I've gotten word that you were pointed out. Someone tipped Freemont off to you. I don't know who it was or what they said, but it wasn't random."
"I figured as much. Walking into a pack of werewolves and I'm the only one picked up. Just after the blow up of a botched deal."
"Pack? Deal? What are you talking about."
I'd just told her they had been in my pack. I really hoped she wouldn't take that information back to the people. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if others got taken because of it. Then again, they probably already knew they were in the middle of a pack of werewolves. They didn't seem the type to go into any situation blind.
"I'm mates to an Alpha. Soon to be Alpha to be exact. There had been an arrangement for him to be married off to another person, an Alpha's daughter. Long story short, we had to fight like hell to be together. Once we finally were, this happened. I have no idea how long it's been, where I'm at, or if my mate even has any information to come get me. They've been using some drug on me that actually works and is blocking me from my wolf."
I wasn't sure why I was telling her all of this. She probably already knew it all. She was probably just getting her kicks out of watching me take trust in her. I could almost hear her laughter that she must be holding back.
"Mates? As in a soul mate?"
I nodded, back to my silent self. I didn't need to give her any more material.
"I had no idea that such a thing existed for werewolves."
"Lots of things exist for us," I snapped. "Soul mates, love, sadness, hope, pain." I spit out the last word and bit my tongue.
I could feel the frown coming off her now. She was really acting well, basically had me fooled.
We finally ended up in front of the door I knew all too well. The one I'd been hid behind for more days than I knew.
The woman secured the chains back up and then stepped out, coming back with a needled syringe in hand. I knew she was just like the rest of them. She crouched down in front of me, her face hidden in the shadow of the room, the only light reflecting off the back of her brown hair.
I'm going to give you part of this. You need to be passed out when they check on you otherwise they will know something's up. There's still a chance that they will. I'm risking myself and my family right now just doing this. But I want you to have your chance. You're in California."
The woman gave me general information that would help me if there was a way for me to escape. She gave me the address, the type of people that were around, the number of people.
"You're going to wake up shortly. The smaller dose should work through your system fast. When you do wake up, the haze should clear after that. Keep quiet, pretend your asleep, don't do anything to attract attention. You should be able to make contact in your-- way, about thirty-five minutes after waking up."
I couldn't believe the words she was saying. She was trying to help me get out of here.
"Why are you helping me?" I asked. The disbelief clear in my voice.
"Because no one deserves to be kept like this. Now give me your neck."
I tipped my head to the side and felt the needle go in. I had to trust that she hadn't been lying to me, that she was indeed going to give me the smaller dose. I guess I would find out when I woke up. If I was met with Sam's dark face, I would know she lied to me.
The woman's sad smile was the last thing I saw as the haze started to take me under.
****************
So... We may have a helper in our midst. Giving Allison the location, information, and a smaller dose so she can hopefully wake up soon and get in contact. We will have to see what happens then.
