Chapter 12 (English)
Everyone opened their letter and read it through. I watched how they reacted. Phil didn't seem to be responding much, so the letter probably wasn't very dramatic. Cliff laughed.
"What?" I asked.
"It's just...I really wrote that." I chuckled. Angus was crying. Malcolm took him in his arms and gently stroked Angus' locks.
"What's wrong?" Malcolm asked gently.
"I'm going to be such an idiot." Angus cried.
"What did you write in the letter?" I asked. Angus handed me the stationery, then hid his face on Malcolm's shoulder. I unfolded the paper and began to read:
Dear Angus from the past,
I have the unique chance to make amends for my mistakes. Better said, you. So read everything through carefully and follow the instructions. As you already know, Malcolm will have dementia. It's awful. I tell you Malcolm will sit next to you and be happy to have you with him. He will notice that you are sad, but he doesn't know why. He's...he's just going to be like a three year old again. I berated him and told him that he was to blame for his illness. Of course he isn't. He didn't choose that. So please don't tell him that. Besides, he won't have long. Be with him every second you can be with him. You will regret it terribly if you don't. Take care of Linda a little. She will be a terrible wreck. I also want you to be nice to Ellen. When I look back on time, I realize that I wasn't there for her enough. You have to be there for her. Please. Do what I tell you! That's damn important! Once again, you cannot mend your mistakes! Help Brian and the boys a little and don't be so childish. Sure, being childish is fun. But if you are not...then maybe you will see how other people are doing. I hope you take my advice. It is well meant. A little tip on the side: tell Malcolm that you love him. Even if his dementia is advanced and he doesn't know who you are. Just do it. It gets a lot better when you do. I didn't and I regret every second. I don't want you to do it too. Help Linda a little with Malcolm. He won't be able to do anything on his own anymore. Thanks for reading this. Take care.
Yours, Angus from the future
I looked up. Angus cried into Malcolm's shoulder. Malcolm held him to himself and stroked his back.
"Sh. Everything's fine, Ang. What's wrong? Mh?"
"The letter is just very emotional." I said, wiping my eyes. Angus went to Ellen and kissed her hard.
"I love you, honey." He breathed. I smiled. It looked like he was going to obey the letter. Then he went to Malcolm and gave him a tight hug. "I love you. You're the best big brother ever." Malcolm looked a little taken aback because Angus never told him that. But then he put his arms around Angus and held him to himself.
"I love you too, Angus." I cooed, as did Cliff. We grinned at each other.
"This is for you, Malcolm." I said, pulling the small box that Linda had given me from my pocket.
"What is that?" Malcolm asked puzzled.
"Linda gave me that from the future. She asked me to give it to you." Malcolm nodded a little. I turned to Brian and saw that he was crying too. I went up to him. He kissed me hard. God. I loved him so much. I stroked his hair, his slate cap fell to the floor, but we didn't care. He put his arms around me and held me gently so as not to press on my stomach. I happily hummed into the kiss. When we parted, I smiled at him. He stroked my blonde hair.
"I love you, Arlene."
"I love you too, Brian." I whispered and kissed him gently again. His thumb caressed my baby bump.
"How about you two go up to your floor and be a little alone there?" Asked Malcolm. I looked at him. He smiled encouragingly. I went up to him and kissed his cheek. Malcolm went bright red and rigid. We laughed.
"Thank you. That's a great idea." I took Brian by the hand and we went up the stairs to our room together. I really missed it here. Brian helped me lie down on the bed. I was so pregnant now that it was pretty hard.
"Are you cold, darling?" Asked Brian. It was already winter here and snowed heavily. Somehow strange. In the future it was summer and here it was winter.
"A little." I muttered. Brian nodded and turned the heat up a little before laying down next to me. "What was in your letter?" I asked. He smiled and played with my blonde hair.
"You know, honey...I got advice. And I think I'll obey it." I smiled. "Can you...can you take off your shirt?" He asked carefully and tugged at it.
"Why?" I giggled.
"Well...I haven't seen your baby bump get bigger every day and..." I nodded quickly and took off my shirt. He stared at my huge belly with big eyes. I smiled and carefully took his hand.
"Promise me you won't cry, honey." I grinned.
"Why should I cry?" He asked puzzled. I put his hand on my stomach and Mitchell kicked excitedly. His eyes shot open and stared at his hand. A gentle smile played on his lips. Oh my god he's so wonderful. Tears ran down his cheeks. I wiped them away with a giggle. He beamed happily at me. "Hello Mitchell." He whispered, stroking my stomach. It felt so good to be with my young husband again, the way it should be. I was finally home again. "I love you my little son." He sniffed, smiling. Then he looked up at me. "He's not even born and I would do anything for him." I giggled and pulled him into a firm kiss. He leaned over me and I stroked his back. "God. I've missed you so much, wife." He whimpered.
"I missed you too, husband." I chuckled.
"That's so weird." He muttered.
"What's weird?" I stroked his curls and tried to tuck them behind his ear.
"The idea that you were lying in bed next to an old man and that you spent this long time with that old guy." I laughed.
"Yeah, it was weird that you were old. But I loved you anyway. Because you were still the same man. The man I fell in love with." He smiled at me. "You are beautiful, darling."
"No. You're much more beautiful." He grinned.
"Me? I'm fat." I mumbled and rubbed my fat belly roughly.
"Stop it, darling. You're not fat." He lifted my chin and kissed me gently. "You 're not fat. You're pregnant. You have a second person in yourself. Did you think you would have a flat stomach? Kind of illogical, isn't it, honey?" I giggled. "Do you see? Besides, you are beautiful. You will always look wonderful. No matter if you are fat, thin, old or young. You will always be wonderful. I love you more than anything and you are a beautiful woman. And our baby will grow into a beautiful boy." I smiled with tears in my eyes. "Why are you crying, darling?" He asked worriedly and brushed the tears from my cheeks.
"Thank you, Brimi. That really meant a lot to me." I breathed. He smiled and kissed me hard.
"I love you." Then he kissed my stomach hard. "And I love you Mitchell McKinnon Johnson." After a while he grinned, "I really hope you don't become like your two namesakes." I laughed. "Seriously, why is his name after Mal and Ang?"
"I like the names." I pouted.
"Still better than Belford." He muttered.
"What did you say?" I teased.
"I said: thank god our son's name is not Ronald Belford." We laughed.
"That was the substitute name."
"Oh my god, no!" Brian shrieked. We laughed and kissed hard. I was finally home again.
