WILL THE WISE
EL AND SAM had finally made it home, Sam nearly tripping over the wire because of how physically drained she felt. She knew that if she laid in her bed now, she'd be fast asleep. But that didn't seem to be the case. When Sam looked up, Hopper was there on the porch, smoking a cigar, waiting for them. Sam sighed, irritatingly. She knew now that she wouldn't be sleeping soundly tonight.
El and Sam took a deep breath, before continuing the way back to the door. Sam and el hurriedly passed hopper, rushing to their rooms as Sam quickly took off her jacket. It wasn't even a second before hopper came storming in, slamming the door behind him as he rushed over to the girls room.
"Friends don't lie. Isn't that your bullshit saying?" Hopper started, taking off his hat. The girls ignored him as they continued to their room, el tried closing the door but hopper just slammed it back open. "Hey, Hey! Hey! Don't walk away from me!" Hopper yelled, as he did so. Both Sam and el turned to his angry demeanor.
"Where'd you two go on your guys little field trip, huh?" Hopper asked, calmer now. Sam threw her jacket on her bed, standing aside el as she kept eye contact with hopper. "Where?" He demanded, obviously holding the authority. "Did you guys go see mike? Lucas?" Hopper asked, since the girls continued ignoring him.
"He didn't see me." El said, looking away, "Neither did Lucas." Sam answered through gritted teeth. "Yeah, well, that mother and her daughter did and they called the cops." Hopper told them, moving over to el's bed frame, "Now, did anyone else see you two?" He asked again, seeming to be seething with anger.
"Anyone at all? Come on, I need you guys to think!" Hopper exclaimed to their silence. "Nobody saw us!" El exclaimed back at him through gritted teeth, seeming just as angry now. Hopper walked back over to the dresser, leaning on it now. "You two put us in danger. You guys realize that, right?" He asked, back to his calm demeanor. But he was far from it.
"You promised we'd go! And we never leave! Nothing ever happens!" El yelled at him, Sam starting to get just as angry. "Yeah! Nothing happens and you two stay safe!" Hopper yells, slamming his hand down on the dresser. "Liar!" Sam yelled, her eyes turning black-ish as her pupils dilated. "I'm not a liar! I protect and I feed and I teach! And all I ask of you two is that you follow three simple rules. Three rules. And you know what?" Hopper leaned down, face to face with Sam and el.
"Neither of you can even do that!" He yelled, his face red. Sam stepped back abruptly, her anger slowly going down as she felt her body get more tired. Hopper walked out, shaking his head, Sam walking to the brim frame as el slammed her hands down on the dresser. "Your both grounded!" He said, "You guys know what that mean?" He asked, heading towards the kitchen. "It means no eggos or pancakes," Hopper said, going in the fridge and taking out both boxes of waffles and pancakes.
"And no tv for a week." Hopper added, causing Sam to angrily clench her fists. Hopper stormed over to the tv that was on, and tried to pick it up but it didn't budge. Hopper glanced behind him to see that el had her head tilted down, focusing on the tv from next to Sam. Hopper tried again but it didn't budge, he turned away and stared at them. "Alright, knock it off. Let go." Hopper told them, breathing heavily.
El shook her head, blood trailing down her nose. He tried again, but it still didn't budge. "Okay. Two weeks." He told them, then tried again but still nothing. "Let go!" He yelled at el, turning back to them. El shook her head. "A month!" He raised his voice. "No!" El said with confidence. "Well, congratulations. You just graduated from no tv for a month to no tv at all!" Hopper told them as he unplugged the tv, making the screen go black.
"Stop it!" Sam yelled, it wasn't fair. That was the only way to see Lucas, they needed that tv. The two girls raced towards the television as hopper walked away from it. "No! No. No!" El begged, trying to fix the tv as Sam tried to see what cord was unplugged or snatched out. "You two have got to understand that there are consequences to your actions." Hopper told them blankly.
Sam felt her anger rise again, her eyes turning green, not black, around her pupils. "You are like papa!" Sam snapped as she whipped around to face him. "Really? I'm like that psychotic son of a bitch?" Hopper asked, his hands going through his hair as El turned around to. "Wow! All right, you guys wanna go back in the lab? One phone call. I can make that happen." Hopper threatened.
Sams eyebrows rose in anger, "I hate you!" El yelled at him, Sam nodding. "Yeah! I second that! I hate you!" Sam yelled, her eyes stone cold as her green eyes pierced through hoppers. "Yeah, well, I'm not so crazy about either of you. You know why? Cause your both brats." Hopper told them from across the room. "You two know what that word mean? How about that be your word for the day, huh? Brat." He said, then reached for a dictionary."Why don't we look it up? B-R-A-T. Brat." Hopper tossed the dictionary at them but el held out her hand, causing the book to float in mid air.
Sam rose her hand, the knives in the kitchen following as they raced towards the book, stabbing the book in the center and in the end, seven knives were stabbed in a circle in the middle of the dictionary. The sharp part facing hopper, El sent it towards hopper. He dodged it, then frantically looked back up at the girls with a shocked expression on his face, "Hey! What the hell is wrong with you two?" He yelled.
El used her hands to send the couch into hoppers leg, making him kneel over, in pain slightly. "Hey!" Hopper grunted. "Hey!" He stared back up at them. El stormed away, Sam making the bookcase fall on the ground. "Hey! Hey!" Hopper yelled after them. Once they reached the room, with a swift move of els hand, the door slammed shut, not opening when he banged on it. "Open this door!" He demanded.
"Open the damn door!" He shouted, still banging on it. Sam and el's slide down the wall beside their dresser. Tears fell down Sams face as she did so, hoppers words becoming blurred together as she and el had enough. "You wanna go out in the world? You two better grow up! Grow the hell up!" He yelled and that was it. The two girls screamed and every window outside with hopper shattered into pieces as they broke, glass flying everywhere.
Sam leaned her head on the wall as her and el embraced each other in a hug, sobbing into each other's arms.

The next morning, Hopper was hammering wood onto the windows. El was spying on him, but once she slammed the door Sam knew she had been caught. Sam watched as el sat next to her on her bed, staring at the door. Sam heard hoppers footsteps approaching the door. "Hey, kids." Hopper started. The two girls glanced at each other before standing up slowly and quietly walking towards the door.
"Listen, um..about last, I, uh.." hopper trailed off, Sam turned away from the door, waiting. "I want this place cleaned up by the time I get back and then maybe I'll consider fixing the TV. You two hear me?" Hoppers entire demeanor changed, considering he at first held a sense of sincerity in his tone, but now it had toughened.
Sam scoffed, turning back to the door in a angry manner. With her eyes turning a lime green, she kicked the door. There was a pause, before the front door opened and closed, signaling that hopper had left. Sam huffed, glancing at el who was visibly annoyed.
[][][hello peeps!]
El was trying to fix the television while Sam placed two pieces of eggos in the toaster. She hadn't dug in the trash, no, she had hid two emergency waffles behind the milk. She knew they rarely ate cereal so it would make sense for her to do that. El picked up the same cord Sam had last night and examined it, then throwing it back down.
Sam walked towards the book with knives in it, she picked it up, then used her mind to remove all of the knives as she shook the glass off the book. She blew on it, dust flying off as el lifted the bookcase with her mind. El shoved, the board games and books in the bookcase. Then started to pick up anything and put it on the shelf, Sam smirking at that. "Lazy." She snorted, but frowned once a book was thrown at her head.
El had used her hands, Sam turned around, glaring daggers at the girl but all el did was shrug innocently as Sam rubbed the back of her head. El started to sweep as Sam took the eggos out of the toaster, "El, breakfast is ready." Sam announced, setting the plate down. Sam put her in a napkin, considering she did the dishes. "I'm not hungry." El replied, continuing to sweep.
Sam frowned, she watched as el stop sweeping momentarily to look at something. "But..but.." Sam whispered, before glancing back at the food, "Seriously?" She exclaimed, upset that she was going to waist a whole waffle because El wasn't hungry. She went to complain more but El had sent the chair back a little.
El dropped the broom, kneeling down towards the ground. Sam watched uninterested, wanting to complain more when she was paying attention. El opened something, the door falling open. Sams eyes widen, as she walked closer. Her and el standing over the hole in the floor board.
Eventually el had gotten a flashlight while Sam didn't want one. El and Sam stuck their heads in the small hole, el flashing the light over boxes. Sam couldn't see the other words on the boxes but she saw the words, HAWKINS LAB, on the box el flashed light to. which immediately perked her interest. El went and retrieved the box, with no help from Sam, which Sam thought was her own fault. She needed to know what it felt like to do go out of your way for something or someone and get no help or appreciation. And yes—Sam held grudges.
El grunted as she hoisted herself from the small space, Sam removed the top and immediately started digging. She pulled out a folder, el doing the same. Sam opened it, and started skimming through the only newspaper in there.

It was later on, did Sam realize how much of a mess they had made. El had settled on the couch but Sam had just stayed by el's feet. Sam had pulled out a white folder, labeled, Coles, Henrietta. Sam furrowed her eyebrows, and opened the folder, ignoring el's words. It was a slim folder, only holding a few papers in it. The new paper held in bolder words, Women overdoses during child birth .
"Overdoses?" Sam question to herself, reading the first paragraph.
Henrietta Coles overdoes while she gives birth to her only child, Rosetta Coles. Doctors claim she arrived with drugs in her system, but others disagree because of the demands she yelled before dying, "Do not take my baby!" Or, "Don't let him take her away!" The people who claimed to have heard more, ended up dying in a car crash the next day, on the way to the police station.
There was a picture, of a women with a stores uniform on as she placed her hand on her face to block the cameras. Sam slide her thumb over the photo, feeling a sense of sadness overwhelming her. When Sam went to show el the unfortunate events that happened to the women, el had whispered, "Jane."
"What?" She asked, el glanced at her before taking out a clipped on picture. She unfolded it, revealing a women, Brenner and- "That's her! Hen-rie-Et-ta!" Sam butchered. "Who?" El asked, "Henry for short," Sam nodded, realizing that the bigger name wasn't for her. "She lost her child. Now she's with this lady," Sam said and then pointed to terry.
Sam froze when she realized who the man was, "Papa." El whispered. Sam felt her body get goosebumps. El placed her finger between the two mothers. El looked up, to the broken television then to a radio. We got up and retrieved the radio, putting it down as she reached the static. "Come." El demanded, holding out her hand for Sam to take. Sam grabbed it as she kneeled down with el, closing her eyes.
El put on the blindfold, with the photo lying down on her lap as she tied the knot. Sam had been pulled into the void, after a while, hearing nothing but the water splashing against her feet as she turned. El was no where to be seen, panicking, Sam looked around frantically but stopped once she realized that el probably did it on purpose.
Sam walked, and walked, finding nothing out of the ordinary until she saw a grave stone. She hesitated but walked closer towards it. She kneeled down when she was in front of the grave stone.
HENRIETTA COLES
A Mother
A Friend
A Wife
1942-1971
Sam covered her mouth, grasping her lips as she stared at the grave stone. Suddenly a loud splash, Sam whisked around to see a young lady, standing there. Sam turned back to the grave to see it was gone, she turned back to the lady who still stood there.
She got up and walked towards the lady. The women looked to be in her late 20's. Sam touched the lady's bracelet that held a name, Celeste. Sam furrowed her eyebrows, but then the young women grabbed Sams hand, staring directly in her eyes, freaking Sam out. Sam tried to get out of the women's hold but suddenly her eyes weren't hers anymore.
A women, the same women, Henry was kicking and fidgeting as pills were shoved in her mouth with a glass of water following after. She screamed for help but it was no use, she had her legs prompted up like she had already given birth or was about to. "My baby!" She screamed through the multiply hands over her mouth, "Rose!"
Then a flash of the rainbow room showed, Henry was with the same women named terry. Henry had a taser in her back pocket, disguised as a wallet. They entered the lab, then terry pulled her gun out and suddenly it flashed to four girls in the rainbow room. "Rosie..." Henry cooed, crawling to her daughter who held a smile.
One had blonde hair, one with black—who seemed to be a bit older—and the other with brown. The one with brown, and black were the ones Henry was crawling to.
Then it showed terry and Henry being pulled apart, screaming at the men who were pulling them away from each other.
"Stop!" Sam screamed to the top of her lungs, she yanked away from the women and suddenly she was back in the real world. She sobbed loudly, tears were steaming down her face, she was shocked that she hadn't noticed them until now. El was crying next to her, Sam embraced her, letting el let out her muffled sobs into Sams shoulder as Sam quietly let out a few sniffles. "Mama!" El whispered, continuing to sob.
