Chapter 1: Never Enough Time

(926 words

Time

A construct designed by the government to give its citizens a meaning. By giving seconds, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, millennia (thousand years), Megaannuum (Million years), gigaannum (billion years), and a  teraannum (trillion years). These are all used to document time.

It is a construct that allows us to have a deeper understanding of why the Earth rotates on an axis around the sun. It allows us to document the seasons and the average weather fluctuations for certain areas on the planet.

But, aside from this. It can go by faster or slower when yet it doesn't. You just focus on something else before you realize what time it is. It can be a friend or it could be cruel.

To me, it is a cruel construct that has made my life harder.

Your POV

I sighed lightly as I heard my alarm wake me up in the morning. I sat up and stood to get my blood to move and my brain to come out of sleep mode. I walked to my door and opened it after getting my clothes and going to the bathroom for my usual quick shower.

"If you're early you're on time if you're on time you're late." I mumbled as I got out checking my watch as I was running before schedule. My shower was quicker than I thought.

I got dressed quickly and went downstairs for coffee and my bag before heading to the DWMA. Most people think that I have some mental illness that makes it where being late bothers me quite a bit. When really, the time has always been the antagonist in my life. I never noticed it until I was around the age of 14. I'm almost 17 now and I've done everything I can in my power to make sure that Father Time doesn't get a hold of my life again.

I got to the DWMA almost a half an hour before the bell would ring for school to start so I went to my Crescent Moon class and sat at my desk and looked at the clock and smiled lightly.  My professor Dr. Stein walked in and I watched him sit down.

"Good morning, Miss (l/n)."

I stood and walked down to his desk quietly. "Good morning, Professor Stein."

He looked up at me for a moment as I stopped at his desk. "You're punctual as always."

"I have to be in a world such as this, do you need help grading papers?"

He leaned back for a moment and twirled his blood red pen like he usually does with a scalpel.

"Did you finish reading the next chapter?"

I nodded once.

"Homework in the tray?"

I nodded once more.

He glanced at the analog clock above the door.

"You may help me grade papers."

I smiled lightly.

"Remember to-"

"Leave my paper on your desk? Already ahead of you."

He shook his head lightly as he chuckled.

"I never understand how you are able to be so punctual. You are here before I am and I get here fairly early."

I looked at him with a small smile.

"Well, If I was late for a future career then I would most likely be fired because that is intolerable, so being early to school like this is better because it gives me time to do what I need, and to help my Professor of course, because his job can be rather stressful at times especially with Asura being resurrected."

He nodded as he understood.

"I think you may be more of a star student than Maka or Ox."

I looked down lightly as I was blushing.

"Miss Albarn and Mister Ford (I believe that's his last name lol) are also Meisters with weapons, and we both know that I am a weaponless one."

He stood and walked over to me.

"Do you ever wonder if people are intimidated by you?"

"I don't see why they would be, I'm not special."

He grabbed my shoulders firmly yet gently.

"(y/n), you are in the top grades along with Maka and Ox. When we have the written exam I can be confident that you'll be in the top three."

I blushed a little harder and looked away from him.

"School is going to start soon and we have papers to grade still. Do you have your answer key so I can borrow it."

He nodded and gave it to me and I went to the desk next to me and started grading the papers. The bell rang just as I put them on his desk. He looked at me for a moment as the bell rang and I moved back to my desk as the rest of the students came in.

~After Class~

I stood slowly and got my stuff together before I got to the base of the stairs and heard my Professor.

"Do you have a moment?"

I stopped and looked at him for a second.

"I was discussing your weaponless problem with Lord Death the other morning, and we decided to have you meet a weapon. He is a scythe and his name is Hisoka Kiyoshi. "

I nodded and looked at the floor.

"When you get here tomorrow I would like to meet you in the Death Room so you can meet him. You will be having a call in Death's mirror."

I nodded and walked out as the school day had been over for the day and I went and sat on the steps for a moment.
