| Chapter 6 |

Nothing I have ever experienced led up to as painful as when I woke up that next afternoon. A nurse came in around then and told me I had lost a lot of blood but she wasn't worried because she knew it wouldn't be fatal. They put me on meds. Strong ones, and I could tell. The pain was there but I felt really woozy. They probably just didn't want me waking up. I looked over at my right hand and there was a lot of stitches. I glanced at my left foot and there was I cast, so around dinner time I asked why. She told me that when I fell I broke my ankle because it was at a weird angle when I collapsed. Then I asked her how she knew that. How did she know what weird angle I was at? She barked at me, telling me I was asking to many questions and that she wanted me sleeping. So I did. Throughout the night I was tossing and turning in the uncomfortable hospital bed. It didn't feel like a hospital. It felt more like what an asylum would feel like. I was in pain and it was difficult to sleep. Why didn't they put me on a medication that would help the pain go away? I ended up sleeping though. I wanted sleep, because all that I had been through lately was stressful and terrifying. Sleep was my escape from the world.
That  next morning when the nurse brought me breakfast she had tears in her eyes, she was limping and I was of course curious.
"Why are you limping? And why are you crying?" I asked. I was worried to ask because she told me not to yesterday.
"I am not. I'm tired and so are you...You must be seeing things." She replied as the shiny metal tray she was carrying clanked on the rack she set it on.
"But I can hear you sniffing. Am I hearing things too? Why can't you answer my questions, Jen?" I pointed at her name tag with my left hand as I snapped. I pointed with hand that wasn't all sliced up, not my dominant hand. She stoped and turned her head toward me as she was about to leave.
"I can't answer you..." She turned back and headed toward the sink, a sink with needles and injections. Her back was toward me, I couldn't see what she was doing but I heard no water running.
My heart began to race and my back began to sweat. What is she doing? I heard no water, just  some plastic bottles hitting against each other as she searched for one. I braced myself to run. To leave and try to get out of that door.
"I told you not to ask questions last night, Myla." She  was scaring me as she talked. Her hand reached for a long needle that some-what shinned from our light.
"What's the needle for...?" I tried to buy time as I reached for a scalpel on the tray she set down, putting it behind my back.
"I said no questions!" She turned back around and the needle was above her head and pointed downward in a way a person would position before they stabbed someone. A position they would use before injecting someone with a needle that wasn't supposed to be used. She came down. Her hand gripping the needle as it swung. I leapt to the other side of the bed and stabbed her, slicing the scalpel down her back before she could stand. I left it in the bottom of her back and ran the best I could out the door. The cast they put on me of course made it difficult to run. I knew I wouldn't be able to run for ever so I needed to find somewhere where I could hide. Even better If I could escape in time to not have to find somewhere to hide at all. It wouldn't be easy. I heard her screaming in pain and I didn't feel the slightest bit of remorse. The only thing I had to do now is find a way out of here.
