Chapter 3: Meeting the Family

I opened the door and found them tricking out the bikes just as Dad said. My eyes wandered to Mom and I smiled softly. She looked like she was glowing. She was healthy and smiling as she helped Dad with what looked to be her bike. Well, I mean, in 28 years, it'd be mine.

"Oh, hey, Marie! Let me introduce you to my friends!" Dad smiled, waving us over.

He pointed to Uncle Ferb. Thomas smiled at him. "This is my brother, Ferb. He doesn't talk much. He's more of the silent action type."

Uncle Ferb nodded to us and then went back to his blowtorch which I knew was his favorite tool.

Dad pointed to Uncle Buford and Uncle Baljeet. They weren't really our Uncle's but they were so close to our family that they were honorary Uncles.

"That's-"
"Sup, losers! Buford Van Stomm is my name and bullying nerds is my game!" Uncle Buford said and proceeded to punching Uncle Baljeet.
"Ow!" Uncle Baljeet sighed. "By nerds, he means me. My name is Baljeet Tjinder and uh...I'm-I'm a math whiz so..."
Uncle Buford shook his head. "Smooth, Baljeet."
"Shut up, Buford..." Uncle Baljeet muttered.

"Ok....and this is my best friend, Isabella Garcia-Shapiro! She's super amazing and is the leader of her own Fireside Girl troop!" Dad said, smiling cheekily, and hugging Mom.
Mom blushed. "T-Thanks, Phineas. Um, would you excuse me?"

Dad let go of her. She turned around so that her back was towards everyone. I smiled. I knew what she was doing. Mom told me when she was younger that she often had to calm herself down when she got too excited whenever Dad paid attention to her in a special way.

She started shaking and then I saw her hand hit her face. Then she turned back to us with a big smile.

"So watcha doing?" She asked.

I beamed and I saw Dad do the same.

"Oh, Grand....I mean, Uncle Lawrence told us to give these to you." Thomas held up his platter of lemonade and I did the same with my cookies.
"Snacks!" Uncle Buford pushed Uncle Baljeet out of the way and stormed towards me.

I remember Uncle Baljeet telling me stories of when Uncle Buford was a huge bully but I couldn't believe him since Uncle Buford was always sweet and gave us presents whenever he came back from filming a shoot.

Now as he ran towards me like an angry bull, I couldn't help but be scared. Instincts kicked in as he got too close. I quickly threw the platter in the air and locked him in a head lock and tied his hands and feet together with a nearby hose. Then I caught the cookie platter, catching every single cookie and smiled. Just like Mom and Uncle Buford taught me.

My smile faltered as I saw that they were staring at me with their mouths open in shock.

"Um...joke?" I giggled nervously and untied him.
Uncle Buford rubbed his wrists. "Tough gum, girly, who taught you those moves?"
Mom came over and inspected the ties around his feet. "And who taught you these knots? It's a Fireside Girl Troop #46321 speciality..."
Thomas came over and saved me from answering. "Her mom and one of our Uncles taught her."
Uncle Buford smiled approvingly and then held out his hand to me. I smiled and shook it. "You're alright with me, girl."
Mom grabbed a cookie and popped in her mouth. "Hey, are you...are you staying with Phineas and Ferb?"
"Oh, yea! Uh...we're on...on vacation!" I lied.
"Oh...for how long?" She asked.
"Um..." I looked at Thomas and he shrugged. "I don't know..."
"Ok!" Mom flashed me a smile and I gulped.

That smile usually meant she was mad at me for doing something I shouldn't have.

"Hey, Marie, can we talk? Just a girl to girl talk?" She asked, still smiling.
"Um...I...ok..." I bit my lip and followed her to the tree.

When no one could see, her smile dropped. "You seem like a really cool girl and we could be friends but before that, we need to set one thing straight."
"I know, I know. Dad is yours and I can't mess with him because then you'll beat the fudgies out of me." I said.

Sweet cheese and crackers, I should've just kept my mouth shut.

Mom looked sorta grossed out. "Um...what? Why would I want your Dad?"
My eyes widen and I waved my hands. "Uh, no! S-Sorry! I meant, Phineas is yours! Ignore me! Sorry, I-"
Suddenly, she laughed. "I was just kidding! I mean, I like Phineas, and I mean like like, like for a really long time but I won't do anything to you. I mean, you guys are cousins after all!"
I sighed happily. "Oh, yea! That'd be gross!"

She leaned in. "So that guy you're with. Is he your boyfriend?"
I blinked and then laughed. "Thomas? No, he's my cousin."
She smirked. "So you've got two cute guys as cousins? Sweet. All I have are annoying little kid cousins."

I bit my lip to keep from laughing. She wouldn't be thinking Thomas was that kind of cute in 28 years.

"Hey, Isabella! Marie! I was thinking we could all have a huge sleepover together!" Dad said, walking over to us.
"Unfortunately, Un-...Buford and Baljeet can't come  so it'll just be us." Thomas added.
"Are you allowed to sleepover, Izzy?" Dad asked.
Mom beamed. "Yes!"
I leaned over and whispered, "You might want to dial it back. You're getting crazy eyes."
Mom calmed down and leaned over. "Thanks."

Then she did a double take. "Wait, who told you about my crazy eyes?"
"Oh, uh, my-my Mom told me she used to get that." I said. It wasn't a lie.
"Oh, cool." She said.

"You don't need to call your Mom, Isabella?" Dad asked.
"It's fine!" She said.
"Oh, that's too bad..." Dad said, looking sad.
"W-What? Why?" Mom asked, suddenly worried.
Dad perked up again and pulled out a pink phone from his pocket. "Because it's your birthday!"
Mom blinked and then squealed. "Phineas!"

She ran over and squeezed him in a hug. "Thank you! I love it!"
"I'm glad. I know it's small but you said you didn't want a big party and just something small. I hope it's ok." Dad blushed.
"It's perfect." Mom kissed Dad's cheek and he blushed even more.
"G-Great...." He smiled.
Ferb nudged him.
"O-Oh, yea! Ferb and I also have phones and so do Buford and Baljeet so if you ever need us, we're on speed dial! There's also a bunch of cool apps and games!" Dad exclaimed as he got excited about the phones.

An idea popped into my head and I smirked, pushing Mom gently towards Dad. "Hey, since all you got her was a phone, why don't you guys go out for ice cream tomorrow?"
Dad beamed. "That's a great idea! I-I mean only if you want to, Izzy..."
Mom bit her lip to keep from going crazy. "I'd love that."
"Cool! Oh, come inside, guys! We're sleeping in me and Ferb's room!" Dad said and walked inside with Ferb.

Mom turned to me and hugged me. "Thank you!"
I hugged her back tightly. I haven't hugged her since the funeral. "Anytime."

She skipped inside and Thomas put his arm around me. "Good idea, Mare."
I slipped my arm around his waist, good naturedly. "Thanks, Tommy!"
"Don't call me that." He warned.
I laughed and pulled him inside.

When we got to Dad's room, Thomas stopped me. "One more thing; start thinking of them as just Isabella and Phineas. If you keep thinking of them as Mom and Dad, then you might slip up. Same goes for Ferb, Buford, and Baljeet."
"But-"
"Marie, this is serious. We can't let them know about us and what happens to Phineas so no more thinking of them as your parents." Thomas said.
I sighed. "Ok..."

Phineas opened the door. "You guys are slow, come on! We set up five sleeping bags! Have your pick!"

We went in. I saw an orange, green, and pink one. Most likely for...for Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella.

There was also another orange and green one and I immediately skipped over to the orange one. Orange was my favorite color. Thomas went to the green one. Green was his favorite.

I saw that I was next to Isabella and she was next to Phineas and I grinned. They looked so happy.

Phineas sat up. "You guys aren't tired, are you?"
We shook our heads.
"Great! Wanna play a game?" He asked.
We nodded.

I felt fur brush against my leg and I saw Perry. I picked him and laid him in my lap. He krr'ed. He sniffed me and I swear he looked confused for a second but then he fell asleep.

"Cool! It's called 2 truths, 1 lie! Basically you say three sentences and one of them has to be a lie. If we can guess your lie, then you're out. It's just a little thing we do with new friends and since you guys are staying here for a while, we have to know you!" Phineas explained.
"Marie, you wanna go first?" Isabella asked.
"Ok! Um, I'm afraid of woodpeckers, I love to sing, and I'm eighteen!" I smiled. Then I gasped and covered my mouth.

Oh, periwinkle, I forgot I was supposed to be 12.

This one was a bit of a filler but it's sorta relevant and important to the coming events. Also I wrote this at a resort and they didn't have wifi so...haha
