Talise
A baby was born
With pink lips and brown eyes.
And she laughed, and she'd whine;
But I loved her. She was mine.
When her fathers got married,
We moved out of town.
And we all built a home
Where we could all be around.
A child turned three
And she loved eating cake.
She would sing out of key,
And was always awake.
Her grandma wrote letters
Which she still couldn't read
And she signed them, "Forever,
to my darling, Talise."
A child was eight
Who loved going to school.
And she'd always get A's,
And she followed the rules.She met a nice boy,
And they'd kiss on the cheek.
She wrote him a letter,
He gave her a ring.
A child turned ten
And she asked what we did;
And I tried to pretend
She was still just a kid.
A father got shot
And forgot who we were.
That was the first moment
I couldn't protect her.
She asked us more questions,
We tried to deny.
When she found out the truth
She was terrified.
We tried to explain
But she didn't believe.
And she said that she knew;
That she wasn't naive.
I buried my baby,
I'll never see her again.
She was young, and I loved her.
She was barely past ten.
And her fathers are dead.
And her grandma as well.
And what we all never got
Was a final farewell.
