Sorrow
Bucky had just been rescued from Hydra, he had just seen Steve in his new form, unsure of what he was looking at but coming to the conclusion that this may have something to do with Aurora's new workforce. She wasn't supposed to tell Bucky about her new job but she did and he vowed to keep her secret, he didn't even know anything because she didn't know anything about her job and what happens in the areas that she wasn't a part of but he trusted her and knew that this was better than any other job and she seemed happier which is what he wanted for her.
After returning to base, and dealing with all the heartache, Steve took Bucky to a private tent where he could inform Bucky of things during the brief period where they were separated. Bucky didn't let his friend give him a chance to explain what was happening as his immediate thought was Aurora.
"Is Ro okay? Did you see her before all this? Before you got here?" Steve paused for a moment, he knew his friend loved the girl with all his heart but it was impressive to know that even after he was harmed at the enemies' hand that his first priority was the girl that they had both known for years.
"I saw her before I left, she was there once I got this, it's where she works. She assessed me before I was okay to be sent out, she seemed okay and wanted you to know how much she loves you and how worried she is for you." Bucky smiled at the thought of the girl, he missed her so much, he just wanted to be back with her and continue their life together. Bucky plonked himself down, minding his own business as they sat in silence. Steve held back a smile as he saw Peggy, Bucky noticed the smile and turned to see what he was gawking at, Bucky's heart swelled seeing the familiar face, and he stumbled as he ran over to the girl who has his heart.
Aurora squealed as Bucky picked her up, holding her tightly in his arms, Bucky smothered her in kisses and cradled her in his arms, scared to let her go again and let her out of his sight after what happened to him before Steve rescued what was left of his infantry.
He continued placing kisses on her lips, holding her longer and longer as time went by, Aurora hummed as Bucky carefully placed her down and crouched down to be at her eye level. He stared at her lovingly for a moment and grinned as she started surveying him to see if he had any visible injuries.
"What are you doing here?" He whispered, continuing to stare at her, cupping her face softly in his hands and lovingly caressing the skin where his thumbs lay. She took his hands and gave him a reassuring smile, soothingly running her thumbs over his knuckles and making sure that Bucky knew to take his time adjusting. The girl didn't know what happened but she knew something happened and that behind his eyes were fear and pain. It was her ability she knew Bucky's cover-ups and ways of showing/hiding his emotions.
"I'm a nurse down here now, Peggy got me to come along. Let's go somewhere else, Buck, please." He watched Steve and Peggy walk out, the girl got him to sit down and then knelt in front of him. She stared at him for a moment, smiling softly and took his hands as a way of comfort but support to keep herself steady.
"What happened, love?" She whispered quietly, not wanting to draw any attention to him, not wanting him to close off instead of opening up. Bucky hesitated for a moment, fear and doubt lying in his eyes, Aurora was happy to wait for him. He took a deep breath, thinking of how to word the nightmare he just faced and stared at their hands to avoid confrontation.
"You're a mind reader, you know that?" He chuckled quietly, procrastinating for a moment, smiling gently at Aurora's stern look, he didn't have anything against opening up to her it's just he was scared of telling her the horrors he faced and scared of taking away her innocence if she knew just how cruel the world could actually be besides what she already knew.
"I know, but I'm just really good at knowing you." Her voice was quiet and caring, she sat down, still gripping onto him and just staring lovingly into his eyes.
Bucky explained to her what happened, how they experimented on him and he didn't really know what they did to him but he knew it wasn't right and that he felt different and strange. Aurora comforted him, telling him that she'll talk to Peggy about getting him back to America and see what they could do about investigating what happened to him.
Aurora knew Bucky was scared, she could see it in his eyes and feel the fear that he was feeling. The girl dragged him down to the ground, crawling into his lap, Bucky kissed her forehead and kept her secure in his hold. Aurora gently ran her hand across his face, smiling as he relaxed against her touch, the fear seemed to disappear and he seemed decently happy again.
"You make all the bad stuff go away." He whispered, looking at her and only seeing her, Aurora took a moment before pushing herself off of him. Bucky stood up with her, he didn't want to take her out of his sight. Bucky knew that bad people were hiding amongst the army, people who had bad morals but hid their sins. Aurora hummed gently, Bucky kissed her lips, caressing her cheek and taking her hand to lead her outside. Bucky surveyed his surroundings, he was cautious, he felt more vulnerable and knowing that Aurora was here scared him, he didn't care about his safety... he only cared about Aurora and her safety. James led her to his newly appointed tent, Aurora basically got him to strip, she checked for wounds and any noticeable differences but she couldn't notice anything.
Bucky stared at her with a slightly boyish look, she smacked his chest, staring at him flustered over the suggestive look and unsure of how to respond to the particular situation.
"James!" He leaned down to kiss her lips, chuckling as she threw his shirt against his chest and flopped down on the cot laid out for him. Bucky got dressed, sat down next to her and encased her hand in his, he stared at her with a gentle smile and leaned in to kiss her lips.
"I love you, Ro." He whispered, kissing her lips and keeping her close to hold. Bucky hummed as she said the words back, he missed her touch and craved to hear her voice more. Aurora pushed him to lie down, he brought her with him and stroked her hair as he watched her eyes dart back and forth across certain things in the room.
Hours later the two realised they had fallen asleep, Bucky grinned as Aurora kissed his lips and then Eskimo kissed him. He whispered the three familiar words again and rolled out of the bed. The brunette girl sat up, unsure of what she was hearing but it was frightening. Bucky went on high alert quickly, he grabbed the girl's hand and ran out, leading her to a safer bay. Bucky got her to a safer nurse station while he left to fire back at the enemies. Aurora started helping those injured, she didn't know what was happening out there yet she knew that they would lose many in this current battle. As the brunette was gathering supplies, she noticed something rolling in.
"Grenade!" Aurora leapt down, falling through the tent and cowering at the explosion, Aurora whimpered at the constant gunfire and whimpered as pain coursed through her body. The girl pushed herself up, shaking as looked around for help in her dazed-struck mind.
"Ro!" The girl spun around, stumbling slightly as she moved to look at Bucky, he held his gun up to defend himself if needed but they weren't being shot at.
"Oh, god, look at you." Aurora glanced down to see the stick poking out of her belly, Bucky caught her as she fell, he dragged her out of the main line of fire and laid her down
