Prologue
“Fluttershy, honey – the bus is almost here for you. Come and get some breakfast before you head out, all right?” My mother’s sweet voice rang out from behind my bedroom door as she knocked gently on it.
“Okay, I’ll be right out in a minute.” I replied back and looked back at my mirror where I sat brushing my pastel pink hair. Once my hair was in its natural wavy state, I stood up and walked over to my bed. My yellow and white baseball shirt sat on the covers of my bed, folded neatly. I hurriedly pulled off my pajamas and slipped on the shirt and some white denim shorts. Afterwards, I pulled on my worn out white Converse and finally walked out of my bedroom whilst slinging my brown messenger bag onto my shoulder.
I shut the door behind me quietly, and walked down the hall until I reached the living room, and made a right turn into the kitchen. My mother must have heard me arriving, for she looked over her shoulder and smiled at me. I returned the smile, but frowned as I noticed a fresh purple bruise on her cheek. He’s at it again…
My mother cleared her throat and pointed over at a white ceramic plate that was perched on the wooden countertop, “Eat up, Shy. It’s your favorite!” She giggled at the end of her sentence and she returned her gaze back onto the sizzling frying pan in front of her. Her silvery-pink hair was as wavy as mine, only hers reached up a few inches past her shoulders. She had on a flowery sun dress and was sporting a white apron.
I grinned at nothing in particular, and walked over to the counter to retrieve my breakfast for the day: Salad, with a side of fruit and veggies and some ranch dressing – just the way I loved it. My hand reached down to the bronze handle of the drawer and pulled them open. I picked up a fork and closed it shut before finally settling down on the kitchen table to eat.
Not even ten minutes had passed, and my mother and I both heard the sound of the front door opening, and slamming shut. I cringed at the noise, and at the person who had just arrived. My mother fearfully looked back at me and whispered, “Shy… Leave the house and wait for your bus to get here –“
The sound of keys hitting the hard surface of the desk in doorway was heard, along with footsteps.
“The door – now!” My mother’s eyes grew worried. I knew what was going to happen next, but I would rather not stay to see the results. Instead, I obeyed my mother and quickly slung my bag over my shoulder and dashed towards the white door that was conveniently located just a few feet away from where I was sitting. “I love you, Shy… Have a nice day at school.”
“I love you too, mom.” My lip quivered as I closed the door as quietly as I could. Leaving my mother alone with my father was just too much for me to handle. Seconds passed, and the angry shouts were heard. I covered my ears with both hands and rushed to sidewalk as quickly as I could to avoid the treatment my father gave to my mother.
I shakily sighed out, and already felt the tears prick my eyes. I quickly wiped away the tears as soon as I saw the yellow school bus driving down the street. Sniffling, I then took a deep breath and exhaled, returning back to my calm demeanor, although inside I was having a terrible anxiety attack. I just hope my mom is all right…
Seconds later, the bus came to a halt a few feet away from me and the doors slowly slid open for me. I gulped, and shakily climbed up the steps of the vehicle and gave a nervous smile to the bus driver who appeared to be in their late fifties tops.
I observed the rows of seats and picked out an empty seat and sat down close to the window to look out of during the ride to my new school. The bus started up again, and the moment the doors closed, the bus was already up and running. My breath shakily escaped from my lips, and it was then the realization hit at how anxious I was becoming.
Yes, Canterlot High was a school that every parent dreamed of having their own teenagers attend – a private school, where most of the hard working students go to in hopes of graduating and setting out to find a university or college that’s right for them. I remember always wanting to attend the school, but my father wouldn’t allow it… Luckily my mother talked him into it, which was a very rare thing to do. Am I happy that I moved into the school two years late? It’s better than never!
The bus ride was pretty quiet, apart from the group of students that were talking and laughing at the back of the bus. It must have been at least fifteen minutes before the bus stopped for the last time and found ourselves on the school grounds. The bus doors opened, ushering me to get off. Once I was off, I found myself staring at a very large school that consisted of at least six floors with several windows decorating each floor beautifully.
Many flowers and plants were beautifully placed on the front lawn of the school, along with large Oak trees. Many students could be seen walking around campus with friends. I advanced towards the school still admiring every detail of the massive school. I was too caught up with the surroundings that I hadn’t even looked where I was going and ended up running into a purple haired girl, knocking her down into the floor.
The girl wore a ruffled, dark purple skirt that reached mid-thigh. She had on a white blouse with a lavender colored sweater vest over it, completing her sophisticated look along with her black framed glasses… Which might I add also fell to the pavement.
I gasped loudly, and covered my mouth. Tears threatened to spill, and I stuttered an apology. “I-I’m… Oh my g-gosh, I’m s-so sorry! I w-wasn’t l-looking where I was g-going!” A single tear shed from my eye and down my cheek. The girl on the floor noticed, and her annoyed look turned into that of a worried one.
“It’s all right. I wasn’t looking where I was going either. Are you okay?” The girl stood up and fixed her purple hair. It took me a moment to notice that bright pink streak of hair that ran down the right side of her bangs. The girl picked up her glasses and extended her hand towards me with a warm smile.
I shakily reached my hand towards hers and shook it. The girl laughed, probably at how nervous I was getting. “No need to be so nervous! I’m Twilight Sparkle. President of student council here.” She paused to retrieve a textbook that had fallen to the sidewalk. Once she stood up, I quickly threw another apology. She only laughed. “Anyways, what’s your name? I don’t think I’ve seen you around before.”
“I’m… Fluttershy.” My name came out in an unintentional whisper. Twilight leaned forward with a bit of a confused expression on her face.
“Sorry, what was that?”
“F-Fluttershy.” I stared down at the ground, and felt myself trembling by the second.
“Didn’t quite catch that, sorry.” Twilight stepped closer and I finally took a deep breath.
“M-My name is, Fluttershy.” I wiped my face a little with the sleeve of my shirt. Twilight smiled warmly.
“Nice to meet you, Fluttershy. Since you’re new here, I think it’d be best if I showed you around campus. Especially since this is a pretty big school as you can see,” Twilight looked over at the school and adjusted the book in her arms. “Plus, I wouldn’t really mind showing a new girl around the sch –“
“DID SOMEBODY SAY ‘NEW GIRL’?!” A loud female voice shouted out, causing me to yelp in fright. Twilight simply face palmed herself and sighed, as if she went through this every single day. From the corner of my eye was a hot pink blur that unsettled me at how quickly it was moving. Then out of the blue, a girl popped up in front of me, startling me half to death. I only screamed at the sudden appearance, and the girl simply giggled.
“Heehee! I’m Pinkie Pie! You must be the new girl that Twilight over here was talking about just a minute ago! Did you just transfer here from another school? What’s your name? How old are you? What grade are you in? How is –“ Twilight suddenly slapped a hand over Pinkie Pie’s mouth, silencing her.
I gave Pinkie a second glance and noticed that she had an incredibly curly and puffy hot pink hair. She wore denim shorts with a pale yellow shirt that was decorated perfectly with blue suspenders that had random motivational and silly buttons attached to them. She wore knee high yellow and blue socks with pink Converse that had three balloons drawn on them.
“Give her a break, Pinkie! Her name’s Fluttershy –“ I cut Twilight off by waving my hand in front of her face, and smiled weakly. Twilight got the message and smiled back, but remained her hand on Pinkie’s mouth.
“I’m Fluttershy. I j-just transferred from C-Cloudsdale High yesterday. I’m actually a junior, and I’m seventeen y-years old,” I said quietly, answering the hyper active teen. Twilight cautiously removed her hand from Pinkie whose eyes widened with wonder.
“OooOoo!! All three of us are juniors too! How super amazingly awesome is THAT?!” Pinkie suddenly began jumping up and down excitedly, while Twilight looked as if she were done with Pinkie’s antics. I only replied by laughing silently to myself. Pinkie Pie giggled at nothing in particular, until something or someone caught her attention. “Sorry guys! Cheese is here already! It was nice meeting you, Fluttershy! Catch you two later!”
With that said Pinkie Pie dashed off to the direction to where “Cheese” was at. I glanced over and Twilight confusingly, hoping that she’d have something that’d answer my question. Twilight laughed, “Oh, sorry. Cheese Sandwich is Pinkie Pie’s crush. Everyone in the whole school knows about it, but yet her and Cheese refuse to admit they have feelings for each other even though its obvious.”
“Oh, that makes sense…” For a moment we both stood there awkwardly until Twilight cleared her throat.
“Well since you’re new here, I guess it’s time that I show you around campus and right it is exactly…” She checked her watch, “9:13, which means that we have roughly twenty-five minutes to show you where your classes will be held at, and only about seven minutes to get to our classes. All classes begin at 9:50 and school ends at 5:30 – but trust me, school here is going to fly by pretty quickly.”
“W-Well that’s good to know… S-So shall we start the t-tour n-now?” Twilight simply nodded with joy, and seemed as if she really loved showing new students around the large school. As soon as we began to advance toward the main entrance of the school, Twilight spun around to face me, scaring me a bit.
“Alrighty, first of all, I need to know if you have your schedule or not. So, do you have one with you right now?” I nodded my head, and reached over to my messenger bag and opened the small pocket on the front, and pulled out the green slip. I handed it to Twilight, and closed up my bag. Twilight scanned my schedule with a smile.
“Looks like you and I have the same EQ History, Chemistry, and pre-Calculus classes! Also, you have the same lunch as me and Pinkie Pie and our other friends too!” Twilight stated with a little shriek of glee. I smiled widely. Today was gonna be just fine.
