Chapter 36: Mine to Share
"We're getting married."
Those three words echoed through my brain. My mom and Discord sat down in front of me intently waiting for a response. I swallowed hard, my mouth suddenly going dry. I wasn't exactly ecstatic about the news considering how my mother just finished escaping a horrible marriage – but the thought of getting a second chance of having a father that would actually care for me and my siblings was almost too good to be true.
"That's... I mean, that's incredible!" I breathed out with a large smile. The couple in front of me kissed each other lovingly and gripped onto their hands tightly. You could see the love in the air – it was undeniable. "If you two are happy together, then go for it. I'm tired of seeing you unhappy, mom. But... Seeing you with you with him... It shows. I don't know if I'm making any sense or not."
"Crystal clear," Discord said suddenly. We made eye contact, and I felt the corner of my lips curving into a smile.
"As long as you treat my siblings as your own, you're good to go," I said with a raised eyebrow. He smirked and slapped his hands on his knees before standing up on his feet.
"I was made for children," He winked at me and shot a silly face at me. I couldn't help but giggle at his antic. The three of us hugged some more before I exited their hotel room. Slowly, I returned into mine where I found Angel terrorizing Rainbow Dash as usual.
Angel was tossing and throwing pillows across the room to hit Rainbow Dash. I was about to intervene until I saw Rainbow Dash laughing. She was actually playing with my little sibling.
"Just 'cause you're small doesn't mean I'm going to take it easy on you!" Rainbow shouted out gleefully. Angel laughed at her outburst and ran toward her with a pillow held high over his head. I cleared my throat before they were able to actually hit each other.
Rainbow Dash straightened up immediately and held her pillow behind her back while Angel squealed and ran to hide under the covers where Featherweight was sitting eating his own breakfast. Rainbow chuckled nervously, "Uh... H-How long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough," I replied with a short giggle. Her cheeks reddened immediately at my response. I walked over to her and laced my fingers through hers casually.
"So... I have some news I have to tell you," I whispered to her. A flash of worry crossed her ruby eyes. The both of us walked together outside of the room and into the hallway. We walked hand in hand together toward the elevators. "They're going to get married."
"W-What?!" Rainbow choked on her own saliva and began coughing uncontrollably. I smacked her on the back a few times before she finally stopped. She was breathing heavily by the time she was able to regain her breath. The elevator doors opened in front of us when two people exited the elevator to make room for us.
Rainbow and I stepped inside and pressed the button for the lobby, the button turning yellow after pressing it. The doors shut closed, and we were left standing together in awkward silence.
"So... Dad jokes, huh?" Rainbow asked with a little chuckle.
"I don't get why you hate that so much." I said with a little eye roll. Rainbow visibly stiffened and averted her gaze to the floor.
"My dad used to say them all the time when I was a kid – at least before he started treating me like crap," she said under her breath. She exhaled and relaxed her body at the same time. The little fire in her eyes remained.
"I'm sorry if I was being rude," I said apologetically. She gave me a half smile and playfully hit my arm.
"You're good. You didn't know... It's just going to be so weird that my girlfriend's dad is the very teacher I disliked in my high school career," Rainbow responded. I shook my head and grinned. The elevator came to a slow stop and soon the elevator doors opened for us. The scent of freshly made waffles swam through the air of the lobby.
We walked with our hands laced together toward the breakfast line. There was a diversity of other people walking through the breakfast line to get their share of toast and pancakes or waffles. My mouth watered at the sight of the fluffy pancakes sitting before us. Rainbow Dash got her plate of waffles and lathered them up with syrup... A lot of syrup.
I got a plate of two pancakes with sliced oranges and strawberries on the side. I poured myself a glass of orange juice while Rainbow Dash was waiting her turn to get a cup of coffee. I gave her a quick kiss and immediately made a beeline to an empty table just a few feet from where we stood. Upon arrival, I set down my food and sat down before quietly chowing down on my platter of food.
Soon after, Rainbow set her piping hot cup of coffee down in front of me and began eating her waffles messily. A string of maple syrup fell from the side of her mouth as she continued stuffing her face with the food. I covered my mouth and giggled. She looked over at me confusingly before taking a sip of her coffee.
"I forgot what it was like to have breakfast with you in the morning..." I said to her with a small sigh. She swallowed her food and looked over at me with a grin on her face. Her hand reached out to mine and wrapped her fingers around mine. They were slightly sticky, but I didn't mind. Rainbow looked at me with a nervous gleam in her eyes.
"Hey... There was something I've been meaning to ask you, babe."
"What?" I asked her curiously. She looked around uncertainly and shook her head with a little smile on her lips. She chuckled to herself.
"I can't even believe I'm nervous to even ask..." She began and licked her lips. I watched her intently as I waited for her question.
"After everything that went down these past few months... I was wondering how you would feel sharing a home with me."
