Fluttershy’s POV
The bus ride home wasn’t at all that interesting just like I had suspected. The same group of students from this morning was once again at the back of the bus cracking jokes. I pulled out my cell phone, which was an HTC One. Looking at the time, I saw that it was already 5:47. No new text messages either.
I looked out the window of the bus and saw my home up ahead. I grabbed my bag and stood up, still holding onto the seat to keep myself balanced. The bus driver noticed this, and began to slow down. It finally came to a complete halt, and I walked right down the steps, and onto the street. The bus drove off, and I started walking towards my front door. I reached into my front pocket and pulled out a set of house keys and unlocked the door and walked right in.
“Hey, hon! How was your first day? Make any new friends? How are the teachers? Are they treating you right? Did you eat lunch?” The first thing that happened as soon as I walked in was my mother bombarding me with questions. I only laughed, and began to nod.
“It was good. I made a lot of new friends today… One of them showed me around campus, so I kinda know where some things are. The teachers are nice too – but my P.E Coach was a little scary. My chemistry teacher is… Interesting? His name is Professor Discord –“
“Discord?! As in… The guy that dresses all weirdly, and talks way too formally at times?! The one who wears mismatching clothing?! THAT Discord?!” My mother practically yelled it out with both shock and happiness. I was confused by this and I nodded. Mom squealed in joy.
“Why?” I questioned, setting my bag down on the kitchen table, and took a seat while waiting for my mother to answer.
“Because! I went to college with him! I cannot wait to meet him in parent teacher night – they do have that, right?” I nodded once more, “Great! Oh my gosh, it’s been years since I’ve last seen or heard from him. It’s nice to know that he’s still alive – his disastrous ways almost got him arrested one time at that party in the dorms… Ah, good times.” She laughed at the memory, and began to walk back to the kitchen sink to finish washing the dishes.
I was shocked to say the least. I wouldn’t have expected for her to actually know one of my teachers… Who would have thought a woman like my mom – who is as timid as I am – would actually attend sorority and fraternity parties in college?
My mother seemed to be in a giddy mood this evening – which I had to admit was very unusual. Most of the time she would be in a depressed mood whenever I would get home from school… I wonder what made her really happy.
“I can tell you’re thinking about some things, Shy…” She paused briefly until she finally got the message, “Oh! You’re wondering why I’m happy… Haha, well… Let’s just say that your father will be out of town for a while. And when I say “a while”, I mean a full month.” My jaw dropped, and I just couldn’t believe my own ears. He would never trust us both on our own together!
You see, my father works at a wrestling company that’s known all throughout Equestria. Apparently, he was called to go to Manehattan with his employees to start going over some things about introducing new female wrestlers into the work environment and all. In addition to that, my father was also called over there to help train the male wrestlers improve their fighting tactics. You could probably imagine why I stress over my mother’s injuries now…
As if on cue, my cell phone rang. I pulled out my phone from my front pocket and saw the Rarity’s face on the screen. I happily answered it, and immediately I could hear the excitement in her voice, “Fluttershy, darling! Have you heard about the news, yet?”
My mother glanced over at me curiously while she was washing the dishes. I mouthed the words “new friend” to her, and she smiled broadly. “Um, no I haven’t… What’s the news? Oh wait – bad or good news? I hope it’s good news…”
“Calm yourself, Fluttershy! I assure you, it’s nothing at all that bad. I’m just surprised that Pinkie Pie hasn’t announced anything to you yet. Well… The big news is that there’s going to be a party later on this evening. We were just wondering if you wouldn’t mind tagging along with the group? You know, instead of being cooped up inside your home. It’d be nice to let off any stress you might be carrying around with you. All of our friends are going. So, what do you –“ Rarity shrieked in what sounded like terror.
“HEY FLUTTERSHY! ARE YOU COMING TO SOARIN’S PARTY TONIGHT?! IT’S GONNA BE SUPER DUPER AWESOMELY AMAZING! YOU SHOULD COME BEFORE ALL THE FOOD IS GONE!” Pinkie Pie’s voice suddenly yelled out, catching me off guard completely. Pinkie giggled madly, and I could hear Rarity’s complaints in the background.
“Hi, Pinkie… And um – I don’t know if I can go. Let me ask my mom, hang on for a second…” I set my phone down on the kitchen table, and looked over at my mother with a questioning look. She turned off the faucet and looked over at me, genuinely curious.
“Um… My friends invited me over to go to a party tonight. Is it okay if I can go?” I asked her quietly. “It’s okay if you don’t want me to go, I’ll understand,” I blurted out the moment her mouth opened. She gaped at me, and just laughed.
“Honey, I only say no to things like that when your father is around. Lucky for you, he isn’t. So of course you can go! It’s about time you get out of the house and hang out with some friends, after all.” I looked up at her with a large smile. Everything she had just said was a hundred percent true after all. My father never let me go out with anyone. I excitedly reached over for my phone, and saw that they still hadn’t hung up yet.
“Hello?” I said into the phone. Almost in an instant I heard Rarity’s posh voice fill my ears again.
“Yes, darling?”
“I can go to the party after all. When is it?” I heard Rarity gasp in happiness.
“We’ll be over to pick you up right now. What’s your address, dear?” I gave her my home address, and there was a small pause before Rarity said that they’d pick me up in less than thirty minutes. After we said our good-bye’s, I hung up the phone, grabbed my things and made a bee line to my bedroom.
I shut the door behind me and threw my bag onto my bed, and opened up my closet to see what exactly I should wear tonight. Obviously, it’s nothing too formal, so the dresses are out. I looked through my different t-shirts, and finally found my favorite green sweater with the three pink butterflies on the bottom left corner of the clothing. I also took down some faded blue skinny jeans from the hanger and began to change into my new outfit for tonight.
Once I felt like I was ready, I brushed my hair a bit and grabbed my cell phone that I had left on my bed. I exited my room and gently closed the door behind me, and walked down the hall, and took a right, back into the kitchen.
“You ready, Shy – or are your friends going to pick you up?” My mother asked me while drying some dishes with a multicolored cloth.
“Yeah, I’m all set. Rarity, and my other friends are actually come to get me in a few minutes.” My mother looked at me and I could already see the excitement in her eyes. I knew that she was happy for me. I hardly ever had friends growing up – and I was usually the outcast in every social situation. I guess you could say that that still happens to me at times.
For the next five minutes my mother and I continued to converse about the party – and she basically went over the rules of not taking any drinks that are offered to me by people I don’t know and to stay away from the drugs. I only agreed, because I wasn’t at all interested in partaking in any of those things that most of the teenagers do nowadays. The last she went over was to stay with my group of friends, and believe me – the last thing I would want to do was to get lost.
There were two honks outside, and I immediately knew that they were there. I got up from the chair and gave my mom a quick hug and finally walked out the front door. I shut the door behind me after locking it, and looked up only to find myself freezing right on the spot.
Parked on my driveway, was a sky blue convertible Jaguar with an all too familiar rainbow colored lightning bolt painted on the hood of the car. I noticed my friends waving and smiling from ear-to-ear happily. I looked over at the driver and saw that she was tapping away at her phone. Once she looked up, our eyes locked together, and her jaw slowly dropped. I felt my face heat up in an instant.
“Fluttershy! Get in – don’t be shy,” Spike called out to me with a small laugh at the end. Slowly, I advanced towards the car and took a seat next to Twilight, who was now wearing a pair of light washed jeans and was sporting a black and white Wondercolts baseball tee. She dressed so casually when she was out with friends!
“Hey, Fluttershy! We’re so glad you could make it!” Twilight gave me a side hug, and I only laughed a bit. The car started once again and by the time we knew it, we were off – away from my neighborhood. Throughout the entire ride, Rainbow Dash didn’t dare mutter a single word.
After about ten minutes of joking around and laughing at random childhood moments that the girls brought up. I would occasionally see Rainbow Dash trying to hold back a smile whenever a joke was told by Pinkie Pie – I mean, come on. Who WOULDN’T laugh at her jokes?
Soon, the car began to slow down and the sound of music was gradually growing louder by the second. At this point, I knew we were close to the where the party was being held at. The sun had already set, and the sky was a beautiful navy blue color with clouds hovering above.
The car continued to move, passing by several different houses and soon a large mansion came into view. My mouth nearly fell open at the large building, and I heard the girls (and Spike) gasp in amazement. From the rearview mirror, I saw Rainbow Dash smirk a little. Up ahead, was a long path that would soon lead to the mansion’s huge driveway.
Several different cars and trucks were parked on different parts of the driveway. The lawn of the home was filled with vegetation, and was complete with a stone fountain of a horse standing on its hind legs with water spewing out of its mouth. The entrance of the home was filled with different potted plants filled with a variety of flowers. A few teenagers came in and out of the mansion from the front door, which was painted brick red.
Rainbow Dash continued to drive the car closer to the mansion, and it was then that I noticed a large black metal fence that extended to the backyard where you could clearly hear a crowd of people laughing and screaming. I could have sworn I even heard splashes of water. By now the music was on full blast and I could already hear Pinkie Pie singing along to the song, as well as Rarity and two others.
Finally, Dash’s car stopped moving and soon after she shut it off. Everyone excitedly jumped out of the car.
Rainbow Dash was the last to get out of the vehicle, and she locked the car. She smiled, and took her cell phone out. She held up a hand to signal the girls to wait a bit. We all stood close together, and soon we began to make conversation while Dash was talking to someone on the phone.
“So, um… Who’s house does this belong to, if I may ask?” I asked Twilight in a hush. Twilight gazed up at the mansion and opened her mouth to speak.
“Soarin’. He’s one of Rainbow’s closest childhood friends. Soarin’ is the co-captain of the school’s football team – and in case you’re wondering, Rainbow Dash is the captain of the team,” Twilight rolled her eyes then we both broke into laughter. Pinkie Pie suddenly came up from behind Twilight and put her arm around Twilight’s shoulders, startling her a bit. “What, Pinkie?”
“Nothing, really.” Pinkie burst into a fit of giggles, that caused Twilight to face palm herself in annoyance. “Just wanted to know how my friends are doing, ya know? Know what I’m sayin’?” I couldn’t help but laugh at Twilight’s reaction. We were interrupted by Rainbow Dash who began to announce that Soarin’ was going to come outside to introduce himself to us.
