Chapter 27: Wildfire

*Three weeks later*

"... All right, thank you so much for everything," I said, shaking our lawyer's hand. She flashed a pearly smile and nodded before heading out our home. I shut the front door and looked over to Scootaloo only to find her smiling widely. "Everything's set in stone... Holy shit."

Along with inheriting the Dash mansion, Scootaloo and I gained ownership of any valuables under either my mother or father's name. We inherited hundreds of thousands of dollars because of their efforts working in a sporting company (that we later learned that our mother owned that company as she stated in her will.) The will also guaranteed us job opportunities in that same company if we choose to take it - the offer will always remain open to either one of us. As far as education was concerned, my father had left a couple thousand dollars left in his savings account for any university we choose to attend after high school.

Life was going good. There hasn't been any sign of Gilda since she kissed me back in late September. Next Friday is the Nightmare Night holiday bash at Sweet Apple Acres, and Fluttershy's father was staying longer than intended.

"Who knew mom and dad left us this many things? Don't get me wrong, I can't ever forgive dad for doing those things to us... But it was strangely kind of him to do all this for us," Scootaloo said to me in a hush. She played with the sleeves of her dark purple sweater. I faintly smiled, and walked over to her to give her a hug.

"You know, if this place is still bothersome, we can always move out somewhere else," I said, taking a seat beside her. I reached out and grabbed a bottle of water behind the counter. Scootaloo looked down at her hands and sighed.

"I don't like this place. But I don't want to waste a lot of money on some other fancy house. They worked hard. We can't just blow through it," she replied. I was surprised by her response, but it was good that she's been smart about expenses.

"Who said anything about a fancy house? We don't have to live anywhere expensive. Just a simple one or two story house in the suburbs... We can just use this house for parties and band practice. I want us to stay somewhere... Safe. Where we both feel at ease," I suggested, taking a large gulp of water. Scootaloo considered my words.

"I'll think about it. Now come on, we gotta get to school," she said with a smile. I chuckled and walked with her out the door. "See ya later, Krypto!"

Krypto howled happily from the living room. I laughed and led my sister to my favorite blue car.

Fluttershy's POV
After changing into some light wash skinny jeans and a white tank top, I pulled on Rainbow's maroon pullover and styled my hair into a half ponytail. The pullover was a little baggy, but it was so comfy... Plus, Dashie loved seeing me in it. I smiled to myself and walked over to the kitchen where I found Rainbow Dash already inside having a full conversation with my mom. I grinned and leaned against the wall, both of them oblivious to my presence.

"... Nah, these past few weeks I've been coaching the school football team. Sadly, I've been having to do it alone since our co-captain ran into some personal issues. The sport I'm really excited for is basketball," Rainbow beamed with joy. My mom laughed and served her a plate of scrambled eggs and chocolate chip pancakes.

"You know, when I was in high school, I used to be in the tennis team with a best friend of mine..." my mom replied with a smirk. She laid out a plate of the same thing on the table next to Rainbow Dash, "Now those were my glory days. At least until college came and upstaged that... Fluttershy! Food's ready!"

She jumped when she turned and saw me in the hallway.

"Thank you. How long have you two been talking? I didn't even hear you," I asked laughing. I sat down and kissed Rainbow on the cheek. She flushed red and kissed my hand delicately. My mom served herself a plate of breakfast and sat in front of us with the newspaper laid out in front of her.

"Mm - so... Rainbow was telling me about this party on Nightmare Night... I find it impressive that your girlfriend here has all these hook-ups. Like the local DJs and having a friend letting her borrow their property. Impressive," she said, sipping her coffee.

"It's not always dandy when all these random people know who you are," she stuffed some food into her mouth. "Eshpeshially shince it takes away from your privashy."

She swalled hard and washed it down with a glass of orange juice. She blushed and resumed eating.

"Wouldn't that be a little bit of a paradox considering you're in a band that's popular?" I asked with an eyebrow raised. Rainbow rolled her eyes and smiled.

"Whatever... but going back to the subject of the party. I would like to take your daughter with me. Its also a bit of a costume party," Rainbow said looking over to my mom, then at me. My mom took another sip of her coffee and went back to reading her paper.

"As long as you take care of her, I'm good," she said casually. Rainbow exhaled with relief and continued eating. The entire time she had her hand resting on my thigh as we ate our breakfast together, casually talking to one another.

Soon, Featherweight was up and left the house to get in his bus, signalling that it was time to take off. We put our dirty dishes into the sink and took off to school.

Chemistry class went by quickly, and Lyra and I luckily avoided any other potential explosions with our assignment. Professor Discord dismissed the class, throwing a few playful insults to Twilight. She rolled her eyes in annoyance and left the classroom with both Trixie and Sunset.

"We'll see you at lunch, Fluttershy!" Sunset said to me loud enough to hear. I smiled at her and began packing up my belongings. Again, Lyra and I were the last to depart.

"You know, I hated chemistry until I switched teachers. Discord actually knows how to have fun," Lyra exclaimed happily. We chatted until I noticed Professor Discord looking somber.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Lyra. I gotta ask Discord about our homework assignment," with that, Lyra waved bye to me and disappeared into the hallway, the talking growing silent once the classroom door shut. Professor Discord sighed loudly and laid his head on his desk.

"Um... Professor Discord?" I asked. Apparently he didn't know I was still in the room, since he jumped in his seat and looked over at me perplexed.

"Oh! Apologies, Fluttershy. I didn't know you were here," he chuckled and looked down at his hands sadly. He raised his head, "Do you need something?"

"Actually, I couldn't help but notice that something was wrong." I sat beside him, and he looked genuinely shocked. He sat back in his seat and scoffed.

"'Something was wrong.' Bah! What... What rubbish! What could have possibly led you to such an accusation?" He crossed his arms against his chest and huffed.

"Well... You weren't really making as many jokes as usual. You weren't walking around the classroom to check on us. You barely said a thing to me. To me. Forgive me for sounding conceited, but you always have something to say to me! You weren't even outside your classroom to greet us!" I frowned at him and crossed my arms, mocking him. Professor Discord eyed me with annoyance. I stared directly back at him. He looked away and sighed.

"I'm sorry. It was childish of me to act this way. It's just... My daughter isn't able to come see me on the holiday..." He furrowed his brow and pinched the bridge of his nose. I was genuinely surprised to hear of his hidden daughter. "I know, you must be thinking how someone, such as myself, could have a daughter... I wasn't the best man in my youth. I had her when I was only eighteen. Her mother was just another fling that summer... But, despite my best efforts, her mother hasn't allowed me to see her for the past three years now."

"Do you know why that is?" I asked in concern. Professor Discord laughed dryly. No humor within it.

"She's been seeing some man she met in college. I reckon she's ashamed to tell him about me and my daughter. See, Eris, my beautiful girl, has been under her care since she was born. Her mother probably told him awful stories about me and isn't letting Eris come to Ponyville." Discord pulled out his cell phone and began scrolling through the photos before stopping at one. He smiled with sadness. "Nightmare Night is her favorite holiday..."

He handed me his phone and I was able to see a photo of him with a young girl, maybe about ten years old, in his arms. Eris looked very similar. Red irises, yellow tinted eyes. She had long black and white hair. Her bright smile sported two sharp fangs - both of which were real.

"She was actually born on Nightmare Night... this was taken nine years ago. She's barely going to be attending college. I'm unsure where..." I handed him his phone. He stared at the photo longingly. He sighed once more.

"Have you tried looking for ways to contact Eris? Perhaps through social media?" I questioned, unsure of what else to say. Professor Discord pursed his lips and glanced down at his phone.

"Not entirely, no. I usually ask her mother's permission -"

"Then ditch her permission!" I said a bit loudly. He looked over at me, shocked. "She's nineteen years old. She's old enough to decide for herself, professor. If you want, perhaps I can find a way to contact her myself. Just in case."

Professor Discord lit up with joy. He leaned forward and gave me a quick hug, "Thank you, Fluttershy. I knew there was a reason why I liked you. Favorite student for a reason." He winked at me. We both shared a few laughs.

"I'll attempt contacting her through whatever I can find. Thank you." He bowed his head before we shared a quick goodbye. When I exited the classroom, Rainbow was waiting outside looking down at something on her phone.

"Hey," I said to her sweetly. She looked up at me and smiled widely. We pecked each other on the lips and headed over to the lunchroom.

Lunchtime was strangely tense between Rarity and Applejack. Spike sat between them, oblivious to the tension as he joked around with Pinkie Pie.

"Heehee! I forgot to tell you guys that my older sister is coming down with my family to celebrate Nightmare Night with me!" Pinkie Pie squealed excitedly.

"That's great, Pinks! Does that mean you'll be able to come to the party?" Dash asked her. Her face fell.

"No... I'm sorry guys. But I will be at Sugarcube Corner. Sweets will be on me," she said with a large smile. The girls talked amongst each other regarding the party, until someone passed by... and spilled their drink all over Sunset Shimmer.

"Oh... My bad," We followed the voice and saw Gilda passing by with a smirk. Sunset's face flushed red with anger. She balled her fists tightly. Rainbow Dash glared at Gilda before calling out to her.

"Quit picking on my friends, you fucking abuser. Get a life while you're walking," our table grew silent in the blink of an eye. Other students looked over to us and remained quiet. Gilda turned around. Her smirk was replaced with a scowl. Her eyes were filled with hate and malice.

"Bad mistake," she said before sauntering off, shoving away anyone in her way. Sunset looked over at Rainbow.

"Dash..." she spoke lightly. Twilight began helping Sunset clean up the mess on her clothes. All the while Sunset kept a worried face as she stared at Dash.

"I'm fine. Just... fucking pissed that she did that to you." I traced lines on Rainbow's arm lightly. She rested her hand on mine when Rarity abruptly stood up.

"If you would all excuse me..." she began getting her things when Spike attempted to reach out to her. She slapped his hand away. She threw icy stares at Applejack the entire time she walked away.

"Good riddance," Applejack said harshly before packing up her own things.

"What is with everyone today?" Twilight asked, obviously annoyed. Applejack left the same direction as Rarity as the remainder of us sat quietly together. Twilight sighed and buried her head in her hands. Sunset hugged Twilight until Twilight pulled away slightly, "Why do I have a feeling Gilda is behind their fight?"

"You're over thinking it. She hasn't been around for a long time, remember?" Spike said, concerned.

"Yeah... You're right. Sorry. Its just... they've been bickering a lot more than usual. Don't you think?" Twilight responded worriedly.

"They don't always see to eye to eye... It may last only a few days or so," Pinkie Pie said with a frown. "I hope..."
