Chapter 22: Lost Girl

Rainbow Dash's POV

Everything was an absolute blur from the second I began running away from the scene. Why did I run away? Even I wasn't so certain about it either. My speed began to decrease after realizing I had ran a good five miles from the high school and ended up at my old hangout spot - the Everfree Forest.

It wasn't the "ideal" place to go to since it was jam packed with vicious creatures, but I had found a good seat up on the tallest branch of the oldest oak tree in the forest - at least I thought it was the oldest due to its withered appearance in comparison to the others.

With a good running start, I jumped up and caught the closest branch before pulling myself up onto it, then repeating the steps until I was at a great height. The branch I chose must have been suspended at least twenty feet off the ground, but I never let the height phase me. I had always been up for daring tactics. After propping myself up against the tree and letting my left leg dangle from the branch, I began thinking about the events that unfolded.

Twilight scolding me, Gilda kissing me, and Fluttershy watching and thinking the worst because of it... I should have just talked to her about what happened. Instead, she became friends with the enemy because I failed to give caution.

The only other thought I had was that my own girlfriend was most likely contemplating about whether she should break up with me or not. A part of me knew she would end it, but a small portion believed otherwise. Then again, she dealt with so much growing up... And to have this happen to her? Unbelievable, Dash...

My cell phone vibrated in my front pocket continuously before I finally decided to see the cause.

Scootaloo.

I thought about answering the phone for a second because she was my sister, but at the same time I wasn't in the mood to speak to anyone. After a few more seconds, my heart got to me and told me to answer. After holding the phone to my ear, I sighed.

"Hello?"

"Dash, where are you? Your friends told me you vanished and gave me your backpack to hold... What happened?" Her voice sounded afraid, and the line slightly broke because of the signal at the school grounds.

"Uh... Shit happened, Scoots... I'd rather not speak about it to be honest - at least until I'm ready, you know?" I looked down as I picked at the tree bark from the branch. Scootaloo sighed in annoyance because of my response.

"Fine, whatever... Just make sure to get back home. I don't like being alone in the house after everything that happened with you know who..." She sighed once more.

"All right. Later," I finished. After ending the call, I noticed an unread text message. I pulled down the notification bar and saw that it was from Fluttershy. My chest suddenly felt like it had been stabbed. Instead of opening the text message I dismissed it and locked my phone before laying it down on my stomach I bit down on my lower lip anxiously before looking up at the sky which I noticed to have gotten cloudier and slightly darker.

A crack of thunder alarmed me and signaled that a downpour was about to commence. My eyes drifted toward the grey skies a second time, this time admiring the small rays of sunlight that escaped the clouds along with the odd shapes of the clouds. My eyes glanced back down onto my phone and when I turned it on to check the time it was already going to six in the evening.

Before I was able to lock my phone, I admired the lock screen which was of Fluttershy and I. I thought long and hard until I decided that avoiding the situation was much worse than confronting it. In fact, it was all I would ever do. Avoid and ignore bad circumstances.

The thunder above began to grow a lot more menacing than before which made me decide to get back home before the weather got much more severe. I grabbed on tightly to the branch I was sitting on and swung myself down to the branch below. Unfortunately, my landing on the second branch was bad causing me to stumble backwards and plummet straight to the ground.

As I attempted to grab hold of one of the branches, my back slid and scraped against the tree bark roughly causing me to groan in pain. Luckily, I managed to prevent myself from further injury after catching the starting branch. From there, I jumped down to the ground and tried to ignore the stinging pain that soon began to spread throughout my body.

After walking to the main entrance of the forest, I began jogging at a steady pace down the long and empty road. The thunder grew louder and was followed with a jagged string of lightning. Some light drops of cold rain began to fall from the sky as I continued to advance back to the city.

Fluttershy's POV

A storm was brewing outside and I still haven't gotten a response from Dash in over two hours and it was really worrying me. Another thing was that my mom still hadn't returned from work, but then again it was probably busy. Meanwhile I came home to find Angel knocked out on the couch. Since then I had been taking care of him while checking my phone every five minutes for a reply.

The thunder outside kept growing harsher along with rain which soon grew heavier by the second. The storm outside made me wonder what happened to Dash. Where did she run off to? What if she was with Gilda right now... Maybe that's why she hasn't answered the texts I sent her.

My lips formed a frown at the thought, but I had a gut feeling that what Coco Pommel told me was the truth. I really shouldn't be over thinking like this. She had been nothing but understanding and loving toward me...

I cradled Angel in my arms and got up to lay him down in his bedroom. After tucking him in for the evening, I walked back into the living room and switched on the television to the news. Immediately, the weather broadcast popped up.

"... Thunder and lightning storms are travelling from Ponyville to the Crystal Empire and will remain in those areas for the night. Temperatures are expected to drop down to seventy degrees in Canterlot, sixty degrees in the Crystal Empire, seventy-six in Ponyville..." the weatherman continued to list the various temperatures from a few cities before I decided to turn off the television and make myself a bowl of cereal.

Of course, I took my phone with me to the kitchen just in case I got a call from Rainbow or my mom. I checked the time on my phone and saw that it was already seven thirty-five. I sighed in disbelief and began to eat my cereal at the table with the storm as background noise. Once I finished, I placed the dirty bowl in the sink and left to my bedroom.

I closed the door behind me and turned on my phone to check the messages.

Can we talk about what happened? I need some sort of closure about it...

Dashie...

Why aren't you answering... If you don't want to be with me, please just tell me. If not in person, then through here or even a phone call. Please don't leave me in the dark.

It's been a while since I first texted, and I know I should stop texting, but I'm just so worried about you... I promise, I'm not mad. Please just answer your phone

*CUE THE MUSIC*

Reading the text messages made me get a lump in my throat and the urge to cry was greater than before. I shut off my phone and placed it on my dresser to charge. Right when I was about to get dressed for the night, some loud knocks were heard on my window. I grew fearful and even looked for some sort of defense until the knocking grew ever so soft.

I walked towards the window and moved the curtains to find myself staring directly into the ruby eyes of my lover. Rainbow was soaking wet under the pouring rain and had her arms wrapped around herself tightly to keep warm. I stood there frozen as her gaze grew hurtful and even sad. She brought up a hand and placed it against the glass. A few tears escaped the corners of my eyes as I aligned my hand with hers.

The lightning in the distance along with the thunder made me snap out of this trance, thus making me run out of my bedroom to unlock the front door. Right away, I found Dash walking toward the steps of my home as she entered. I closed the door behind her and locked it before pulling her into a long and deep embrace as tears began to fall from my cheeks.

I didn't even care if she was dripping wet and freezing cold. All that mattered was that we were here together. Rainbow wrapped her arms around my waist like she always did when we would hug. I loved it. It was my favorite thing in the world and I almost wanted to slap myself for sending her that text message of wanting to leave me or not.

I couldn't risk losing all of this. I couldn't risk losing what we had.

"I missed you so much..." I said between sobs and held her even tighter as she did the same. No words were said after and I grew worried that maybe she came to actually end it. But her actions proved otherwise.

Rainbow pulled away and pushed strands of my pink hair away from my face before bringing her lips down on mine passionately. Once again, fireworks went off in my head and the spark in my heart grew brighter as it began to beat even faster than before.

After the kiss, we pulled away for air as we both rested our foreheads against each other. With a shaky hand, Rainbow stroked my cheek gently and kissed my nose. Coco Pommel was right. She's too loyal to do something like that after all. Even if she did do it, there wouldn't be this much passion put into one kiss.

We let go of each other reluctantly so I could bring her a fresh towel to help her dry up in the bathroom that was conveniently located across my room.

"C-Can I borrow a shirt and maybe some shorts?" Dash asked in a hush. That was the first time I heard her speak so softly. I nodded in response and went back to my bedroom to fetch the Blink-182 shirt she once owned along with a pair of black basketball shorts.

When I returned, Rainbow Dash pulled off her damp shirt causing me to blush furiously and even squeak in embarrassment. However, when I returned my gaze, her back was to me and a large fresh scrape was visible. It was a reddish color and even had some blood still oozing out.

Right when she was about to put on the shirt, I stopped her and gaped at the wound, "W-What happened to you?"

She was silent for a moment, "I fell off a tree... I tried getting hold of a branch, but my back got dragged against the tree before I fell to the ground."

I furrowed my brows and ordered her to keep her back bare. I opened up the drawers beneath the sink and looked around trying to fish out the first aid kit. Once I found it, Dash's eyes grew fearful for the first time and she flinched at my touch.

"Y-You really don't have to do that. I don't feel it anymore." Dash said as I opened up the white box.

"Well, since it doesn't hurt, you shouldn't feel this then," I said with a small attitude. I grabbed an extra towel and poured some rubbing alcohol all over and ignored Rainbow's silly excuses as I pressed the damp towel directly on her back.

Dash clamped a hand over her mouth tightly and used the other to slam her fist on the sink. She cursed under her breath as I continued to apply the alcohol to the rest of her injuries before finally allowing her to change into the clothes I provided her with. She weakly pulled on the shirt and sat there looking worn out.

Once she was all changed up, I grabbed her wet clothing and threw them in the laundry to get freshened up. Afterwards, I walked back to my bedroom only to find Rainbow Dash laying on her back with a painful expression on her face.

"Lay on your side instead, Dashie..."

"No... I like being on my back," she responded quietly. She closed her eyes and tried to rest herself up for little as I began changing into my pajamas in the bathroom. When I returned, Dash seemed to be asleep, and I decided that we should talk about what happened the following morning. I switched off the light, and climbed into bed with her.

At first, I was laying on my side facing away from her because I wasn't sure if she was comfortable sleeping with me or not. Instead, I felt Rainbow's arm slide beneath me and pull towards her so my head was now resting on her chest, and my leg draping over hers. My arm rested on her chest as I played with the wet strands of her hair as I began drifting into sleep.

Before I completely knocked out, I felt a small kiss on the top of my head as Dash's grip around me tightened.
