Chapter 19: Anxiety

Rainbow Dash's POV

"So... How are you and the new girl doing, Dash?" Spitfire asked me, nudging my shoulder with her own. My face flushed pink, and I looked up at the clouds looming over us carefully. The cotton white clouds covered the sun greatly, and everyone was thankful for that.

"Her name's Fluttershy... Quit calling her 'new girl'... And we're doing amazing - how about you and Soarin'?" I asked with a smirk. Spitfire smiled smugly then shrugged and slipped both hands into the pockets of her varsity jacket.

"Doing all right," She said it quietly. I automatically knew something was up. Usually Spitfire would say it all cheerfully... But I guess today was different - and I was going to get to the bottom of it!

"Doesn't sound like you guys are doing 'all right.'" I said, adding air quotations. Spitfire sighed then sat down on the grass which was on the inside of the track. Now I knew for sure something bad was going on. I instantly followed her movements and took a seat directly in front of her. After pulling my knees up to my chest, my eyes fell onto the girl in front of me.

She refused to say anything further, and began to pull away at the strands of emerald grass beneath us both. The closer I inspected her, I realized that she was on the verge of crying. Her hands were trembling madly, and she cleared her throat and finally looked up at me.

"I'm pregnant." The second those two words came slithering out of her mouth, the tears came pouring out like a waterfall. She buried her face into her hands and continued to cry, while I just sat there with my jaw hanging open, "I'm p-pregnant... T-Two and a half months a-already..."

"A-Are you sure...?" I asked her hesitantly. She looked up with puffy eyes that read several different emotions.

"Yes..." She wiped her nose and tears away with the sleeve of her jacket and sighed deeply, "... This wasn't the first time we had sex... We always used protection, but I guess the condom broke... I only figured it out because I didn't get my period two months in a row! I didn't pay much attention since I thought it would come later... But then I started throwing up constantly, and I finally got the guts to buy a pregnancy test at the drug store... I b-bought three of them and all them came out positive... I don't know what to do, Dash!"

"Does Soarin' know about this?" I asked her with a concerned look on my face. She didn't say anything and instead turned to the side as more tears came pouring down. Well... That answers that question. I sighed partially from being annoyed by the fact that she didn't tell her own boyfriend, and of the fact that I had no clue what to do either. I was just as clueless as her at this point...

"I know, I know... I need to tell him... But what if he just leaves me after I tell him? I'm terrified, Dash... I really am... And what will happen once I give birth? What's going to happen then? I'm already on bad terms with my parents as it is... What if they kick me out? Where am I going to -"

"You'll stay with me. You know how huge my house is... If you want, you can already start packing up your things. You've been my friend for years, and I'm totally all right with you staying... And frankly... I'm tired of the bullshit your parents have been throwing at you for a long time already," I rubbed Spitfire's back in circles and gave her a reassuring smile. Her amber eyes welled up in tears, and soon she threw herself forward and hugged me tightly. I gladly returned the hug.

"Thank you so much..." She said under her breath and let out a sigh of relief. We remained hugging each other until a thought came bursting into my mind. I gently pushed her away and looked into her eyes.

"No problem... But first, you have to confront Soarin' about it," I said in a serious tone. Spitfire's gaze grew fearful and she began to shake her head before I stopped her. "I'll be there with you if needed."

There was a long pause before Spitfire finally nodded. I held my arms out for her again as she came in for another long hug. A part of me knew that Soarin' would stay, but yet... Another part kept nagging away saying that he was going to be like the other guys at this school and just... Leave.

I get that Soarin' has been my best friend since I was a kid... But if he does end up leaving, there's no way I'll ever forgive him. It's his child after all... He shouldn't leave the relationship and his own child as well. I understand that the news will surely make him very uncomfortable or even angry... But it isn't necessary to leave someone all alone - vulnerable, and possibly left emotionally or mentally scarred. Spitfire didn't need to go through that especially. She had enough problems at home as it is.

Her parents were the strictest couple I ever met. They wanted Spitfire to be like her older sister, Lightning Dust, who decided to attend a university up in Manehattan to fulfill her sporting dream. As far as I knew, Lightning was pretty much named valedictorian in Canterlot High two years ago when she graduated.

Spitfire was pretty much the opposite, and never really gave a damn about academics until our end of course exams in May - that was when she really hit the books, and gave her classes the full attention. Her parents had always been hard on her since junior high. It was that time when she began skipping with friends (including me) and pretty much failed the majority of her classes. She had always been compared with Lightning which was the main reason they stopped getting along, and partly the reason why Lightning moved away. Don't get me wrong, I still communicate to Lightning Dust since she's actually pretty cool and has the same interests as me as well, but as far as her and Spitfire's relationship... Let's just say it hasn't gotten better.

"Thanks Dash... I don't know what I would do without you," She said through tears. I reassuringly rubbed her back in circles and let out a short sigh. Junior year is getting interesting without a doubt.

Fluttershy's POV

"... So you're dating Rainbow Dash, huh?" Gilda asked me curiously in a hush during a lecture Miss Cheerilee was giving about bullying. I felt my cheeks heat up, and I nodded in response. The girl beside me let out a chuckle and twirled her pencil in her fingers. She looked as if she was thinking about something, but I couldn't exactly read her at all whatsoever.

"I am... Why the sudden question?" I responded, slightly concerned. Gilda shrugged and messed with the lavender colored bangs that drooped down her face.

"I was just curious. I haven't exactly spoken to Rainbow Cra - Dash - in a couple years, that's all," She quickly corrected herself, and already I was picking up something off. They haven't spoken in a long time... She transferred here from a different school... Rainbow has never brought Gilda up before besides other friends...

"Did something happen?" I questioned unknowingly. Gilda's amber eyes met mine for a split second before she tugged on the collar of her brown leather jacket roughly. As I was about to take the question back, she interjected and spoke a bit louder than before.

"We used to date."

"O-Oh my..." I wasn't exactly sure how to handle the situation... Well, now I knew why Rainbow never brought her up before. But then again, shouldn't she have told me about her? I mean... Doesn't she know that Gilda moved here? And if so... Why hasn't she said -

"I'd be careful if I were you." Gilda said bluntly with a blank expression. My gaze fell upon Gilda once more and noticed that she was staring straight ahead, pretending to be into the lecture. I wanted to ask more questions, but by the time I was even about to open my mouth the bell had rung.

Half the class, including Gilda, stormed out of the room after Miss Cheerilee bid her farewell's to us all. I bit my lower lip hard and stuffed my notebook and pen inside my backpack before getting up to walk out. Several thoughts about what Gilda had said echoed through my mind and I was stopped halfway down the hall by someone grabbing my shoulder and spinning me around. Instantly, they wrapped an arm around my waist causing me to blush furiously. Rainbow Dash.

"H-Hi..." I stammered out nervously. Dash chuckled then gave me a short but sweet kiss.

"Hey. How come you were in such a hurry? You usually wait outside for me, remember?" Rainbow said with a smile. All these thoughts made me forget about that. She always walked me to class... Gosh, that sentence was still running through my mind! "You okay...?"

"I... Just schoolwork is stressing me out, that's all," I lied, and turned away from her stare. I immediately felt awful for lying, but I couldn't just bring up an ex girlfriend! That's something she has to do on her own... Right?

"Oh... Well, I can help you out with some work if you want? I don't mind it all," Rainbow replied with a slightly saddened look in her eyes. She probably knows you're lying to her face, Fluttershy. Way to go!

"No, it's okay. It's mostly just research. I can do it on my own," I said, lying again. I bit my cheek and felt Rainbow's grip on my hand tighten a bit. She moved forward a few steps further ahead from me then stood in front of me, causing me to collide into her. Using her hand, she lifted my head up by my chin, then stared into my eyes with a concerned look.

"Are you sure that you're okay? Because... It... Honestly seems like something else is bothering you," Rainbow said worriedly, and let out a short sigh. As the other students swept by casually chatting away with their friends, we were huddled closely near the wall. Her ruby eyes continued to stare into mine deeply, and right when I was about to speak...

"Get to class, you two!" A male teacher called out to us loudly causing a few students to stare over at us.

"... I'll tell you later, okay?" I muttered to Dash before tiptoeing a bit to kiss her on the cheek. She slightly blushed and nodded.

Afterwards, we both parted ways and began walking to our next period. All the while, I continuously thought back to what Gilda had said to me previously. I swear, I'll never get a break from it for the rest of the day...

Quick A/N: I'm so sorry for taking an eternity for publishing this newest chapter. It was a bit shorter than the other chapters, but at least it's something, right? Well, I really hope you can forgive me for taking so long... xc
