The end
(Again, please note that this part contains mentions of death, so if you're upset easily, please either don't read this part or be mindful of that fact, and once again feel free to talk to me. Thank you)
"What was it like finally saying goodbye to him?" Alexa asked quietly. I gulped.
"It was by far the hardest thing that I've ever had to do. I've never known anything else apart from Luke, and suddenly, he was gone." I choked.
I sat by Luke's hospital bed, clutching his bony hand. The door opened and Kiera, Leanne and Charlie rushed in.
"Are we too late?" Kiera gulped.
"No, he's still with us." I nodded, tears in my eyes. They returned it as they stood by his bed.
"Baby." I whispered, gently shaking Luke's shoulder. He slowly opened his eyes that were still bluer than the sea. He smiled slightly at me before turning his head to see the kids.
"Hey, gang." He smiled.
"Hey, dad." Leanne nodded, giving him a small smile but it quickly died.
"Why are you all crying?" he chuckled weakly.
"Why do you think, dad?" Charlie spoke. Luke sighed.
"It's okay. I'm not in pain, and this is exactly how I want to go, surrounded by my family. There's nothing more that I could ask for." He reassured before looking at Kiera.
"You always looked so much like your mum." He smiled.
"Thanks, dad." She chuckled, trying to hide the choke in her voice.
"You're so beautiful, my darling. I love you so much, I loved you so much from the moment that we brought you home from the hospital. Don't you ever forget how much I love you and how proud I am of you." He spoke.
"I won't, dad, I won't." She promised. He nodded before looking at Leanne.
"You were always quite the trouble maker, but we loved you no less for it." He smiled, making her chuckle.
"Say hello to that baby girl that Lisa is expecting for me, and tell her every day how much her great-grandad loves her." He nodded.
"Of course." She spoke. He turned to Charlie.
"You're the spitting image of your uncle Jack, you know that, right?" he chuckled.
"I've been told." He smiled.
"I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't have survived those first few months, but I thank the gods every day for the that fact you did." He spoke. Charlie nodded and looked down.
"Take care of your sisters and your mum for me, okay, my little monster?" he smiled.
"Of course, dad." He nodded. Luke returned his gaze to me.
"And you. Oh, my precious Y/N." he whispered. I bit my lip as tears ran down my face.
"I knew that you were the one from the moment that I saw you. Thank you for giving me three wonderful children, thank you for giving me a life worth living, thank you for giving me you." He nodded. I returned it.
"I love you so much, my baby girl." He smiled.
"I love you too." I whispered before gently leaning in and pressing our lips together. He returned it, holding my face with his weak hand. My heart skipped a beat as I felt him gently exhale his last breath against my lips. The heart monitor flat-lined. Tears flooded out of the kids' eyes as Charlie pulled Kiera and Leanne into his body, hugging them tightly. I just looked at Luke, at his face and at his closed eyes that looked so at peace.
"Goodbye, my love." I whispered as I let the tears run down my face.
The audience sat in complete silence as tears fell from my eyes.
"I miss him every day. So do our children. But it was his time to go, and he was surrounded by the ones that he loved when he died." I nodded, looking down at my hands.
"Well, that's good to hear." Alexa spoke gently. I gave her a small smile.
"Is there anything else that you'd like to add before we end this interview, Mrs Hemmings?" she asked. I nodded and looked back at her.
"You know, Luke gave me a life that I thought I could only dream of. He gave me everything I had ever wanted and more, and I thanked him for that every day. He gave me two beautiful daughters and an amazing son. He gave me a life that you see in the movies. He never failed to make me happy and make me feel loved." I choked. Alexa nodded, looking at me sympathetically.
"We went through hell and back together. Everything that could have possibly been thrown at us was, but we made it out alive, and we made it out stronger each time. We had a fair share of fights, we had a fair share of near breakups, at times, it was awful living with him and I'm sure he'd say the same about me if he was still here, but do you know what, Alexa?" I asked.
"What?" she asked. I smiled slightly, a final tear rolling down my face.
"I wouldn't have changed a thing."
