The accident
"So, you had a good honeymoon?" Alexa asked.
"It was amazing. Luke had planned out the entire month and it was truly brilliant." I smiled. She returned it.
"We actually have that photo of Luke and Kiera that you took at the hospital, as you posted it on social media after you took it." Alexa spoke.
"Yeah, when we got home, I decided to post it, as it was the first photo that showed Luke holding Kiera." I spoke.
"Here it is." She nodded, looking at the screen. Everyone awed as my post flashed on the screen, showing the photo with the caption:
Daddy and daughter together at last.
Tears pricked my eyes at the sight of Luke smiling down at Kiera, who was asleep against his shoulder in the picture.
"So, the next few years were difficult for the two of you." Alexa spoke.
"Yeah. With him touring a lot of the time and having a two-year-old daughter to look after, the relationship got pulled pretty tight and the accident only made that worse." I nodded.
"And then you became pregnant again." Alexa stated.
"Yes. A lot happened that year." I gulped.
"Ironically, though, his accident saved our marriage." I admitted. Alexa's eyebrows furrowed.
"How so?" she asked. I looked down.
"Our marriage had been struggling for a while after Kiera turned one. And one day, I came home to find the divorce papers on the table." I admitted quietly.
"I'm home." I yelled as I shut the front door.
"And we're in the kitchen!" Luke shouted back. I walked in and smiled as Luke sat with Kiera on his lap as she stared at the picture book sat in front of her on the table.
"Hello, my princess." I smiled as I kissed her head.
"And hello, my king." I chuckled at Luke.
"You're such a dork." He smiled before kissing me. I returned it before putting my bag down. I put my bag down on the table and my eyes drifted to the paperwork. My eyes widened as I read the words "divorce settlement" across the page. My throat dried.
"Luke, what's this?" I choked, looking at him. He sighed and stood up.
"Kiera, go play in your room." He spoke as he put her down. She squealed as she toddled off. I stared at Luke.
"Divorce papers?" I asked. He sighed and rubbed his hands over his face.
"I just...I was just looking to see what they entailed." He shrugged.
"They entail you no longer being married to me." I scoffed. He nodded and looked down.
"Are you really so unhappy that you want a divorce?" I choked.
"No, babe, I'm happy, it's just that we've been in a really rocky place recently and it didn't really show any signs of improvement, so I thought that it was better to be prepared." He spoke.
"Did you decide to get these before or after I told you that I'm pregnant again?" I scoffed. He looked at me.
"Do you honestly think that I was considering a divorce because we're having another baby? I'm over the moon, babe! I've wanted another baby from the moment that Kiera was born!" he exclaimed. I choked and shook my head.
"We've not been married for two years and you're already ready to pull the plug." I choked.
"No, if I was ready to pull the plug, those papers would be sighed. They're not signed, babe. And they never will be." He reassured. I choked and shook my head before walking out of the kitchen.
I sat on the sofa, watching TV as Kiera sat on the floor, playing with her toys. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I stood up and answered it. My eyes widened as Calum stood there, panting.
"Calum, hey." I smiled.
"You need to come with me right now." He puffed.
"What? Why? Where's Luke?" I asked.
"Luke's been in a car accident." He admitted. My eyes widened.
"Oh my god." I choked.
"He's at the hospital but you and Kiera need to come with me." He nodded. I returned it before putting on my coat and rushing to Kiera.
"Come on, baby girl, we need to go see daddy." I spoke as I picked her up and rested her on my hip before rushing to Calum.
We rushed into the hospital and went to the front desk.
"Which room is Luke Hemmings in?" I gulped.
"Who are you?" she asked.
"I'm his wife." I nodded.
"Room thirty-six, down the hall, to the left." I nodded a thanks before rushing down there with Calum. I opened the door and gasped at the sight. Luke was lying in the bed, unconscious with an oxygen tube clipped to his septum and too many tubes to count leading into his arms.
"Oh my god." I choked as I looked at him.
"Daddy?" Kiera asked quietly.
"Y/N, maybe I should wait outside with Kiera." Calum spoke. I nodded.
"Okay, you're coming with uncle Calum." He smiled at her as he took her from my arms. She returned his smile as they left the room. I rushed to Luke's side and took a seat.
"Babe, I'm here, I'm here." I choked, taking his hand and pressing my lips against his knuckles as I let my tears fall onto the bed.
