Charlie Hemmings
"You gave birth to your son, Charlie Hemmings, on the 30th of March 2027." Alexa stated.
"I did." I nodded.
"And when was he due?" she asked.
"He was due the 16th of June." I spoke, making her eyes widen and the audience gasp.
"Wow. So, nearly three months premature. That must have been hard." She said.
"It was. Since he was born so early, he was very small, and we weren't sure if he was going to survive his first few months. Between Luke and I, there always had to be someone at home and someone at the hospital, so we were apart a lot for the first couple of months of Charlie's life." I nodded.
I opened my eyes as I felt something trickle down my legs. I sat up and looked down at the covers to see them wet. My eyebrows furrowed. My eyes widened as I felt a sharp pang in my bump, making me hiss. I shook Luke's shoulder.
"Baby, wake up." I mumbled.
"What's up?" he yawned as he slowly opened his eyes.
"I think that my water just broke." I gulped. His eyes widened as he sat up.
"But...you're only seven months pregnant..."
"Yes, but the sheets are wet, and I'm having what feel like contractions." I spoke.
"Jesus, okay, I'm going to get Calum over here." He nodded before picking up his phone and putting it to his ear.
"Hi, mate, sorry, I know that it's early, but I think Y/N's in labour." He gulped.
"I know that she's only seven months, which is why I need you to get your ass over here for the girls while we go to the hospital to see what's happening with our son." He choked slightly.
"Thank you. Okay, see you soon." He nodded before hanging up.
"One last push, Mrs Hemmings, come on." The midwife encouraged.
"Come on, babe, you can do this." Luke spoke, gripping my hand. I screamed out as I pushed one last time.
"Okay, baby Hemmings is here." The midwife nodded as she held our baby.
"Why isn't he crying?" I asked quietly. She didn't say anything, instead, she just rushed him to the side. I looked at Luke.
"Why isn't he crying?" I asked again. He looked at me.
"I don't know, but he's very small." He choked. I returned it. The midwife turned around, holding our baby wrapped in a blue blanket.
"Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Hemmings, it's a baby boy." She smiled as she put him carefully into my arms. Luke and I looked down at him.
"Why isn't he crying? Is he alive?" I choked.
"Yes, he is, he's just quite weak, but he's alive." She reassured. Tears left my eyes and I nodded before looking back down at him.
"Hello, Charlie Robert Hemmings." Luke whispered. I smiled at him as the door opened and a doctor walked in.
"Hello, Mr and Mrs Hemmings," he smiled as he stood at the foot of my bed. Luke nodded towards him.
"As I believe, you were only seven months pregnant when you went into labour?" he asked.
"Yes." I nodded.
"Okay. If a baby arrives more than a month before they're meant to, we put them into a special cot that provides them with the necessary equipment to help them survive the first few months and help get them stronger. I'm afraid, due to how early your son arrived, we need to get him into one of these cots immediately." The doctor spoke. I looked at Luke.
"Of course. Do whatever you have to do to help our son survive." He nodded.
"Mrs Hemmings." The doctor spoke, walking towards me. I ignored him, looking down at Charlie.
"You're going to be okay, baby boy. I love you so much." I whispered before leaning down and pressing my lips against his head.
"Babe, it's time to let him go." Luke spoke softly. I nodded and reluctantly placed Charlie into the doctor's arms.
"He's going to be fine, Mr and Mrs Hemmings, I will do everything in my power to make sure that he's okay." The doctor reassured before leaving the room with Charlie.
"My baby." I choked.
"He's going to be okay, love, I promise." Luke nodded, pulling me into his arms.
I walked through the hospital corridors, Leanne on my hip and Kiera walking beside me with her hand in mine. We walked into the nursery and looked around. I spotted Luke. I smiled as I saw him leaning against the plastic lid that sat over Charlie's cot, just looking at him.
"Daddy!" Leanne squealed. Luke looked at us and smiled as he stood up.
"Hello, my princesses!" he laughed as Kiera ran up to him and he lifted her up. I put Leanne down and let her run to him too before he picked her up. He kissed both of them before turning to me.
"How's Charlie?" I asked.
"He's okay. He's getting stronger." He nodded.
"That's good." I sighed.
"Yeah. I'm going to head home, I'll see you in two days." He spoke before kissing me. I returned it, holding his cheek.
"See you, babe." I nodded as he left with the girls. I sat down next to Charlie's cot and looked at him.
"You're okay, baby boy. You're okay." I whispered.
