chapter two,
esqueleto

With a slow open of her weary eyes, Mackenzie awoke the same way she had gone to sleep the previous day. She starts to fully awaken, sits up, and rubs her eyes.

"Kenzie, you're gonna be late." Demetri storms in, tapping away at his laptop.

"Get out." She sourly groaned, pushing the hair from out of her face.

"Okay, okay. And that Eli – is why you don't wake the beast." On the other end of the FaceTime, Demetri reminds the boy.

"Go away." Eventually, her brother leaves after Mackenzie gives him a warning and throws her pink hearted pillow at him.

Mackenzie was able to get ready quick enough to catch a ride from her mother. While her brother was lost in his own world, she read Little Women while seated in the front.

They arrived to school on time and began their usual day. After a few classes, the small group met up in the cafeteria but now Miguel sitting with them.

Usually at lunch the day is the same — Yasmine and her minions making fun of either Mackenzie, Eli or Demetri. But today, the counselor had come in and a had a speech prepared.

"Cyber bullying is no laughing matter. Sending a cruel message to someone online can be just as hurtful as saying it to their face."

Mackenzie sits back in her chair as the principal begins to talk to the students in the cafeteria room.

"I'm not gonna name names, but the other day a mother called me up because her son was crying after some kids online made fun of his facial deformity."

Whispers and stares spread around as soon as she spoke, and all eyes appeared onto Eli. He slowly looks around before covering his upper lip.

Without any hesitation, Kenzie reaching for Eli's hand but he quickly flitches away. She lifts her legs up to her chest as Counselor Blatt continues her announcement.

"You know, if you're sick of getting bullied my karate dojo's looking for recruits." Miguel reminds Eli.

"Yeah, right. You hear that, Eli? A little karate training, and you're gonna kick some major ass." Demetri taunts.

"Dude, shut up." Mackenzie frowns as she throws a french fry at her brother. "And Kenzie, the dojo is accepting girls too." Miguel adds raising an eyebrow towards her way.

"No way. I am a proud lover, not a fighter."

Counselor Blatt soon skips to the next topic being the halloween dance. Mackenzie had always loved Halloween. It's the one day you're allowed to be someone else. Also you get candy.

The girl stands in front of the mirror, inspecting her costume. She normally dressed up as something that wasn't as revealing, but why not try something different?

She threw her freshly curled locks into a high ponytail, then carefully placing her bunny ears on top of her head.

Mackenzie grabs her phone before exiting her room. "Lola Bunny? Please, you're gonna be matching with Yasmine." Demetri taunts.

"Shut up. What are you even supposed to be, a wizard?" Kenzie scrunched her brows, trying to figure out what his costume was.

"That's very insulting." Demetri throws a hand to his chest, acting like it hurt him, to which Kenzie rolls her eyes at.

The school gym was covered in decorations and lights flashed throughout the building. Students were dressed up in all different costumes. Some recognisable and some... not.

All students were awkwardly standing around, waiting for someone to do something. Demetri and Eli took next to each other.

Mackenzie had finally arrived after catching a ride from her mother. As she entered the gym, for some reason all eyes were on her. Especially Yasmine's deathly cold stare.

"Is there something wrong with my costume?" Mackenzie frowns, as she tries to check for something wrong on her. "What did i tell you."

Demetri crosses his arms, trying to prove that he was right. "Told me what?" Mackenzie genuinely thinks.

He raised his eyes hinting at something but yet Mackenzie couldn't understand — and wasn't bothered by it. "Whatever. Where's the punch?"

Mackenzie asks the boys who point over to a spider webbed themed table. Once Mackenzie begins to turn around, Yasmine throws a red cup of punch over her costume.

"Whoops, sorry." Yasmine fake pouts as her and Moon laugh with each other. Mackenzie storms off crying into the hallways. She wipes away her tears as tries to find the bathroom. She red punch stain began to trail around the fabric, ruining her costume.

"Great." Mackenzie stormed off into the bathrooms. Tears slowly rolling down her lightly blushed cheeks. She had worked so hard to get out of her comfort zone and Yasmine had to ruin it.

Her phone buzzes in her pocket, as she opens the notification it was a photo of Aisha eating Cheetos while standing at the buffet area.

A a pig filter was on her — and The Buffet Table is Under Attack !! written underneath. This post was sent to the entire school and had Yasmine written all over it.

Mackenzie could practically hear everyone laughing, and all she could do was feel sorry. She never really never Aisha Robinson but she always felt bad for her — Aisha's only best friend was Sam Larusso, who ended up becoming best friends with the meanest girl in the valley.

Finally Kenzie managed to clean the stain with the light red color visible. She exits the bathroom, focused on fixing her clothes. As she was fixated on her clothing - she bumps into Eli and Demetri.

"Ow." She raises her palm to her head, "Why are you nerds running."

"Kyler. He caught us. And now Miguel's stuck in there with them." Demetri whines out of breath.

"And you guys just left him in there!?" Mackenzie frowns, her voice raised.

The two boys stay silent, she runs off into the boys bathroom and sees Miguel lying on the floor.

He had blood all on his face and laid on the ground in pain. "Holy shit, Miguel." She rushes over.

Mackenzie kneels down, the cold tiles pressing against her bare knees. A blonde man quickly runs in after her holding a couple of yellow flyers.

"Miguel!"

The man says joining Mackenzie on the ground. He begins to lift the poor boy off the ground. "Is he going to be okay?" She asks.

Mackenzies voice slowly shakes, never being in this position before. She hated violence with a passion. In that moment — she froze. Mackenzie Alexopoulos didn't know what to do.
