chapter twenty five,
you treat me like a stranger

Mackenzie didn't have many friend, and that's was known. It was pathetic that her only true friend was her own brother.

Of course she had Sam by her side but it wasn't the same. She just wanted her best friend back.

She had no choice but to sit with her brother and Yasmine as well as Moon. He had built their earth science project which was shockingly built with legos.

"I'm ready to go back to a world where we don't have to talk on a regular basis." Yasmine scoffed at the twins.

"Don't worry, same here." Kenzie sarcastically smiled as she picked at the food in front of her.

"Maybe we could, you know, meet in the middle?" Demetri causally asked, leaning back in his seat. "Like a sexual venn diagram."

Yasmine and Mackenzie groaned at Demetri's words while Moon laughed at it.

"So what's under the sheet?" Moon couldn't help but ask.

"I'm glad you asked." Demetri stood up, and uncovers the project. "Behold.. what scientists believe to be the Valley when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Go ahead, press the hadrosaur egg." He told Yasmine.

She pressed the nest of eggs that was actually a button which made smoke rise from the volcano. Yasmine and Moon smile at the sight, "Not bad." Yasmine grinned, "My parents may not have to pay for my A this time."

"Oh your parents will never have to pay for an A again." Demetri said with a straight face.

"Guys, it's not even that amazing. Remember when I made literal Venom." Kenzie added, adjusting in her seat.

"Let's be real, I've always been better at this stuff." Demetri nodded his head with sly grin on his face.

Make rise shook her head and rolled her eyes at her brother. Out of nowhere, a soccer ball came flying at the table, ruining the project.

Yasmine, Moon and Kenzie all flinch as they look at the destroyed volcano. "Oh, I'm sorry man. Looks like my ball just got away from me." Hawk laughed as he got thrown the ball back to him.

"That took me three weeks to build."

"Eh, took my ball three second to destroy."

"Do you have another one?" Yasmine asked worried.

Mackenzie glared over to Hawk and almost jumped out of her seat. "What is your problem?" She fumed at him.

"Me? I have no problem." Hawk responded slyly with a shrug.

"Then why are you being such a dick?" Mackenzie countered, crossing her arms in annoyance.

"Because it's so fun." Hawk smirked, "It's even more fun when you get all angry like this."

Mackenzie clenched her jaw, she didn't want to give him the reaction that he wanted. "You better back off."

"Yeah, like you'll start anything, princess."

Mackenzie shoves Hawk back into the group behind him.

"What's going on here, Miss Alexopoulos?" Blatt raised her voice, "You know our guidelines against physical contact."

Mackenzie began to open her mouth but closed it.

"Did she enter your personal bubble without your verbal consent?" Blatt asked Hawk.

"Yeah, she definitely triggered me in my safe space." Hawk put on an act making Kenzie throw a look at him.

"What are you talking about?" Demetri walked up to the pair, "He started by destroying my science project."

"That was an accident! You probably shouldn't bring your toys to school anyway." Hawk says.

"I don't want excuses. I just want to be able to respect each other." Blatt claimed everyone down.

"Where was the respect when the crazy bitch Tory went off at Sam?" Kenzie brought up the fight.

"Miss Alexopoulos, don't make me call your mother for your poor language." Blatt warned.

"Guys, we should stop the aggression. Micro and macro." Hawk spoke a quiet tone.

"Oh, give me a break." Kenzie spat at him.

"Hey! What did I just say, Miss Alexopoulos." Blatt frowned, "Consider this a warning." She turned to Demetri, "And get these Legos off the ground, someone could get hurt."

Kenzie angrily sighed as Blatt walked away. "For you pansies." She watched as Hawk came closer to her face, "No space is safe."

Mackenzie had never ever been a sporty girl. Or even just an active person in general. She was the type to sit in the nurses office during P.E but Sam had encouraged her to join them this period.

She tugged at her t-shirt trying to adjust in the uncomfortable uniform they had to wear. She squirmed around trying to feel a little better.

"These gym shorts pinch in all the wrong places." Demetri groans as he pulls up his black socks.

"C'mon, have a little school spirit." Sam laughed at Demetri.

"Oh yeah. Go Mountain Lions!" Demetri roared . "Please don't do that ever again." Kenzie cringed at her brother.

As Kenzie and the others on the team glared to the side, they watched as Hawk and his team walked, receiving cheers and applause.

"I wish we could do something about those cretins." Demetri spat. "We can." Sam spoke.

"How?" Kenzie asked, her brows furrowed. "Counsellor Blatt will literally give us dentition if we look at them the wrong way."

Sam looked both ways, "I don't see her anywhere, do you?" Everyone looked around as well not noticing her anywhere.

"Besides, what's a soccer game without a little physical contact?" Sam held her hands on her hips with a wide grin. "They think we're doormat. Let's prove them wrong."

The game started very soon, and very quickly both teams were eager to win. Sam knocked over a boy as he ran with the ball, as he fell to the floor she ran over him.

Kenzie stood on the soccer field awkwardly, not knowing where to go or what to do. The rules were simple and easy to follow and yet they still got jumbled up in her brain.

"Kenz!" She heard Sam call out to ask she was prepared to kick the ball to her.

"No!" Kenzie waved her arms around, "I'm not open!"

Sam nodded and without any hesitation she kicked the soccer ball out to Kenzie who miraculously was able to stop it. The girl looked around to see if anyone noticed the miracle but was soon yelled at to kick the ball by her teammates.

"Oh shit." She muttered in realization. Mackenzie ran with the ball, praying that she wouldn't fall over or get knocked down.

Mackenzie continued to run with the ball, as she did with too much confidence the ball stolen by Hawk who kept a big smirk on his face.

    "Better catch up, princess."

Kenzie huffed with annoyance as she stood there while everyone else chased after Hawk.

The day ended badly for the Miyagi-Do students, they waiting outside of the principals office while Hawk put on his pity act for her.

"I can't believe this shit." Sam scoffed.

"Agreed." Mackenzie added as she stood against the wall.

The door opens to reveal Hawk and Blatt exiting the room. "Caldwell, Johnson, Rickenberger. The three of you and Eli are free to go."

"Unbelievable." Demetri shook his head.

"You gotta be kidding me!" Sam exclaimed angrily. "What about us?"

"The rest of you will be receiving rehabilitative, not punitive Saturday detention." Blatt pointed at the group.

"Detention? Oh, great, there goes another blemish on my permanent record." Demetri complained, throwing his head back.

"This is so fucking sexist!" Mackenzie spat.

"Miss Alexopoulos, I guarantee you this has nothing to do with gender and that is not how we express ourselves here." Blatt frowned. "I think you need two weekends of rehabilitative detention."

Kenzie scoffed, "This is such bullshit!" She kicked the locker door before storming away.

"She's not technically my sister." Demetri spoke as if anything he could say would change the situation.
