𝟎𝟐𝟒. if i had two nickels
chapter twenty four,
if i had two nickels
If Mackenzie Alexopoulos had a nickel for every time she had made Miguel Diaz a get well basket, she had have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.
She showed up to the hospital with the hamper, she struggled to press the elevator keys whilst holding the basket but ultimately made her way to his room.
As she passed a corner, she had run into Sam. "Hey!" She smiled at her as they both stopped.
"Hey," Sam softly smiled back, glancing at the basket in Mackenzie's hand. "You coming to visit him too?"
"Yeah," Kenzie nodded. "I bought a few things for him." She looked down in the basket. "I would've brought more but it was getting heavy."
Sam laughed. "It's alright, I'm sure he'll love whatever you brought."
Mackenzie gave a small smile as the two girls went their separate ways. Mackenzie made it to Miguel's room. She knocked quietly before opening the door, peeking her head in.
"Hello." She beamed as she entered the room.
A smile appeared on Miguel's face as he saw her appearance.
"Surprise!" She cheered, holding up the gift basket with a wide grin.
"Woah." He chuckled as he looked at the things inside the basket. They were very accommodated to his interests, including a few karate themed items.
"I hope you like it," Mackenzie added. "Are you feeling any good?" She asked sincerely.
Miguel laughed a little. "Sure, I can't feel my legs like at all but I guess I'm feeling good." He joked.
Mackenzie uncomfortably stood, not knowing whether to laugh or to maintain her demeanour. They both lingered in silence for a minute.
"Miguel, I'm so sorry." Her voice broke a little. The guilt was finally coming back. "For all of this."
"It's, uh.. It's ok." He said softly.
"El Serpiente!" Hawk's voice rang as he turned the corner and appeared in the door frame.
Mackenzie and Hawk both looked at each other, but didn't say anything. "I'm gonna go." She says as she lets Miguel know.
"Okay, yeah." He replies.
Mackenzie exits out the door but is stopped by Hawk's hand as he touches her shoulder. "You got some nerve coming here after what your little weakass friends did to him."
"I don't care what you have to say anymore. I'm just want to help, Miguel." Mackenzie snaps, turning around to meet the boy's face.
"Pretty sure you've done enough, princess."
Mackenzie rolled her eyes at the name he called her. She watched as he left to go inside Miguel's hospital room.

The next day, Sam decided to throw a car wash fundraiser for Miguel. Moon had reached out to her to not only apologize for the fight but to tell her to wear a bikini – it was supposedly going to attract more customers.
Mackenzie absolutely hated wearing bikinis, everything about them felt nothing like her. But, she knew that it was going to a good cause so she didn't complain.
She showed up to the fundraiser in a pair of pacsun jean shorts and yellow patterned bikini top.
She couldn't help but cross her arms over her torso as she walked into the car wash. She looked around for Sam and Moon, hoping to find them as soon as possible.
"Hey guys." Mackenzie smiled as she found the two.
"Kenzie!" Moon beamed as she pulled the girl in for a hug. "I wanted to apologize for the fight. I had no idea what I was thinking that day."
Mackenzie side glanced at Sam who just shrugged, not really sure on what was happening. "Are we good? No hard feelings?" Moon asked as pulled away from the hug.
Mackenzie shook her head which made Moon jump for joy. "Awesome!" Said Moon, "now we better get back to the customers, see ya later Kenzie!" She spoke as she skipped away.
The girl watched her go before turning to Sam with a sheepish grin. "What are we supposed to do now?" She questioned.
"Well," Sam replied, "we pretty much stand here and wash cars, right?"
Mackenzie exhaled a deep breath, "Let's get started then."

After a long day of washing cars and earning money, they were done for the day. Mackenzie spent the rest of her day at Sam's. They'd planned to have a sleepover.
"The fundraiser turned out amazing." Mackenzie beamed. "My mom said that she also saw your face on the TV."
Sam giggled, "Yeah, I really hope Miguel saw the news. I just feel so bad about it all." she sighed as she sat down on the end of her bed.
"I know how you feel. I honestly don't think we'll ever feel the same again, but at least be have each other."
Mackenzie added, taking a seat next to Sam. "I guess." Sam shrugged as she looked down at the floor.
As the two talked for a moment, someone knocked at the door. "That must be the pizza." Mackenzie shot up from the bed, "I'll get it!"
She pulled some cash out from her back pocket, ready to pay for the food. When she opened the door she was disappointed to her brother.
"Oh, it's you." she sighed with annoyance.
But, Demetri wasn't alone and they didn't look happy. "Sam!" she shouted out.
Sam soon arrived next to Mackenzie, "What's up?" she asked hesitantly.
"Is your dad here?" Chris asked his eyes furrowed, looking inside the house from the entrance.
"No, he's at work. Why?" Sam crossed her arms over her chest.
"Cobra Kai took the money and.." Demetri spoke but was interrupted by a badly beaten up Nate.
"They kicked the fucking shit out of me!"
