epilogue.

He drew a shaky breath as he loaded the heavy metal weapon.  His blood pumped through his veins at a rapid pace, and his heart couldn’t quite keep up.  The world around him was quite a blur as his heart only shattered petulantly, and as each shard fell, it only cut his world more.  The pain wouldn’t stop bleeding, and his revenge wouldn’t stop seeping.

His hands were trembling, but he gritted his teeth as he finished loading the cold object that sent electrifying shocks through his palm.  A sudden flashback of his hands covered in blood and the sheer terror of being alone in this world caused him to flinch and drop the heavy, cold object but he regained himself. He is so sure of his decision.

“We’ll be together soon, my love,” he whispered solemnly. “Just wait for me for a little bit, okay?”

Our happily ever after will come true in just a few moments. He added silently in his head as he crouched down and grasped the cold object firmly in his trembling hand.  That night replayed in his head for…he couldn’t even remember.  Days? Weeks? Months? Time lapsed too quickly, but he is tired of cowering in tears and heartache.  He is absolutely, utterly done with it.

Do Kyungsoo did not die for anything.

It was bad enough that his close friends, Sehun and Luhan, died so tragically years ago.  Their deaths…took quite a toll on both on both him and Kyungsoo.  But this…their death is nothing compared to Kyungsoo’s.  It’s like that saying, “Take one life for another.”

Jongin shook his head, chuckling flatly.  The sound disgusted his ears.  No, all their deaths had an equal effect on him, except his grives more for Kyungsoo because he was one hundred percent in love with him.  He remembered his old relationship with Sehun… Honestly, even though they were teenagers..

He snapped out of and gripped the cold object that grew heavier by the second. Sweat began to bead down his face as his adrenaline pumped through every part of his body.  His feet acted on their own, and he found himself in his car driving at illegal speeds to his destination.

The night was cool and fog shrouded the busy life of Seoul neatly.  He easily passed cars that were in his way and made his way to the other side of Seoul.  The evening traffic went by on a blur as he stepped on the pedal harder and managed to pass surprised pedestrians.  The speed didn’t even calm him down one bit as the adrenaline only raced more and more.

“Just wait Kyungsoo, baby.” He murmured underneath his breath as he caught sight of the place where he’ll finally be able to avenge his one-true love.  Jongin parked his car and left the vehicle with his cold friend in hand.  His footsteps echoed on the concrete as he made his way through the fog and up the damp steps.

A rather built man came into view and before he could react, Jongin hit him neatly behind the neck and damaged his central nervous system, causing instant death.  He watched the man fall quietly and he walked over him and entered the doors.

Jongin didn’t even have to think twice.  He watched his beautiful cold friend kill all but one man inside the room, all obviously caught off guard.  Their yells echoed in his mind, but Kyungsoo’s dying words shadowed over them.  They obviously weren’t prepared as the last one standing was crawling backwards, one hand up in surrender as his small eyes were wide with terror.

                “K-K-Kai! What are—“

“Don’t fuck with me,” Jongin growled underneath his breath, reloading his gun.  The weapon isn’t as cold as it was before, or maybe it was because his entire body went cold as he avenged his lost beloved. “Don’t you dare fuck with me.”

“Please! We didn’t mean to kill him!”

“You had every chance to see that he ran over to protect me!” Jongin cried, tears welling in his eyes. “You promised not to hurt him, yet you took everything that I loved away from me.  I’m only returning the favor by getting rid of vermin like you that corrupt this planet.”

The man slowly stood up, hands in the air and crouched over in a defensive stance. “But Kai is this what he would want?  Does he want you to kill people?”

Jongin didn’t answer him.  He didn’t know the answer.  He was rendered speechless and the man took this opportunity to speak even further.  He could see the tears threatening to fall down his eyes and that even hurt him a little.

“People we love always want the best for us,” he slowly started to say, “but killing isn’t…it isn’t the best way to relieve the pain.”

“Then how?!” Jongin’s tears fell and he angrily wiped them away.  The gun he pointed at the leader of the gang was trembling like crazy but he breathed deeply. “What else can I do to move on from this eternal torment?!  Kyungsoo and I will be together very soon.”

“You don’t mean,” he stopped immediately as he knew what he meant. “No, Kai. Don’t do that. Kyungsoo—“

“Don’t talk about him like you know him, Taemin.”

His former best friend and now rival narrowed his eyes, “We all used to be the best of friends until we went our separate ways and let our differences get the best of us.  I know DO.  He wouldn’t want you to kill everyone and then take your own life.”

The grip on the gun tightened and Taemin’s vision only got more blurry. “You don’t know Kyungsoo!”

“I know damn well enough that this isn’t what he wants!” Taemin dropped his hands and took a step forward towards Jongin. “And I know damn well that you won’t pull that trigger, Jongin.”

                “I’ll kill you.”

“No you won’t,” Taemin gently lowered the arm that held the gun pointed to his. “Because you know what I am saying is true.”

Taemin pulled Jongin into a hug and he felt his tears quickly dampen his shirt.  Jongin relaxed in his arms and he felt his arms slowly wrap around his waist.  He has not had one day when he broke his oath to never harm an innocent, and especially since the innocent was Do Kyungsoo.  His primary goal was just to eliminate Kim Jong—

“W-What?” Blood gurgled from his mouth as excruciating pain erupted from his mid-section and the pain explored his body.  He doubled over and fell on his knees, and a painful ringing sound entered his ears.  Taemin looked at his hands and was shocked to see that it was covered in warm crimson blood.  As the edges of his vision grew dark, he looked up to see Jongin pointing the gun at his face.

“Why?!” Taemin cried out, spewing blood.

“I had no intentions of having anyone here leaving alive,” Jongin cocked the pistol, “except me.”

-

                “Daddy!”

Jongin smiled as he saw an adorable little boy with dark hair and bronze skin run towards him, a wide smile stretched across his perfect face.  He swept the little boy in his arms and kissed his cheek.

“What are you doing, little man?” The kid giggled as Jongin playfully scolded him. “Where’s Minji?”

                “Mommy is—“

“Here!” Soft lips met Jongin’s and he was greeted with beautiful round milk-chocolate orbs.  Her perfect complexion was illuminated in the bright sunlight and her long, dark hair lifted slightly in the breeze behind her.

Jongin’s heart swelled.  Three years of absolute perfection and peace.  He placed his child down and held his hand, using his other hand to lace his fingers with his wife’s.  As they all walked down towards the park where Daehyun’s class is having a special meet-up, secret memories replayed in his mind as they grew closer.

Kyungsoo, Jongin thought, sending his thoughts towards where his once beloved now rests, do you remember that this is where we first had our first walk as an official couple? You were so embarrassed.

It’s funny.  I told Minji about how this is where we had our first date and she giggled, saying it was cute.  I’m glad she still supports me.  She knows how much I miss you, but I move you.  You’ll always be the one I love the most, but I have these two with me now.  You already know that don’t you?

A feathery breeze hit behind Jongin’s neck and he softly smiled.  Minji barely caught that smile and grinned to herself, squeezing Jongin’s hand.  He squeezed back as the feathery breeze quickly died down and the park came into view.

Of course you know.  You’ve been by my side all along.

This wraps, “’til death do us part”!
