Chapter Two
__••__
Jenna paced absentmindedly around the bedroom, holding her outfit for tomorrow's work in her arms. She moved back and front from the walk-in closet, and to the bed where she dropped a white and black dress. She made her way back into the walk-in closet, and looked through her shoes collection that were at the bottom of the wardrobe.
She silently picked up a sandaled heeled shoe then walked back to their bed where she dumped the shoe on. She stood straight, staring at the outfit on the bed with a blank expression. She raised her left hand and kept a steady gaze on the rings wrapped around her finger.
Flashback
Jenna strode into her apartment and flickered the lights of the living room on. She took off her coat and walked in further.
Just when she was about to cross over to the kitchen, the front door was pushed open in a haste by her work mate, Gloria. She was breathing like she had been running, her face was even coated in sweat.
"What is going on? Why are you looking like that?" Jenna asked as she drew closer to the woman who was bent over her knees and breathless.
Gloria sighed. "You-You have to come with me. So-something happened to Jon and-"
Jenna gasped. "What?! Where is he?!"
Jenna rushed past her friend, out the door and then paused at the porch before turning around to stare pointedly at Gloria who was still catching her breath.
"Are you coming?! My boyfriend isn't fine. Come on!" Jenna hollered and Gloria raced out the house, locking it also.
The duo drove past traffic and luckily did not get caught or stopped by the police. They drove until they got to a hotel, which only made Jenna more confused than worried at that moment.
"What are we doing here?"
"He's inside and I don't know if he can make it," Gloria said in a distant tone which Jenna did not sit well with her, as curiosity and worry ate deep in her mind.
"What happened to Jonathan?" Jenna asked in a voice laced in anger.
"Just come see for yourself," Gloria retorted, and muttered something that Jenna could not grab.
The two women got out of the car and walked towards the entrance of the slightly busy hotel. They walked in and stopped when Jenna saw the few crowds of people standing and facing them, and at some point, she could have sworn she saw some familiar faces but did not dwell on the matter for long.
"Why are they standing like that and where is Jonathan?" Jenna demanded and gripped Gloria's upper arm.
"Can you let my arm go and look?" Gloria replied, and pointed behind Jenna who hesitantly turned around in fear.
Right in front of her was Jonathan, with a bunch of rose flowers with his left hand behind his back. Jenna stood confused.
"Jonathan?"
"Yes, Jenna?"
Jenna shook her head in more confusion as she looked him up and down. He had no scratch on his olive skin, he wasn't even looking like something bad happened to him. His brown hair was swept back perfectly, his suit was ironed out fine. There were no scratches on him.
All of a sudden, the soft tunes of a slow and romantic song began to play out, shocking Jenna and making Jonathan smile brightly. The stupefied woman looked on, until Jonathan handed her the bunch of rose flowers and stood closer to her with a wider smile on his face.
"What's happening?"
Jonathan chuckled. "I'm surprised that you still don't know. Well, I don't blame you. But like you asked, I'm about to kidnap you as mine forever."
Jenna frowned. "I'm already yours, Jonathan. What are you talking about?"
"Once upon a time, I met a woman filled with just about everything I ever wanted in a woman and more. She was the whole world to me and I couldn't do anything without her. The way she talked, walked, laughed and even cried gave me more reasons to claim her.
"Jenna, I've waited all my life for you and I got you but there's just one thing that will seal everything for the rest of our lives," Jonathan said then slowly got on one knee, making Jenna gasp with wide eyes.
The perturbed woman stared as her boyfriend pulled out his other hand from behind him. Within his hand, was a small black box that only made her more curious and to satisfy such curiosity, he opened it up and in the box, sat a beautiful diamond encrusted engagement ring.
Jenna gasped, dropped the flowers and covered her mouth with her hands that were shaking. Her watery eyes moved back and forth from the ring to his smiling face.
"Will you marry me?"
...
Jenna shut her eyes as old memories of their engagement swam through her head. She opened them and a tear dropped from her eye then placed a hand on her stomach before dropping to her knees. She began to cry out softly on the cold floor, as another wave of old memories came to the back of her mind.
Flashback
It had been two years ever since their fairytale wedding happened, and the couple had always stayed happy ever since then. Their love still grew for each other, and they wanted nothing more than for it to grow more.
During these two years, Jenna and Jonathan had been doing their best to get pregnant but nothing fruitful ever happened, which made the couple sad each time they thought about it or fought whenever there was a misunderstanding when the issue of baby making came to the forefront of their relationship.
Jonathan suggested adoption or surrogacy, while Jenna, through disgust and hurt, declined until after a few days and months of contemplating, Jenna decided to speak the truth after their doctor gave them a devastating final report.
"I'm sorry," Jenna said in a soft tone to Jonathan who was sitting on their bed with an angry look on his face.
"No, don't."
"Jon, please. I'm sorry that this is happening to us. I didn't know that it would affect us this way. I'm sorry that I can't bear your children. It pains me."
Jonathan frowned deeper and stared at her with questioning eyes. She swallowed and looked down.
"Why didn't you ever tell me that you had an unsupervised abortion at age 16? Why didn't you tell me, Jenna? Now look at us, we can't even have one child because of your damn carelessness," Jonathan said in a hard tone. "Why didn't you tell me that you lost your womb. Why did you lie about it, and pretended like you didn't know why we can't have kids?"
Jenna's lips quivered as his words cut through her like a sharp knife. She raised her head to look at him then drew closer to him on the bed.
"I didn't want to lose you with such a secret and I just realized that I should've told you. I thought that by this time, I would have found a remedy to fix myself. God, I'm sorry. Please forgive me," Jenna pleaded in a broken voice.
She gasped when Jonathan pushed himself away from her, and walked to the window of their room.
"This news hurts me more than it does to you, dear wife. First I can't have children and two, you had an abortion, lied to me and kept it away from me. Wow, makes me wonder what else you're hiding from me."
Jenna stood up and approached him with teary eyes. She held his arm and gave him a pleading look.
"I swear, I'm not hiding anything from you. I didn't want you to hate me that's why," she said in a pleading tone.
"I don't even hate you at this moment, Jenna. I still love you so much and I'm just hurt about all these. I've always wanted to have kids with you but I guess that dream is scrapped off then," he said and walked away from her presence, and out of the room.
...
Jenna laid down on the cold floor of their bedroom as tears flowed down her cheeks at the memory. She curled her body on the floor and sobbed more, her vision blurred with hot tears and nose clogged from snot.
She heard a knock on the door and rolled her eyes. The person jiggled the door handle and knocked again.
"Jenna?!"
She clenched her fists when the worried voice of her husband passed through the thick walls of the room to her ears. The knock came again and so did his calls for her, but she kept mute until she heard his heavy footsteps down the hall.
After a few minutes, Jenna heard the sound of Vera laughing and out of curiosity, she rose up and walked to the window overlooking the main entrance of their house.
The blank faced woman watched Vera chat animatedly and laugh with Jonathan who was equally doing the same thing. She narrowed her eyes at them when Vera wrapped her slender arms around Jonathan from his back then she squealed when he grabbed her hands then pulled her away before he spun her around to face him.
They look so good together, she thought and rolled her eyes, trying to keep the incoming tears from spilling.
Jenna gritted her teeth hard as the duo played and chatted more with each other. Then they fell silent, bringing Jenna closer to the closed window. She watched as Vera hugged Jonathan, who hugged her back affectionately, with a look of calmness on his face.
"No, please. Stop," Jenna whimpered and backed away from the window. She walked over to the bed, tugged the covers off aggressively and yelled into the bed, trying to release every pain stabbing her heart.

Waking up as a new person with a new feeling for the day, Jenna stood up from the side of her bed, ignored her sleeping husband and took a bath then dressed up for the day. Once she was done, he had woken up and was getting ready for work too. When he had tried to kiss her, she simply dodged him like she didn't see him and continued dressing up. It was a relief when he left their bedroom.
After preparing for work in their bedroom, Jenna walked down the steps of their house, ready for work. She reached the last step and ignored Jonathan, who came into her line of vision. She ignored him and brushed past him to the kitchen where she poured coffee into her thermo mug. When she was done, she left the kitchen, picked up her bag from the living room and walked out of the house in a haste.
In her need to rush out, Jenna bumped into Vera right outside the double doors and in the process, the hot coffee spilled on the woman by accident. Jenna was on the verge of apologizing to her but paused mid sentence then smirked as the other woman hissed in pain.
"Did it hurt?" Jenna asked and Vera looked up at her like she had two heads, her small lips parted and eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"What'd you mean? Of course, it hurt like hell!" Vera retorted so loud that Jonathan walked out to see what was going on.
"What's going on here?" Jonathan asked and looked between the two women.
Jenna looked over her shoulder to stare at him then shifted her gaze back to Vera's wet and brown stained white shirt. She looked at the hissing woman up and down then snorted.
She's being dramatic, she thought and mentally facepalmed.
"Oh, well. At least I know that I am not the only one whose day started out bad. Good morning, Vera and good morning, Jon," she said in a sweet voice, kissed Jonathan on his cheek and offered Vera her handkerchief then briskly walked over to her car, boarded it and drove away quickly, leaving dust in her wake.
