Tourmaline

There is none so understanding than the self-confident Tourmaline gem.

Tourmaline

Savannah paces in the small bedroom that she had been escorted to by Headmistress McGonagall. Her hopes had been crushed. Hogwarts was her only home left. It should have been, anyway. She had dreamed for years of putting the hat on her head and being sorted. Of being placed where she belonged. Of having friends and learning true magic. The wild magic she could do already was amazing, but she wanted discipline. Order.

She lies down on the bed, staring around the bare room. It held only a bed, quickly transfigured from a desk by the headmistress. She had taken leave a few hours ago, to try and look up her parents since Savannah refused to give their names and their address.

There was one option left. It appeared to be the way to go. She hops off the bed and waves her hand over the bed, transfiguring it back to its original form and pulling out parchment, a quill, and some ink, writing feverishly on the page.

In the morning, Headmistress McGonagall stands outside the door to the room that held Merlin’s descendent. Her heart was sick at the thought of sending the girl home. It would be wonderful to teach her, but it was too dangerous. She held in her hands a letter from a tutor she had contacted, agreeing to take on the girl to train her in the way that young witches and wizards should be trained. After learning the truth of the girl’s bloodline, Minerva could do nothing but attempt to find some schooling for the girl.

“Savannah?” She knocks. There was no reply and so she opens the door.

The letter in her hands slips from her fingers. The desk was back to its original form, a sight more neater than it had been last night. A dot of red light hovered over a folded piece of parchment. Minerva hurries forward, touching the dot carefully. It did nothing but pulse before dying away, perhaps it had been left to make sure only Minerva had read the letter?

In a messy scrawl, Savannah herself explains why she had come so daringly to Hogwarts.

Headmistress McGonagall,

My parents are dead. They were killed by some of the remaining Death Eaters six years ago. Since then, I have lived on my own, living off of what is left in their vaults (do not worry, there is plenty to last me a very long while) and trying to stay safe from the world. I came to Hogwarts because my magic grew stronger, more than I could control. I wanted to learn how to master it and, what more; I wanted to have a family again. My mother, a muggleborn who had been in Ravenclaw, had loved this place and told me many stories of her time here, even of her role in the battle. My father, from the line of Merlin, trained on his own and agreed with my mother. Hogwarts would be best. So a third reason I attempted this was to honour their last wishes.

I see now that Hogwarts is not yet ready for another Merlin within its walls. I go now to find, perhaps, another home. I wish you much luck with the other first years, I am quite sure you will need it.

With much respect,

Savannah Gwendolyn Merlin

The letter is folded into the pocket of her robes as she hastens from the room, grim at the thought of telling the other professors this latest revelation.

As for Savannah; though the Ministry searched, they never found a trace of her.

A note: Chapter Three, my lovelies. What do you think? What will happen next?

Give me your guesses! The one with the best gets the next dedication. I miss dedicating to people…

This chapter goes to my lovely friend, Kristen, for who impressive catch. ;) She knows what I mean and will most likely sock me and then hug me tomorrow. Next update will be Friday (subject to delay).

Kelpies.

That is all.
