Chapter Twenty-Eight

As Savannah and her friends settle in the library, the group across the room starts to whisper and nudge someone in their midst.

“Okay?” Albus mutters, pulling out his Arithmancy book and getting to work. Scorpius scowls at the seventh year boys, his tawny gaze sharp on their backs.

“Oh stop sneering Scorpius. You’ll get wrinkles.” Rose teases as she leans against Lionel. After she had returned a few days ago, she had been particularly affectionate, even making a permanent hang-out day for her and Hugo, not that the boy was overly excited about the prospect.

“Hardly” The blonde snorts. He looks over to where Savannah sits, her open book lying useless before her as she holds a picture in her hand. He pushes back the hair from her face and lifts her chin.

“You going to smile today?” She gives him a weak attempt and puts away the photo of her parents that Harry had given her a few days ago.

“Maybe, maybe not.” She smirks before tugging his hand away and picking up her quill. Peregrine and Albus smile at each other knowingly before blushing as their eyes lock and Albus remembers what he had been going to say to Peregrine.

“Savannah?” The group looks up as one to see a handsome seventh year, a Ravenclaw, with summer bleached blonde hair and bright blue eyes the colour of aquamarine. He smiles dashingly at her and holds out a poppy flower for her to take.

“Do I know you?” Savannah asks as she hesitantly takes it, smelling it briefly and detecting a love potion. Highly advanced, able to work as a scent instead of consumption. She exhaled before the potion could take effect and conjures an invisible shield to go over the flower to keep the potion in.

“I believe we met once, during Halloween. I’m Gregory Farlow.” Savannah nods politely, pretending to take another sniff of the flower. She lets her eyes flutter and her body to relax against the chair.

“You’re very handsome, do you know that?” She asks in a light and airy voice. Gregory flashes his wide smile again and pulls a chair from another table to sit directly in front of her.

“You’re quite adorable yourself. How about dinner tonight?” He places his hand on her knee.

“It’s the last night before term ends. I’m not sure.” She takes another pretend sniff before smiling lazily. “I would love to.”

“Great, when should I pick you up?” He leans his face closer. Without warning, Savannah leaps to her feet, getting into his startled face.

“When you learn how to ask a girl out without using love potion you knuckle-headed twat! Do you think that I would really not notice? Do you think that I am so stupid?” She asks pleasantly. Gregory gulps; his eyes wide with panic and he frantically shakes his head. She jabs his chest with her finger. “Learn some tact, don’t take advice from your bonehead friends, and maybe stop using so much hair gel, you smell revolting.” She smashes the poppy right into his cheek, spreading the shield so that it encompassed his head, allowing him to get a good whiff, before using her magic to vanish the flower and its dangerous scent. Gregory’s eyes go dopey and he runs to the window where his reflection shows, whispering sweet-nothings to it until his friends pry him away to go to Madame Bones.

Savannah turns back and sits down. Rose and Peregrine are snorting into their textbooks while Albus mutters under his breath about idiots and Lionel whispers with Scorpius, who looks murderous.

“It’s called please and beautiful.” Savannah scoffs before opening her books once more and starting her homework.

“Did I ever tell you how wonderful you are?” Albus comments when he’s done muttering. Peregrine scowls slightly while Savannah shrugs.

“Did I ever tell you to get a move-on on a certain subject that we’ve discussed before I do it for you?” She replies sweetly. Albus colours and slams his book shut, strutting out of the library with a thunderous expression.

“Peregrine, why don’t you see what’s his problem?” Savannah asks randomly. Peregrine dashes out of her seat, calling a hasty good bye as her long blonde hair turns a stealthy honey colour.

“Who are you going to match up next?” Lionel jokes. She looks at him with a brow raised.

“I think Lily and Lorcan Scamander. He’s certainly adorable. Roxanne’s already moving in on that Joel guy, Fred’s a useless idiot, I’ll work on him next year, then there’s Hugo…hmmm… Maybe Katrina Wood? They’re both very Quidditch orientated.” She prattles, listing off her fingers.

“Hey! I’m supposed to hook my brother up.” Rose defends.

“Who did you have in mind?”

“Fine, we’ll do it your way.” She huffs. Lionel hides his chuckle and kisses her hair before heaving himself up.

“Scorpius, come help me find this one book on divination would you?” Scorpius looks up from where he had been reading about African firecrabs.

“Why me?” Lionel grabs his arm, hauling him away with much protest. Rose rolls her eyes at Savannah.

“Boys, what idiots.” Savannah giggles and finishes off her charms essay.

“So, any leeway in potions?” Her smile vanishes and she scowls dangerously at her paper.

“Slughorn is giving me acceptable, but I can’t make anything. I just don’t understand. Morgan can do wand magic and he’s now the top student in potions. Why isn’t he having any trouble?” Savannah rants while putting away her essay and pulling out a book on said potions. Rose looks up from her own essay, startled.

“Why would he be having trouble?” Savannah bites her lip and shrugs.

“No reason, he just let it slip that he had just gotten his wand before coming here.” Savannah says smoothly. Rose nods, her eyes slightly narrowed.

“Right, of course. Tell me, are there any boys that you like?” Rose’s change of subject has Savannah smiling with relief before frowning.

“I’m not sure. What exactly do you mean by like?” Rose rolls her eyes.

“Really Savannah? You may have lived in some remote Amazonian jungle, but you must know of crushes and boyfriends.” Savannah blushes and nods.

“Fine, I guess I like some guys. None that would last very long though.”

“You’re lying!”

“Am not!”

“Then why are you not looking me in the eye?”

“Why do you want to know?” Savannah snaps defensively. Rose smiles with triumph and puts her head closer to savannah.

“We all have significant others, Peregrine is getting hers right now. It’s your turn, little witch.” Rose smirks with evil mischievousness and goes back to her work.

“Rose, who are you thinking of?” Savannah questions nervously. Rose only shrugs.

“No one.”

“I’ll take away your freckles again.” Savannah threatens.

“I like her freckles.” Lionel says as he sits back down. Rose smirks at her before kissing him lightly. Lionel responds enthusiastically and Savannah rolls her eyes.

“Why are you taking away her freckles?” Scorpius asks as he sits next to Lionel, dropping some ancient tome on the desk and looking rather cross.

“Oh, Savannah likes someone.” Rose pants as she pulls away.

“Who?” Scorpius demands instantly. Rose raises a curious brow.

“Why do you want to know?” Lionel covers his mouth with his hand to cover his own smirk. Scorpius shrugs and looks away.

“I don’t really care. It was a spur of the moment thing.” He says dismissively.

“For your information, I don’t like anyone.” Savannah breaks in heatedly, her ocean eyes flashing with hurt.

“You so do, and I’ll be asking him out for you tomorrow on the train.” Rose announces loftily.

“The poor bloke.” Scorpius mutters; his face slightly pink as he glares at the divination book. Savannah slams her book shut and gathers her bag.

“Well I’m sorry that the mere thought of me actually having interest in someone disgusts you, Scorpius Malfoy.” Savannah whisper-yells.  Scorpius looks up in shock and shakes his head.

“That’s not what I meant!”

“Oh, so you don’t think he’ll like me back? That he won’t want to date me?” She snaps. Rose and Lionel watch with amusement, clasping hands and leaning against each other’s heads. Scorpius begins to get up.

“No, that’s not what I said!”

“You know what? Never mind! I’ll find him right now and then you’ll see that I’m desirable.” Savannah retorts before turning on her heel and marching out, ignoring the librarian’s furious hissing. Scorpius stares after her in shock.

“What the hell just happened?” He demands angrily. Rose begins to clap.

“My entertainment for the day.” Scorp glares at her before turning to Lionel.

“Thanks a lot mate! Great advice.”

“I said act aloof, not to insult her.” Lionel shrugs. Rose gets up and pulls Scorpius out of his chair.

“Look it’s almost time for curfew. Go find her and tell her how you really feel.” Rose orders.

“Whoa, but she’s going to find some other bloke!”

“You twit! It’s you!” Rose snaps, smacking his head and shoving him completely out the door.

“I know, I know. Detention when I get back. Will do.” She tells the librarian as she goes back to her seat.
