I couldn't deny that when I woke the next morning I felt refreshed.
In his alcoholic state, Hero hadn't gone easy on my body and I was feeling the soreness in my legs.
To my shock, he looked energized and served me some toast and cereal for breakfast. In my opinion he seemed too happy after suffering a hangover.
"What's with the chipper attitude?" I asked.
Hero shrugged. "If my memory is correct, I had the chance to fuck the holy hell out of you and slept like a baby. I'd say that's enough to be grateful for."
I giggled as I drank my orange juice.
"You have to be the horniest college student I've ever met. Brendan calls you sex on legs you know."
Hero recoiled at this. I wasn't sure if it was just me, but it seemed as if he didn't favor Brendan's lifestyle much.
Just as quickly as the disgust appeared, it disappeared, replaced with a smile.
He pressed a kiss to my forehead.
"Are you complaining?"
I shook my head. "Not at all."
As Hero turned, he paused mid-step.
"I'm still upset over yesterday."
Oh. He remembered that did he?
"Can we not rehash this?" I huffed.
"Eloise and Charlie are due in court. They're going to serve life."
Hero glared. "That's still not good enough."
I looked up from my bowl.
"What else is there to do? Give them the death penalty?"
He raised a brow at this.
"If it's possible, by all means."
I rolled my eyes. He was so dramatic.
"Look, I need to get to work. Can you give me a ride?"
Hero swung around, twirling his keys around a finger.
"Come on. Let's go."
As we both made our way to his car, I caught sight of something white and familiar.
I saw that was indeed a Kia Forte.
I faced him with confusion.
"Is that... my car?"
Hero cleared his throat.
"Yeah. It is. I... spoke to that asshole about getting it towed."
How did I not notice this here last night?
And was he saying he spoke to Cole?
No. There was no such thing as Hero speaking to people he hated.
I pursed my lips.
"And he just called the tow company for you?"
He scoffed.
"No. I did. I just wanted to get the car from him."
I nodded, not finding it necessary to question him further.
When we made it to the enterprise, I rushed inside, realizing how late I was.
As I made it past the receptionist, she was just as depressed as ever. This fact didn't surprise me.
Surveying the area, I wasn't sure what I was looking for until I came face to face with Cole, though he didn't look the same as usual.
He was sporting a purple bruise and a busted lip. I rushed towards him with concern.
"Oh my god! Cole! Are you alright?"
He lowered his head shamefully.
"No. I must confess I am not. Hero isn't with you, is he?"
I looked behind me curiously.
"No. He's not... should I be aware of something?"
After a moment of surveying his face, I gasped.
"He didn't do this to you, did he?"
"He threatened me." Cole confessed. "Said that I needed to stay away from you. He punched my face because... I guess I snuck you past him...?"
Oh no.
I frowned.
"I am so sorry. He's just protective of me... I... I'm not fired am I?"
Cole shook his head nervously.
"No, but I suggest he stay away from me or I might indulge in a restraining order."
I blew a strangled breath out the side of my mouth.
"Thank you. Again. I am so sorry. I might have mentioned to him that I would ask you for a ride."
Cole remained silent for a minute.
"You should head in there. The phone lines are going crazy."
I nodded, heading right for the double doors.
As the day went on, I saw that the phone lines were indeed busy. I barely had time to clean much of the office and hoped corporate wouldn't be paying us a visit.
Later on in the week, Brendan and I had joined Josephine for the dress shopping. She looked ravishing in a long white dress that swept the ground and insinuated her curves.
Our bridesmaid dresses (and tuxes) were floral and black. They blended in well and didn't take too much attention from her.
When we had gone to look at rings and save-the-dates with Niall, I was glad that Emma had decided to tag along.
Now that Eloise and Charlie were put away, we had a chance to have a normal relationship. It felt new and exciting.
During dance lessons we were all required to participate. I took the opportunity to drag Hero along.
When we arrived at the high end studio, I was taken aback by how sleek and modern the decor was. There was a large metal band across the front labeled:
EDEN DANCE CORPORATION.
When we entered the globe-like ballroom, two dance instructors were present.
One was a thin man, built like a lithe cat and a woman twice his age that appeared buff and toned.
Some sort of jazz music was playing on a system and Josephine and Niall were already waltzing around the room.
Jo looked like she'd been presented the world, glued to her fiance as he stared dazzlingly back at her.
The two teachers were circling them like vultures, voicing their concerns.
"That's it!" The woman snapped. "Correct your posture. We wouldn't want your feet sticking to the ground."
I stared around at the few strangers that had come, now gathering around on the floor, following their lead.
As the corners of the room emptied, I saw that both Jo and Niall's parents had attended.
They tipped their heads, doing the same.
"It's our turn." I stated.
I had begun to start forward until Hero yanked me back by my hand.
"No way in hell am I doing this gay shit." He spit.
"You have to," I murmured, "it's a group activity. Please. Do it for me."
Hero seemed to struggle at my begging.
"I don't dance." He mumbled.
I smiled. "That's why we're here to learn."
Before I could lead Hero towards the dance floor, the male instructor pushed at our backs.
"Come on, don't be shy! Show me what you've got!"
Seeing that he had no other choice, Hero grabbed ahold of my shoulders, staring deeply into my eyes.
He looked frightened.
As the teacher instructed us to pace and turn in a circle, Hero stepped on my foot as soon as he moved his leg.
He groaned, throwing his hands in the air.
"That was okay." I encouraged. "You did your best."
Hero glared.
"I fucking suck at this!"
I did my best to calm him, running my hands down his arms.
"It just takes practice."
Hero turned to glower at the instructor.
"Well I can't do it with him in my space!"
Holding both his hands up in defeat, the man backed away, circling around the room.
When I'd managed to calm Hero enough and got him to start waltzing again, the atmosphere changed.
With our bodies collided together, we moved in sync, as if by a miracle. One step after another, we spinned and twirled together as if no one else was in the room.
I'd grown so lost in his gaze, that I didn't notice my awkward stance. Soon enough, we both toppled to the hard floor on top of one another.
I giggled eventually eliciting a laugh from him.
Looking up, I saw a giant crowd surrounding us.
"Are you two okay?" One of the instructors asked.
I leaned down to press a kiss to Hero's lips.
"Just fine."
