Chapter 8: Clubs
Nagisa's POV
"Clubs?" Arisa-chan asked.
"Yeah. Each student has to enter at least one club. So if you're interested in a club, you can join it."
She closed her eyes. "Hm... What club should I join? What club are you joining, Nagisa-chan?"
"Me? I don't know yet either."
"What about you, Yuki-chan?" She turned to Chiyuki-chan.
"I-I think I'm gonna join the Manga Club... I'm pretty into drawing manga, after all..." She said.
"Manga, huh? I'm no good in drawing... I guess I'll join tennis again." Arisa-chan said as she put her arms and head over her desk, sighing.
"You used to be in tennis?" I asked.
"Yep. Since middle school. The people are really nice!" She replied, smiling.
Chiyuki-chan smiled, "Th-that's great, Arisa-chan... I don't know if I'll get along with the people in the Manga Club..."
"What do you mean?"
"W-well... Other than you guys, I'm not very good at talking with other people, so I'm a bit worried." Chiyuki-chan said in response.
"Hm..."
I said, "Then, I'll join the club with you."
"Eh!? No way I can ask that much..." She said.
"It's okay! Plus, I've been interested in drawing and been wanting to learn how to draw manga." I said.
"Is it really okay?"
"Yeah. Now you have nothing to worry about, right?" I smiled.
She blushed, "Nagisa-chan..."
"Then, it's decided!" Arisa-chan stood up. "I'm gonna go apply for the Tennis Club."
"Yeah. I guess we'll apply for the Manga Club now." I looked at Chiyuki-chan.
We went out into the hallway. "Well, the field is that way, so I'll catch you guys later!" She started running.
"Tanaka! No running in the hallway!" Hazuki-sensei said to her she ran by him.
"Y-yes, sensei!"
Me and Chiyuki also left to the manga club.
"Um, Nagisa-chan..." Chiyuki-chan said.
"Yeah?" I looked at her.
"Uh... I feel like I should thank you." She said as she started poking her pointer fingers against each other.
"Before you and Arisa-chan, I've never had any friends before... People always see me as 'the girl who always reads manga by herself' at my old school. And they rarely talked to me, too." She started.
"But I also didn't really made an effort to talk to other people either... So I was really happy when you started talking to me!" She blushed and put her hands into fists.
"And that made me realize... Nothing's gonna change if I just stay quiet and don't do anything."
She looked at me, "So, I want to seriously thank you, Nagisa-chan!! I can be myself when I'm around you and Arisa-chan, and I finally found my first friends... So thank you!"
I was surprised for a moment.
I smiled, "No need to thank me. You're the one who really opened up to us."
She smiled.
We reached the Manga Club and applied for it. We were greeted by a girl.
"New recruits!?" A female voice said.
"Y-yeah... Come over here, Nozomi-senpai." The girl who greeted us said.
A girl with dark blue hair tied into a long ponytail walked to us. The long middle part of her bangs went down between her eyes and she was wearing glasses.
"Welcome, welcome~ So you're here to join the manga club? You are very most welcome to!" She said happily.
She looked at us and then hugged us, "You guys are so cute! I can't wait for you two to be part of the club!"
A boy with light brown hair said, "You're already scaring them, senpai."
She released us and apologized, "Oh, I'm sorry!"
"My name is Nozomi Kaori, the president of the Manga Club. I'm a third year!" She said as she put her hands on her hips.
"Nice to meet you, senpai. My name is Shiota Nagisa, a first year." I bowed slightly.
Chiyuki-chan also bowed, "M-my name is Shiraishi Chiyuki... I'm also a first year."
Nozomi-senpai waved one hand at us. "Oh, you two are so formal! No need to be so formal!"
She turned over to the girl before. She had brown hair that was tied into two parts, resting on both her shoulders. "That's Konno Saya, a member of the Manga Club. A second year."
"Hello." Konno-senpai said while smiling.
Nozomi-senpai then pointed to the light haired boy. "The guy over there is Oda Kuukai. Also a member of the manga club and also a second year."
"Sup!" He held up a piece sign. "Also, just to put it out there, I'm not related to Oda Nobunaga!"
We chucked at him.
"There are two more members, but these are the only ones here at the moment." Nozomi-senpai said.
She gave us a forum, "Here. Fill this in and I will bring it to the faculty office later."
Me and Chiyuki-chan filled in the paper and gave it back.
"Okay~" Nozomi-senpai cheered. "We meet in Wednesdays and Thursdays for two hours after school! You're allowed to not come if you have a good enough excuse!"
She continued, "We usually draw manga drawings or comics, and then show them off if there's an event like the cultural festival and stuff. If we're lucky, we get to compete in competitions too!"
I smiled, "Please take care of us!"
Chiyuki-chan said, "P-please take care of us."
I looked around the room. The room was not too big and not too small. There were desks made into one in the middle of the room.
There were also a few computers around. There were drawings on the walls made by different people. Different kinds of colored pencils and markers were in the containers on the desks.
"Um," I raised my hand. "I've never drawn manga before, so I'm a beginner."
"That's totally okay!" She gestured her hand in an "okay" sign. "Konno-chan over there will teach you the basics."
Konno-senpai smiled at me.
"And what about you, Shiraishi-chan?" Nozomi-senpai turned to Chiyuki-chan.
"Um... I've been drawing since second grade." She replied.
"Wow!" Nozomi-senpai literally said in English. "We have an experienced one here! I look forward to seeing your art!"
She took both our hands in hers, "We look forward to having you two in the club!"
"Thank you very much!" I said happily.
"Again, being so formal! Here in the Manga Club, we're one family! So there's no need for formality!" She said.
She ran towards the door, "Well, I'm gonna go to the Faculty Office now!"
She turned back and started running. We could hear her say "Toriyaaah!!" As she ran. The voice gradually faded and it was quiet.
"Sorry about that." Konno-senpai said. "She can be quite weird most of the times."
"She's really energetic." I smiled.
"But don't worry, she's a really great president!" Konno-senpai said.
"Then, well be taking our leave as well." I said as I looked at Chiyuki-chan.
We turned to the door.
"See ya next week!" Oda-senpai waved at us.
"Excuse us." Then we left.
We walked back to class. "They were really nice, weren't they?"
"Yeah!" Chiyuki-chan exclaimed.
Today, we joined the Manga Club. We were greeted warmly by the members there. Honestly, I couldn't wait to start.
-Time skip-
"Now you're in the Manga Club!?" Karma-kun said as we walked.
"Yeah." I replied.
He became quiet and I could see he was emitting a blue aura. He seemed pretty down.
"I'm sorry... Even though I said that we'll meet everyday." I felt bad now.
He stayed quiet for a few seconds, and then hugged me as we walked from behind. I could feel him nuzzling his head on my neck.
We have an upset Karma here.
I turned back and hugged him. "I'm sorry."
He looked at me and said, "It's alright." He smiled. "You don't have to be sorry."
He put his hand on my cheek, "I get to see you every other day."
"Thanks." I smiled.
We walked again. He intertwined my hand with his.
"Hey," I started. "When was our last date?"
"Uh..." He said. "Our first date."
He turned to me and smiled, "And that was a long time ago~" He said in a playful tone.
He already knows.
"Let's go on a date. Since today is Friday, let's go tomorrow." I smiled.
He hugged me again, "Hehe, sure~"
I held his head and smiled.
