Chapter 59: Her Warmth
Third Person View
Karma waited outside the gate. He had overslept in class, so he decided to wait for Nagisa, since she had club activities today.
Despite it almost being almost summer, the red-head kept his black blazer on. It didn't bother him much. When it gets to July, then he'll leave it to catch dust in his closet.
He kept waiting, until a certain someone walked out. A blondie.
Yamaguchi was walking out with a book in hand. He looked liked he was completely absorbed in the world of knowledge.
In fact, he was so absorbed that he didn't notice one of the books he was holding with his other hand fell. The book looked pretty thin, even Karma didn't hear much of a noise.
At least he would've heard the paper rustling, right?
Wrong.
Karma approached the fallen book. It read, "Mathematics II".
"Should I take it and throw it in the woods? Maybe when it's raining..." Karma grinned mischievously as he grew horns and a tail.
"Hey," A voice said. "Give it." Yamaguchi was towering over the squatting Karma. He looked down at the red-head with an unamused face.
"Crud, he noticed," Karma sweat dropped as he looked up at him.
Yamaguchi took his book from Karma, knowing full well what he was thinking of doing with it. "I appreciate you picking it up," Yamaguchi said with sarcasm.
"Oh, no problem, buddy!" Karma sang.
Yamaguchi cringed when he heard Karma called him "buddy".
Karma looked at Yamaguchi. "Working hard, aren't we?"
The blonde spared him a glance before turning away, tucking his books under his arm.
"Well, go on home, Blondie. I'll walk Nagisa home," Karma stated.
Yamaguchi looked at him again. "You've been waiting all this time for Shiota-san? She'll get worried, you know."
"Heeh, you're more considerate than I thought." Karma grinned at him.
Yamaguchi kept looking at him, realizing he's still grinning. "Don't get the wrong idea," He said sternly. "I'm worried about Shiota-san, not you."
Karma looked at him with a half-crooked smile. "I wasn't implying on that..." He sweat dropped.
The manga Chiyuki made of them really got to Yamaguchi. It kept lingering in his mind, and he hoped that Karma didn't know about it.
The red-head got rid of his playful grin, and turned it into a confident one.
"Just give up, Yamaguchi. Nagisa won't fall for you." He looked at Yamaguchi with deadly eyes. "There's no place for you anymore."
The boy in front of him widened his eyes a bit. The nerve, he thought.
Just then, Nagisa walked out of school. She had just finished attending the Manga Club. Chiyuki wanted to work on her manga a little bit more, so she decided to stay behind.
It was almost time for exams once again. She walked as she held a book from a cram school nearby.
The two boys noticed Nagisa and started scurrying by her side.
"Hey, Nagisa!" Karma smiled.
"Ah, Karma, Yamaguchi-kun!" Nagisa blushed. She was put in quite the uncomfortable situation. "W-were you waiting, Karma?"
The two walked with Nagisa, occupying both her sides.
Yamaguchi took the book from her hands, "What's this? Ah... It's the cram school I go to." He started reading.
"Ah, yeah," Nagisa said. "I was told to go to cram school. Should I join that one? Yamaguchi-kun is taking it, after all..."
Yamaguchi slightly blushed as he looked to the side with his eyes. Karma sent him a glare, although it didn't look like he was affected by it.
"Ah!" Nagisa thought, sweat dropping. "Did I accidentally drop a bomb by mistake!?"
She said that because since a person as smart as Yamaguchi was taking the cram school, then it must be a good one, right?
And maybe they could be in the same class.
She mentally slapped herself because the situation got even more awkward.
"Now I've done it..."
-Time skip-
It was morning, and as usual, Yamaguchi was on his way to school. As he got closer to it, he could see more and more students wearing the same uniform as him.
Since it was getting hot, the black blazers students usually wear are taken off, leaving only their white blouse and tie.
He himself could already feel the heat, and he wanted no more than to stay home from school with the air conditioning on. But alas, the world is a cruel place.
Noticing the time, he realized that he came earlier than usual. Iyo had overslept, so he decided to leave the poor girl behind.
Walking a few steps in front of him was Nagisa, and he seemed to have caught up with her since his footsteps were faster.
As he was about to greet her, another boy suddenly tapped her shoulder and walked beside her.
"Morning, Shiota-san!"
"Ah, Sasahara-kun! Good morning."
They continued walking.
Yamaguchi didn't think much of it and continued his own journey to his classroom.
It was lunchtime before he knew it, and everyone had gone off to their own spots to eat.
Instead of going to his usual group of friends, he decided to talk to Nagisa. He missed the chance this morning, after all.
He stood up and walked to her desk. "Shiota-san—"
"Nagisa-chan!" Arisa suddenly popped up and hugged Nagisa from behind. "Let's eat lunch!"
"A-Arisa-chan, she's going to fall..." There was another girl, a frail looking one, Chiyuki.
Nagisa laughed at her two friends. "Haha, alright, alright!"
The three of them escaped the classroom with their bentos in hand. He didn't want to interfere, so he left them be.
"Aw, who got left behind~?" Igarashi's voice was suddenly heard from behind the blonde.
Yamaguchi gave him a quick glare before joining him and his two other friends.
"Missed chance, again."
-Time skip-
It was suddenly home time, and Yamaguchi still didn't get a chance to talk to Nagisa.
Aside from their duties as student councils, they didn't talk at all.
It was a letdown for Yamaguchi, to be honest. He wanted to spend more time with her, get to know her, even if she might get embarrassed.
For him, she was different. He was curious about her. The girl who treated him the same as the others, and not just some hot guy she wanted to date.
Yamaguchi had fun and messed with the girls at first, but eventually he got annoyed. Nagisa was different, she didn't annoy him in the slightest.
In fact, she was fun to be around with. He enjoyed her company.
Very much like Iyo, he was slightly annoyed at the fact that Karma got to her first.
If he had met her first, would they be together?
Why is a guy like Karma dating Nagisa? Karma picks fights, has a sadistic personality, and worries Nagisa a lot.
Yamaguchi thought about waiting for her to walk home together, but Karma suddenly appeared again in his mind. In the end, he decided to go home straight away.
"It seems like we don't have a lot of chances to talk at school..." Yamaguchi sighed internally.
The thought annoyed him, not to be able to talk with Nagisa, converse with her, and maybe talk about their interests.
Being with her made him have this strange sense of tranquility. It's like there's a relaxing aura fixated to her.
There's a strange... warmth about her.
"Brother!"
A girly voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"What's gotten into you?" Iyo leaned forward.
"Oh, you're here?" He glanced at his little sister.
"Iyo has been here since Brother left! Brother has been lost in thoughts." Iyo pouted.
An excited expression replaced her moody look. "Iyo is very excited for the upcoming trip of ours!"
She sparkled, "The thought of taking a trip together in summer vacation, in a nice villa next to a vast ocean!" Iyo blushed as she clasped her hands together.
"Iyo has already invited Nagisa-senpai, Karma-senpai, Arisa-senpai and Chiyuki-senpai..." Iyo counted excitedly with her fingers. "Oh, and Sasahara-senpai, too." Her tone of voice suddenly became flat.
"Oh, and we can't forget Nakano-senpai and Hitomi-senpai... And Brother's idiotic trio friends! That's the whole group!"
Iyo looked so excited. Yamaguchi couldn't understand why she was.
It was just a vacation to a villa with their group.
Nevertheless, he continued his endless ponder and wonder about a certain blue-haired girl.
