Once, Twice, Again
When you see someone everyday, you learn so much about them, the tiny bits and pieces, the shards of personality, their smile or their face or their hands. The way they talk, glance, or glare. If they pout, scowl, or frown. Maybe they have habits of scoffing or cracking their knuckles. You find yourself staring at them, trying to memorize trivial details which they don't even know about.
You can see through them.
Or rather, they elucidate themselves in front of you and reveal themselves rawly.
So when you find the person you've been patiently observing becoming clearer and clearer, unveiling their minds, opening their hearts to you, what do you do?
It's not something you handle easily. You blink, stutter, blush, shift, bite your lip and cover your face. Maybe you clench your fists, tilt your head, stare a while, blink again, once, twice, and again.
The only problem you have is when a person sheds their impressions and shows you what you did not expect. They show you a dark side, a side which was never supposed to be opened, something they like to keep to themselves.
Once they show you this side, you can see it peak more and more, it gets uglier and uglier, it bursts and bubbles and snarls at you. They know they have it, they try so hard to control it, but they're just as scared as you on the inside.
So what do you do when you see a person you know and care about fall apart in your hands? As you watch and you struggle to keep up and you feel yourself slip away and they just blink at you, once, twice, and again.
You're helpless and you can't bring yourself to admit how you're the same way on the inside, how everything hurts and claws at your mind and soul.
But you can't let yourself open up and show them your skin.
And they blink. Once, twice.
Again.
