chapter twenty two.
Complicated — Avril Lavigne
CYNTHIA HAD TO ADMIT IT WAS HARD TO SIT with Hawk after she heard all things he had said to their friend. Of course, best friends always have arguments but, what was happening with Demetri was not normal. She loved him, but, she was beginning to realize that Hawk was no longer Eli anymore.
"I can't believe you did this." She commented with a laugh, staring at the matching North Star tattoo the boy had gotten over his heart.
"I remember when you first got this." The Moskowitz boy replied with a grin.
She did too, the first time that she realized she had feelings for Eli was that day, and she'd never forget it.
"All done." Rico, the tattoo artist spoke, interrupting the conversation.
Hawk sat up with a confident smile, nodding his head at the man before giving him a simple thanks and sliding off the table.
"I love it." Cynthia smiled lightly standing on her toes before pressing a kiss against the boys lips.
It lasted a few more moments, before he put his arm around her and they started to head out.
"Hey, asshole twins. Grab my bag." He demanded to the two boys who had recently joined the dojo. "We're out."
More red flags rang in the girls mind, but, she continued to ignore them, holding onto the memory of what he was.
"Thanks, guys." She smiled lightly at the two boys, hoping that it would make them feel a bit more comfortable.
She didn't know how much more of Hawk she could take.
CYNTHIA SAT ACROSS FROM A STRESSED MIGUEL, still obviously upset about his breakup with Sam. She pouted her lips once she realized he wasn't listening to her speak, the girl waving her hand in front of him. She then snapped, finally gaining his attention as he looked up.
"Earth to Miguel, i'm trying to relieve my life crisis' onto you, that's what you're here for." The Sari girl let out a huff, leaning forward in her seat.
"I'm sorry, it's just that—... i'm making this thing for Sam and I really just want it to be perfect." The boy explained. "I'm going all in like Sensei said in class."
Cyn sighed as Hawk walked passed them, no doubt going to bully the new recruits.
"I get it, do you want any help?" Cynthia pulled the boys computer towards her, and smiled upon seeing a video of him and Sam inside a heart. "Okay, this is a bit much."
"Even the octopus? It's our relationship mascot." The boy frowned, placing his chin on his hand.
"For one, yes. Even the octopus is too much. Two, if you keep sending her things, she's just going to want to ignore you more." The Sari girl looked around the area with a sigh. "I think you should go on a date, with the new girl. I mean, she's pretty, right?"
"Well, yeah, but..." the Diaz boy sighed, shaking his head. "If I moved on with Sam, it wouldn't be with her."
"You already have an idea? Because that's even better." Cyn grinned lightly, reaching over the table to place her hand on the boys shoulder. "I have hope for you yet, Miggy."
"Yeah, yeah I do." Miguel smiled lightly, looking down at his hands before closing up his laptop. "What did you want to talk about?"
"Don't even get me started..."
AS THE BOYS WERE GOING INTO THE COMIC BOOK STORE, Cynthia decided to go and try to find a nice outfit for school. She had been saving every penny she could find, and she was finally able to get something for herself which was nice. All in all, this was supposed to be a nice afternoon.
Until she seen Demetri running past the store window, followed by people from Cobra Kai.
Cynthia dropped the clothes in her hands and immediately ran out of the store, following after them. Her heart raced as she seen half of her dojo, going after one boy. She couldn't believe that things had gone this far, especially in such a small amount of time.
"Stop!" She yelled as she seen the Cobra Kai's disperse in different directions, all of them ignoring her to go find Demetri.
The girl heard screaming down toward the foodcourt and made her way there, her heart beating rapidly against her chest. She didn't know what she would do in this situation, because it was a tough one. Would she side with her boyfriend who she knew was wrong, or with her friend who was going to be a victim.
"Five against three? More like two and a half." She heard Hawk say as the girl made her way towards the issue, the boy smiling when he seen his girlfriend. "Now it's six against two and a half."
"No, it's four against five, and something tells me I can kick all your friends asses." Cynthia put up her fists. "If you do this, it's going to ruin everything, Eli."
"It's Hawk." The boys smile dissipated. "Go!"
One of the boys from Cobra Kai ran at Cynthia, Hawk knocking him down before he could get there. The Sari girl sighed at that, knowing full and well that she could defend herself. She got the opportunity as another ran up to the girl, making her kick him backwards and onto the floor.
She turned to see a scared Demetri, startled by everything that was happening around him. She seen it as a chance to grab the boy, helping him get away as the fight continued. She couldn't believe that any of this was happening in the first place but, she wasn't going to let her friend get hurt.
"Stay here, i'm going to go back." Cynthia let out a sigh. "You know I can't let him get hurt."
Demetri nodded slightly as she ran back, the girl screaming as she seen Hawk get kicked onto the ground. She dropped to her knees, holding him in her arms as she looked up towards the students from Miyagi-do. She ran her hand along the boys face, a slight tear coming from her eyes because he got hurt.
"Thanks for helping." Sam voiced with a half smile.
"It wasn't for you." Cynthia looked away from the pair, shaking her head. "I did it for Demetri."
She'd always be loyal to her friends.
CYNTHIA'S FISTS WERE BALLED AS HAWK TRIED to explain himself for some reason. There was no possible explanation that would make what he did okay, especially after she had warned him about what would happen. She was over it all, and this was the last straw.
"I don't want to hear it, okay? I'm so tired of watching how badly you treat people! You are so insecure about who you were, but I loved who you were. This person right here..? Hawk? I hate him." Cyn's words were laced in venom but, she had been through too much lately to care.
Holding onto a memory was no longer good enough to her, not when he stomped on that memory and left it to rot.
"Demetri is a fucking nerd! Why do you care about him so much?" The boy scoffed, throwing his hands into the air.
"He is our friend! Are you kidding me right now? He was there with you through everything, even before I was and now because he isn't like you, you bully him?" Cynthia ran a stressed hand through her hair with a sigh. "I regret ever helping you become Hawk because he is an asshole."
"You don't mean that." The Moskowitz boy shook his head in protest, grabbing onto her arm.
"Yes, I do." The Sari girl nodded her head. "And i'll tell you something else I mean, we are over. Don't try to convince me otherwise."
She snatched her hand away from the boy and began to walk up to the steps leading to her home with a sigh.
"I got this tattoo for you because it means forever, Thia. You can't do this!" Hawk yelled after her, the girls face pooling with tears.
"Sometimes forever isn't as long as we think it is." Cynthia's voice was shaky as she spoke, knowing that if she didn't leave soon, she'd just run straight back into her exes arms. "Goodbye, Hawk."
... that goodbye was one of the hardest in her life.
THE NEXT DAY, CYNTHIA WAS HESITANT TO EVEN GO BACK into her dojo. There was so much toxic energy lately from Kreese, to Theo, to Hawk, and everyone else who followed him. Even after all that, she didn't even contemplate leaving, not when she loved Cobra Kai so much.
"Are you okay?" The Antonetti boy whispered over to her, the boy sitting by her side.
"Nope, and I don't want to talk about it so just please shut up." Cyn was fighting tears as her fists clenched, looking in front of her as Hawk and Miguel sparred.
"Nice work, Diaz!" The Lawrence man yelled as he beat the Moskowitz boy. "Bow, go again."
Just then, the door opened up, and none other than Daniel Larusso burst into the room.
Cynthia felt her skin crawl at the sight of him. This dojo had become such a negative space but, him being there made it even worse. She couldn't stand to see him, especially since her father was back in town.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Johnny questioned.
"Like you don't know." Daniel snapped.
Cynthia figured this was about what the boys had done at the mall but, she was severely mistaken.
"Take your shoes off the mat, you're disrespecting my dojo." The Lawrence man demanded, obviously angry.
"You're seriously going to talk about disrespecting dojos after what you did to mine?" Daniel Larusso asked, his fists balled angrily like Cyn's had been the night before.
"What the hell is he talking about?" Leo questioned with his brows furrowed.
"I—..I don't know." Cynthia shrugged lightly, shaking her head.
"What are you talking about? I didn't do anything to your dojo." Johnny denied, obviously confused about the situation.
He didn't but, one of his students did, and it was Cynthia's fault.
