chapter twenty one.

Silence — Marshmello, Khalid
(Highly recommend listening to this, it describes Cyn perfectly)

CYNTHIA COULD FEEL EYES ON HER AS SHE POURED herself a bowl of cereal from the pantry. She was quick to pour herself milk afterward, grab a spoon, and make her way outside before her father gathered the courage to speak to her. It had been a few days since Cobra Kai overshadowed Miyagi-do, and he still hadn't talked to her, but, she didn't want to take the chance.

"Room for one more?" A voice spoke up, making the girl turn her head in it's direction.

"Hey, Miggy." Cyn spoke softly, a small yet forced smile on her face as she patted the seat next to her.

"My mom says you've been having a hard time since your dad came back." The boy wore a frown as he planted himself next to her. "Bianca's been at my house for awhile, she looks upset."

"I—..uh, we haven't really been talking." Cyn put her bowl of cereal on the ground, the urge to eat leaving her. "I've been too stressed to even deal with any of it. I just—.. there's been too much from my dad to everything with Cobra Kai. I can't do all of this anymore."

"What's the problem with Cobra Kai?" The Diaz boy asked, tilting his head to the side.

"You are telling me you haven't felt it change since Kreese came around? Hell, you changed at the tournament. I changed, Eli changed, when was the last time we talked to Demetri? He was one of our best friends and he's barely with us anymore, Mig." Cynthia scoffed at her behavior, and that of her friends. "I don't recognize the people I see when I walk into the dojo anymore, it's all different."

"Do you really think that?" Miguel felt his foot tapping on the ground, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Everyone here has changed, and the longer you fail to realize that, the worse you'll be when the dust settles." The Sari girl pushed herself up from the stairs, grabbing up her bowl from the ground. "I'll see you at practice."

Things had changed, and he was starting to realize that.

HEARING KREESE SPOUT LIES REALLY GRINDED CYNS GEARS. She realized that Miguel was now seeing it too, and she figured that it was a step in the right direction. Hawk on the other hand, was eating the mans words up like there was nothing better in this world.

"Listen up! Everyone fall in, neat lines and rows." Johnny yelled, snapping the girl away from her thoughts, everyone lining up in their usual spots as he walked through the lines of students. "Time to see what you're made of. Straighten up ginger twins. Sorry, parents can't stay for class, it's an insurance thing."

"I'm not a dad. I.. I am here to kick some ass, sir!" Cyn looked back to see an older man, one she had seen at Home Depot a few times that she had went with her father.

Cynthia drowned out the remainder of their conversation as she made eye contact with Kreese, the man giving her the creeps just looking at him.

"Mouth, I trust you are paying attention!" Johnny yelled, making the girl jump slightly.

"I am, Sensei!" Cynthia yelled back, straightening up in her place.

"Good." The Lawrence man went up to the front, walking back and forth. "I thought my last group of recruits was pathetic but, if you do what I tell you to do, you'll at least have a chance of becoming a fighter. To do that, you gotta fight. So, which one of you has the balls to take on the champ?"

Most people didn't dare to even spar with Miguel, they were scared they would get hurt, especially since he won the All-Valley.

"I'll take him on." A girl spoke from the back of the group, everyone looking toward her.

Cynthia was surprised to say the least.

"Oh, you will, huh?" Johnny questioned.

"I saw your little demo at Valley Fest. You guys can put on a show. Can you actually fight?" The Sari girl narrowed her eyes at the comment, the way it was said rubbing her the wrong way.

"Mr. Diaz, show little Miss Hotshot here what Cobra Kai is all about." Sensei instructed, Miguel nodding as he made his way to the middle of the room, everyone circling around the pair.

"We need to talk." Hawk whispered to the girl, making her bite her inner lip.

"About what?" Cynthia's voice cracked, the girl watching as the blonde that challenged the Diaz boy ran at him.

"What I said the other day... if you didn't want me to, i'm—..i'm sorry." The Moskowitz boy apologized, Cyn's eyes starting to water.

She felt bad she hadn't talk to him much since he said the words I love you. She didn't grow up hearing it too much, and she sure as hell didn't go around saying it to everyone. It was just hard for her to express how she really felt, without feeling too vulnerable.

"Don't be sorry." The Sari girl sighed, secretly slipping her hand into his as they watched the new girl give Miguel a hard time.

He knocked her to the ground, but, the girl flipped herself right back up to her feet. She was quite good for someone who didn't know karate, but of course, the Diaz boy was better. He kicked her down once again, the girl staying there a few moments.

"I meant it, I just wanted you to know that." His hand tightened around hers, the girl smiling up at him briefly.

The fighting between the new girl and Miguel continued, both getting the upper hand on each other every few seconds. Then finally, when the "champion" wasn't paying attention, she flipped him onto his back with a smile. Impressed was an understatement when it came to what Cyn felt.

Maybe the new girl wasn't too bad.

CYNTHIA DECIDED TO INVITE DEMETRI OVER BECAUSE she had heard he had a terrible run in with Kreese. She felt like she hadn't been showing her friend enough attention, and she wasn't. He was going through things practically alone lately, and she hated that.

Plus, it was good to have a buffer between her and her dad.

"I'm glad you came over, Dem." Cyn smiled lightly, sitting criss cross on her bed. "It's been forever since we really hung out, there's been a lot going on."

"I am aware. You have to put up with the Kreese guy, that's enough stress in itself." The boy sat in the corner where she had a swivel chair, spinning around in it. "I actually wanted to talk to you about something."

"About what?" The Sari girl tilted her head slightly to the side.

"I uh—... you know i've been pretty much bullied my whole life and I want to fix that. Eli—.. I mean, Hawk told me to try out Cobra Kai because it helped him and you but... obviously, you see what happened."

Demetri gestured to his face that Kreese had messed up, making the girl frown.

"Anyways, I want to go to Miyagi-do, and I know your problems with Mr. Larusso and Sam but—"

"Go." Cynthia interrupted, knowing that it would be best for her friend to go. "It'll be good for you to learn karate, i'm just happy that you asked."

The Sari girl smiled softly, looking down at her hands.

"I'm just sorry I haven't been the best friend that I could be, it's time I start." She finished off.

"You've been better than Hawk, I called him today and he called me a pussy, threatened me... he's just not the same guy." Demetri sighed slightly. "There's no more binary brothers."

That absolutely broke Cynthia's heart.
