chapter twenty five.
Heathens — Twenty one pilots
THE STUDENTS OF COBRA KAI WERE ABSOLUTELY sore and tired from the last few days. Kreese had taken things into his own hands as Johnny suffered a loss of one of his old friend, and he was basically a tyrant, wanting to punish the kids as much as possible. Cynthia stared at the door every day, hoping the blonde man would come back.
... but she knew that was selfish.
"We are going out for a special training today, brace yourselves." Kreese announced before grabbing onto his belt and walking to the back office.
Everyone groaned in unison, and Cyn closed her eyes as she massaged out the knot in her shoulder. When she opened them up, Hawk appeared in front of the girl, making her jump back slightly. She placed a hand on her chest, letting out a deep breath.
"What the hell?" She mumbled as he cleared his throat, the girl looking around to see both Theo and Miguel looking in their direction.
Neither of them exactly looked happy either.
"I really need to talk to you about something, it's important." The Moskowitz boy spoke, making his ex narrow her eyes.
"I really don't think we should be talking at all right now, Eli. I mean it." Cynthia explained, folding her arms across her chest.
"Hawk. My name is Hawk, Thia." The boy spoke through his teeth, the anger in him unrecognizable to the Sari girl.
"Right." She answered, her voice full of pain and anger all at once.
Their conversation was cut short at the sound of the front door opening, the cobra kai's real sensei entering the room. Cynthia smiled to herself, and instead of bothering to finish the topic at hand, she walked away and towards to blonde man, Miguel doing the same. They had both started relying on him in a way, and they were happy to see him.
"Hey, sensei. I'm sorry for your loss." The Diaz boy spoke up, the trio standing in a line as they walked.
"Me too, I couldn't even imagine losing a friend." The Sari girl frowned slightly, glancing at her best friend for a brief moment before she looked back down again.
"Thanks." Johnny answered simply.
"How was the funeral?" Miguel questioned, the girl beside him lightly hitting him to stop asking things.
"As good as any funeral can be." The Lawrence man answered, looking around his dojo. "How were things without me here?"
The Diaz boy and Sari girl exchanged worried looks, neither of them sure exactly how to answer.
"Great, I mean, Sensei Kreese is tough, but he knows what it takes to win." Miguel's answer was quite obviously a cop out, and Cyn wasn't going to do any of that.
"I'm gonna be honest, I hate him." She spoke, shrugging her shoulders. "It's good you're back."
It truly was, or at least she thought it would be.
COYOTE CREEK DIDN'T EXACTLY LOOK HOW CYNTHIA WAS expecting but, she didn't mind being there, quite honestly, it was beautiful. She checked how firmly her red head band was tied around her, hoping that with the right technique, it would be hard to take off. Was that cheating?
She would just call it being smart.
The rules of the game rang through her mind, and maybe it was because Kreese had explained them, or maybe it was because the game itself dumbfounded her. There wasn't many things they couldn't do during this, and part of that scared the girl. What if someone takes it way too far?
"Hey, Red!" A familiar voice spoke up, and Cyn spun around to see Tory standing there with a smirk.
"Oh, we are doing this?" The Sari girl raised a brow, squaring up in the correct position.
"I need my team to win, no hard feelings, right?" The Nichols girl tilted her head to the side as she spoke, cracking her neck in the process of things.
"None." Cynthia answered simply as the blonde ran at her, delivering a kick that knocked her backwards.
"So, what's the deal with you and Theo?" Tory questioned as the Sari girl bounded back, punching her in the stomach. "Oof."
"No deal, we just used to be friends." The Nichols girl threw a punch the other girl dodged, both of them moving forwards and backwards to keep a safe distance. "Didn't you have a thing for Miguel?"
"For like two seconds." The Nichols girl kicked up her leg, and Cyn caught it, twisting the girl around. "I think he's still into someone else."
Cynthia pulled the girls other leg, knocking her to the ground before she sat on top of her, grabbing the girls headband.
"No hard feelings?" She asked with a smile.
"Nope."
CYNTHIA WAS DREADING THE MOMENT SHE WOULD SEE Miguel and have to fight him. She currently had three black wristbands, and her competitive nature made it obvious that she wanted more. Problem was, she knew that Miguel was also someone who always wanted to win, and in these situations, only one of them could.
"This should be good." The Diaz boy commented with a smile.
"Ready to get your ass kicked, Miggy?" The Sari girl questioned, smiling in a mischievous way.
"In your dreams." Miguel was the first to run at the girl, his fists heading her way.
She bent down and his knuckles went right passed the girl, and into a nearby tree trunk. They both winced, Cyn scared he had gotten hurt, but he didn't, and ran towards her again. The girl laughed before grabbing his arm, twisting the boy around so that his back was facing her chest. He wanted to move from her grip, and they both laughed in unison at the situation.
"I say you give up." Cynthia spoke, both of them heavily breathing because of how much energy they had been exerting all day.
"Now way." Miguel reached backward, flipping the girl over his head and onto the ground. "You lose."
He carefully snatched the headband off the girl, but remained hovering over her as they both caught their breath.
"This time." Cynthia answered in a low tone, the pairs eyes not leaving each others for about fifteen seconds.
Then someone cleared their throat.
"Looks like I finally have a worthy opponent." Hawk spoke up, his two friends looking over to him as Miguel pushed himself on the ground.
"I seen you earlier, I know you're the one that trashed Miyagi-do." The Diaz boy called out as the Moskowitz one approached them, Cyn sitting upward.
"What?" Cynthia's heart dropped at her friends words, and looked to her ex for any sign of remorse in his eyes.
There was none.
"They're the enemy, I had to put them in their place." Hawk looked over to the Sari girl. "For you."
"Don't put this on me." Cyn's eyes threatened to water just thinking about it. Miyagi-do, her friends dojo had been trashed because of her and apparently her hate of the LaRusso's.
"You didn't have to trash their dojo or steal their medal of honor and you really didn't have to being Cynthia into this." The look of disgust on Miguel's face showed exactly how he was feeling, and someone could cut the tension in the air with a knife.
"What do you care? She was my girlfriend, not yours, okay?" Hawk snapped, the Sari girl lightly clearing her throat. "So tell me, are you mad about Sam, or her?"
"This isn't about either of them." The Diaz boy denied, shaking his head.
"Sure, it's not. You want the medal of honor?" The boy took it out of his shirt, showing it to both of them. "Come take it."
The two boys got into fighting positions, and Cynthia felt like things would go downhill from there, no, she knew they would.
"Guys—" by the time she said something, the two boys were fighting and all she could do was sit back and watch.
It was back and forth, both of them getting the best at each other every few moments, before Miguel finally knocked Hawk onto his back and snatched both his headband and the medal of honor. Kreese instructed the boy to deliver one hard hitting kick, and he did. Shocking practically everyone as Cyn held onto her neck.
"Shit." Cynthia mumbled, fighting the urge to run to Eli and make sure he was okay.
She couldn't do that anymore, not after everything he had done.
