chapter three.

Young dumb n broke- Khalid

CYNTHIA LISTENED TO THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR GO on and on about random things that nobody really cared about. She would much prefer to be talking about movies and shows with the boys but that obviously wasn't going to happen.

"Cyberbullying is no laughing matter. Sending a cruel message to someone online can be just as hurtful as saying it to their face. I'm not going to name names but the other day a mother called me up because her son was crying after some kids online made fun of his facial deformity." The counselor said out loud, to the whole cafeteria.

Kids all started to whisper, everyone knowing that it was Eli who she was talking about. He looked around the room with a frown on his face and Cynthia moved closer to hold his hand. She knew teens her age could be cruel. Hell, she was cruel but she wasn't going to let any of her friends feel like shit.

"If it makes you feel any better, I think it's hot." She said loud enough for the people at the tables around her to hear. People were shocked of course, but she didn't really care what they were saying about her.

As long as all her friends were okay.

"Th-thanks, Cynthia." Eli looked like he was on the verge of tears but squeezed her hand tighter before turning back to the counselor.

Miguel looked at the two of them, a hint of confusion and another feeling swelling up inside of him before he spoke.

"If you're sick of being bullied, my karate dojo is looking for new recruits." The Diaz boy offered.

"Yeah, right. You hear that, Eli? A little karate training, and you're gonna kick some major ass." Demetri said sarcastically.

"You never know until you try, Miguel has been doing really well." Cynthia defended, he had been showing her some stuff he learned at the dojo and she was quite impressed by it.

"Thanks, Cyn." Miguel smiled sweetly at her before turning his attention to the dark haired boy. "I'm serious, Demetri. My sensei's the real deal and i'm sure I can get everybody discounts."

"As enticing as that sounds, I think we'd be better off spending our afternoons playing crucible control than getting hit in the face." The teen said, taking a bite from his fry.

"Don't you already get hit in the face?" Cynthia asked, referring to Kyler and his friends.

"Fine, getting hit in the face voluntarily, is that better?" Demetri asked.

"Yup, just making sure you are aware of your current life situation." The Sari girl shrugged her shoulders.

"One last thing." The counselor said loudly, making everyone turn back in her direction. "While we're all looking forward to the Halloween dance, let's make sure our costumes are culturally sensitive."

She continued to ramble on but by then practically everyone had lost interest.

"Speaking of the dance, Cyn. The three of us were talking and we were wondering if you are going." Miguel spoke up.

"I wasn't planning on it, why?" The Sari girl asked.

"We were hoping you'd go with us and make us look cooler." Demetri stated simply.

"Aw, are you guys asking me on a date?" Cynthia questioned, each of her friends getting flustered.

"Uhm, uh, hm..." Eli couldn't form any words at all, his palms getting sweaty as he released Cynthia's hand.

"Yeah, I guess. Kinda? Unless that's weird because then...no, we aren't." Miguel said, looking around the room. "Because technically you'd be all our dates but also we would be all your dates and each others?"

"Oh my god, stop talking, please." The Sari girl laughed. "I'll go with you guys but I doubt this will get you any points in the popularity department."

"Won't hurt to try." Demetri shrugged and looked down at her plate. "Are you going to eat that or—"

"Nope, you can take it." Cynthia laughed and handed him her plate, shaking her head at the same time.

CYNTHIA SAT ON HER COUCH NEXT TO ELI UNCOMFORTABLY as Bianca ironed her costume. She had been grilling the poor boy since he got there and the Sari girl felt bad for him.

"I know how school dances went when I was a kid, you may look sweet but I don't want your hands going anywhere under her waist, you got it, kid?" The Sari woman asked.

"Yes, ma'am." The Moskowitz boy quickly nodded his head and shook his leg nervously. Miguel and Demetri all got their own rides but Eli's mom was at work and had to drop him off at Cynthia's.

"Good." Bianca stopped as if she had some sort of memory and her eyes widened. "Or her tatas, okay?"

"I-.. yes ma'am." Eli's head nodded quickly, he hadn't even thought of doing something like that.

"Bianca! You are scaring him!" Cynthia defended. "Eli and I are going with our friends and he's not like that."

"Yeah, yeah, that's what I used to say too." The Sari woman handed Cynthia her outfit. "Go ahead, go put it on."

Cyn sighed as she walked to the bathroom, her last minute costume was cute but very generic, a pirate. She figured since Eli was dressed as a doctor the group was just going as cliché costumes anyways. The young girl quickly changed into it, hoping Bianca hadn't made Eli run away and then she went back out to the living room.

"Where is she?" The teen asked her friend as she observed her aunt was no longer in the room.

"She went to start the car, told me not to try anything while she was gone." Eli laughed uncomfortably and stood up. "You look really pretty."

"Thanks, Eli. You look good too." Cynthia said as she put on her shoes. "Let's go, before we are late and Demetri gets all pissy."

The Sari girl took his hand and dragged him all the way to the car. He was obviously extremely nervous, no girl had ever touched him as much as Cynthia has and it was really weird.

"To the dance!" The teen girl yelled, laughing happily as Bianca sped off.

WHEN THE PAIR GOT TO THE DANCE, DEMETRI was already there by the punch bowl. Now all that was left was Miguel who was no doubt with his sensei. Finally, the boy came into sight, leaving his friend to smile.

"There he is." Cynthia pointed at the Diaz boy who was walking in dressed in a skeleton costume.

"Hey, guys." Miguel smiled at the group and put an arm around Cynthia after walking up to them.

"Oh, skeleton, classic." Demetri commented, praising the boys costume.

Cynthia put her arm around the Diaz boys waist and continued to sip on her punch.

"Thanks, I like your sorcerer costume." The boy said, complimenting his friend back.

"Sorcerer?" Demetri asked, offended by Miguels assumption. "Please, i'm a necromancer."

"Please don't get him started on it." Cynthia shook her head and laughed, he had given her the whole necromancer spiel before and it bored her half to death.

"Okay." Miguel turned his attention to Eli. "So, are you a regular doctor or-"

"Plastic surgeon, I fix lips." He answered back quickly, making the Sari girl frown, she could tell how insecure people made him about himself and it made her sad.

"Nice." Miguel nodded his head and looked down towards Cynthia. "What are we today? A pirate?"

"Boring, I know. There was just nothing else left." The Sari girl shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe next time i'll do something less tacky."

"Next time we can match." Miguel suggested. "Besides, I think you look good."

"Wow, you boys really know how to make my day." Cynthia laughed, all of them had complimented her, even Demetri who did it in a... less obvious way.

"We kind of have to, you are probably the only girl in this school that is nice to us." Eli said, trying not to frown under his mask.

"I don't know why, any girl would be lucky to date you guys." Cynthia smiled, an idea forming in her head. "This dance is super boring, what do you say we run around the halls?"

"Isn't that something we can get in trouble for?" Demetri questioned skeptically.

"Probably." The Sari girl shrugged. "So, are you in?"

"I am." Miguel was the first to accept going, they weren't doing much at the dance anyways.

"I'll go too." Eli agreed, nodding his head slowly.

"Come on, Demetri. We aren't vandalizing anything or being delinquents, it's just having some fun around the halls, maybe a Breakfast Club slide, perhaps?" The girl asked, making the three boys smile and nod their heads. "Great, let's go."

She grabbed all of their hands, pulling them along.

"Hey, look, it's the flyers for my dojo!" Miguel said happily.

"How did you even get them in the school?" Cynthia questioned, walking out into the hallway.

"Sensei Lawrence is hanging them up somewhere." The Diaz boy shrugged.

"Why am I even surprised?" The Sari girl mumbled to herself. "Okay, on three we all start running and by the end of that hallway we should be able to do it."

"Are we sure about this?" Demetri asked, a look of terror on his face.

"One..."

"I really hope we don't get in trouble." Eli said, letting out a small sigh and shaking his head.

"Two..."

"Come on, guys. It's going to be fun!" Miguel said happily, getting ready to fun."

"Three!" Cynthia was the first to start running, the boys following closely behind. They continued running all the way down the hall and as they turned the corner, all four of them started to stumble all over the place.

They all managed to stay up and round the corner, coming to a full stop at the water fountain.

"Okay, that was awesome!" Miguel said, picking up Cynthia and hugging her.

Demetri and Eli joined in and the group all hugged each other, even though they'd probably never admit to it later.

CYNTHIA WAITED PATIENTLY OUTSIDE THE bathroom for her friends. Apparently, boys go together in groups and took forever to do so. Then suddenly, Demetri and Eli came out of the bathroom running.

"What's going on?" She asked worriedly.

"Kyler and his friends are about to beat Miguel up, we've gotta go!" Demetri yelled, him and Eli soon sped off and left Cynthia who obviously wasn't going to let Miguel get hurt.

When she walked in, there was about four boys kicking Miguel, she wanted to just cry for him but that wasn't going to help.

"You boys never learn, do you?" The Sari girl asked with her arms crossed, everyone turned their attention towards her with wide eyes.

"Hey, Cynthia." Kyler smirked. "Long time no see, how are you doing after the last time we hung out?"

"You mean after you took my virginity and dumped me?" She shrugged. "Better than ever. I decided that guys with little dicks and an ego problem aren't worth my time."

The locker room sounded with the ooo's and ah's of all Kyler's friends.

"Cyn, please get out of here." Miguel begged, he didn't want her to get hurt too.

"Cyn, hm? So you decide to hang out with this guy?" He questioned, punching Miguel in the face."

"Let him go, Kyler." Cynthia clenched her jaw. "Now."

"What are you going to do about it if I don't?" He asked, laughing to himself.

"I-.." honestly, she didn't know what to do. She couldn't fight, especially not four big guys.

"Someone hold her back so we can finish up here." Kyler demanded, immediately one of his friends grabbed Cynthia up and held her hands behind her back.

"Let go of me you big ass grizzly bear!" She yelled, trying to shake him off of her.

Then, Kyler grabbed a lacrosse bat and started hitting Miguel over, and over again, his friend not letting Cynthia look away or close her eyes. Tears started dripping down the girls face, she wondered if she could've done something, but in the end all she could do was watch him get hurt, and that made her angry.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, they stopped hitting Miguel and threw Cynthia harshly to the ground before running off.

"Miguel." The Sari girl quickly ran over and held him in her arms, the boy not saying anything and staying still for the most part. "I'm sorry I couldn't help..."

Someone came into the room, scaring Cynthia. She was hoping the boys didn't come back for round two but luckily, it was Johnny.

She never thought she'd think that one phrase, luckily it's Johnny.

AUTHORS NOTE —

Whew! This has literally been the longest chapter of this book that i've written BY FAR.

I'm really excited for when Johnny and Cynthia start training together and hanging out because they are a DUO like he's probably going to be her father figure for awhile.

Can I just say i'm kinda proud because this book has been out less than a week and I have up three chapters and a prologue?

Anyways, who are you shipping Cynthia with rn?
