chapter one.
New perspective - Panic! At the disco
IT HAD BEEN FOUR DAYS SINCE CYNTHIA started to live with her aunt. Four days of hiding where she lived from her "friends", four days of eating things out a can, and four days of either watching cheesy tv shows or hanging out with Miguel after school.
Cynthia didn't mind it, he was a good kid and all but she just hated the fact that her parents just dropped her off and left. It hurt her, more than she cared to admit.
So, every morning, she lazily got out of bed, and went to make breakfast for her and Bianca. She did this mostly because she feared getting food poisoning from the things auntie B made, but also because she was grateful her aunt cared enough to let her live there.
"Morning, sweetie." The older Sari woman stretched out her arms as she walked into the kitchen. "Why are you up so early?"
"I always wake up early." Cynthia shrugged her shoulders. "I ate already ate breakfast, yours is on the counter."
"What'd you make?" Bianca asked curiously, walking towards the stove.
"Pancakes and bacon, it was actually not bad, I wouldn't try making pancakes again but... no food poisoning so that's good." Cyn let her hair out of the ponytail it was in and sighed.
There was a knock on the door, it wasn't very loud and the girls barely heard it, must've been someone who didn't really want to bother them.
"Must be Miguel, can you go get it?" Bianca asked, pouring herself a glass of orange juice.
"Of course, at your service m'lady." Cynthia bowed and ran over to the door, and when she opened it, the person on the other side was in fact, Miguel Diaz.
"Hey, Cyn. I'm about to go and get the mail, I figured you would want to get out of the house." The Diaz boy offered, he knew that the Sari girl sometimes got overwhelmed by her aunt, because in all honestly Bianca was a handful.
"Is that okay, B?" Cynthia questioned, looking back at her aunt who was eating her food like a maniac.
"Mhm, yeah sure! Go have fun!" Bianca shooed the two teens away so, after getting her keys Cyn left to go get mail with Miguel.
"I love her, but she's mental." The young Sari girl commented as her and her friend walked.
"No comment." The Diaz boy put his hands in the air, not wanting to offend anyone.
"Whatever, I just said what everyone else is thinking." Cynthia laughed as they approached the mailbox and both opened theirs, her getting about a million letters because her aunt never checks.
"Who's that guy?" Miguel questioned, pointing at the blonde Bianca started rambling about earlier.
"Beats me, my aunt slept with him though." Cyn shrugged and both teens closed the mailbox at the same time.
"Let's go say hi." The Diaz boy started running towards him.
"Wh-" Cynthia sighed and followed behind as her friend introduced himself.
"Hey, i'm Miguel. My family and I just moved into 109, and this is Cynthia, she moved into 110 with her aunt Bianca, but I think you know who Bianca is." The boy said with an innocent smile on his face.
"Great, more immigrants." The blonde scoffed.
"Wow, you see someone like five shades darker than you and all the sudden they are an immigrant." Cynthia rolled her eyes. "No wonder my aunt is single."
"My family is actually from Riverside, and Cyn was living in Encino." Miguel cut in, the Sari girl was wondering why he was giving this guy so much information. "I was wondering if you were having trouble with your water pressure, cause I know our sink is being weird right now and..."
The boy was cut off as he watched the blonde man about to throw bottles in the trash.
"Oh, the bottles go in the blue bins—"
"This guy is a real piece of work." Cynthia blew her hair out of her face and sighed.
"Listen, Menudo and Chachi, i've lived in this shithole for ten years. The pipes don't work, the fountains full of piss, and the only good thing here is that I don't have to talk to anybody. So, nice knowing ya both." The blonde said before walking off.
"Okay, well... have a nice day.. I guess." The man got in his old car and slammed the door.
"He's a real dick." Cynthia sighed. "Don't get it get to you, Mig. I've seen guys like him, he was on the up and up and now he's hit rock bottom."
"Who have you seen like that?" Miguel asked curiously.
"My dad."
CYNTHIA ROLLED HER EYES AS SHE CLICKED through the tv channels. It seemed as if Daniel LaRusso was the main subject of each commercial that passed by and she hated it. He was the reason that her life change, she hated him.
"Did you find something good on the tv?" Miguel asked, walking towards her with a huge bowl of popcorn.
"Nope, it's all bullshit." The Sari girl shut off the tv. "How's it going? After you got beat up and all."
Miguel had told her about the night before, he got jumped by the same people she used to hang out with at school. Yes, Cynthia felt absolutely terrible about it but she also felt like there was nothing she could possibly do. They were guys, how was she supposed to defend Miguel against them?
"Actually, really good. Johnny, our neighbor said that he is going to be my sensei." The Diaz boy smiled widely, hoping his friend would be proud of him.
"The nazi Germany guy knows karate? And he's going to teach it to you?" Cyn raised a brow as she took a piece of popcorn from the bowl in Miguel's lap and raised a brow.
"He's not a nazi." Miguel defended. "He's my Sensei and he's going to teach me how to fight."
"As long as you don't try to kick my ass i'm all for it." Cynthia shrugged. "...and once he teaches you, you can show me some moves."
"You think i'll be good enough to teach you?" The Diaz boy asked, a twinkle in his eye. He loved that someone believed in him, even if it was just something small like taking a karate lesson.
"Hell yeah, you are going places, Miguel Diaz and when you get famous, don't forget about poor old me." Cyn laughed and threw a piece of popcorn at him.
"You little—" Miguel started to laugh along with her and before long, the two were in an all out popcorn war.
...and for the first time, Cynthia felt like she could be herself around a friend.
