chapter nineteen.

Jealous — Nick Jonas
CYNTHIA COULD TELL THAT HER SENSEI WAS STRUGGLING with something as he mumbled profanities in his office. She did her best to ignore it for awhile, scrubbing the dirty mats that she was used to training on but, after hearing the phrase what's wifi, she decided the man was a lost cause. How could he not at the least know what wifi was?
She had no clue.
The girl set down the sponge in her hands, wiping her hands off on her overalls before scrambling up to her feet. She was grateful the man had been so understanding about her financial problems that she decided she would help him however she could. Apparently, computer work would be the next thing on her list.
"Sensei, how can you not know what wifi is?" The girl questioned, tilting her head to the side as she made her way into the office. "I assumed when you didn't have one here, you just couldn't afford it."
"Can't buy something when you don't know how to use it." The man explained with a shrug.
"Yet you bought a computer and didn't know you need wifi to go on the internet." There was a few moments of silence and when the girl noticed a glare on her sensei's face she walked over to his desk. "Whatever, it's fine. We can bum the wifi from the convenient store, it's what I do."
"Hm, good idea." The man noted, nodding his head slightly. "Thanks for helping, kid."
"Anything to be out of the house." Cynthia took the mans computer and sat on the guest chair across from him, sitting the laptop...well, on her lap. "My dad keeps calling aunt Bianca, wants to make sure I look presentable when I meet his 25 year old fiance's parents. What the hell does that even mean?"
"Listen, kid. You can't keep letting life get you down. When my mom got married to my stepdad, I hated it, and I still do even when she's gone but, I let it affect me too much." Johnny explained with a sigh. "and I wish I hadn't, because look at me now."
"I'd say you are doing better than you were a few months ago." Cynthia typed in the wifi password for the store, resting her hands on the keyboard. "You have a business, something to live for, and you are less of a jackass."
"Which I could have done before if I wasn't so angry at everyone all the time." The Lawrence man had a point, but, he felt like this conversation was diving deeper than he would have liked so early in the morning. "Did you fix it?"
"Ah, yes. Here are the keys to the world wide web, Sensei. Use them wisely." The Sari girl handed over the laptop with a smile. "Thanks again."
Maybe Johnny Lawrence wasn't as bad as the girl originally assumed.
A DAY ON THE BEACH WITH HER CLOSEST FRIENDS was just what the doctor ordered for Cynthia. Sure, she was tired from having worked at the dojo all morning for the past few days but, she was just happy to be around friends. It was good to just have positivity around her, especially at a time like this.
"I love your bathing suit, Cyn. Where'd you get it?" Moon asked, the two girls bathing in the sun as Hawk and Demetri played volleyball.
"I honestly don't remember, it's been so long since I bought anything new." The Sari girl felt almost ashamed to say those words out loud. She had practically been rich her entire life, and now here she was, barely making ends meet.
It wasn't a bad thing, she enjoyed her life but, she knew that none of this would be happening if her parents actually worked enough to keep their family going.
"I get it—" Moon stopped speaking as she sat up straighter, taking her sunglasses off to get a better look. "Are those girls flirting with Hawk and Demetri?"
Cynthia looked over to see both boys talking to a pair of girls and her heart sunk. Part of her wanted to just trust her boyfriend but, with her past, and the examples of "love" that she had been given, that wouldn't exactly be an easy thing to do. She just had to take a few deep breaths, and not freak out too much.
"I'm sure it's nothing." The girl continued, a look of concern on her face as she seen the other girl ball her fists. "Let's just go over there and see whats happening."
"Yeah, okay, we can do that." Cyn lightly nodded her head and pushed herself up from her seat, her and her friend making their way towards the boys as the girls who were talking to them walked away. "What was that about?"
"Apparently chicks really dig Cobra Kai." Hawk responded with a grin, making the girl scoff lightly. "They want to hang out with Demetri later, you know, the one who isn't in the dojo. When are you going to join by the way?"
Cynthia's tensed body relaxed upon hearing they wanted time with Demetri, instead of her boyfriend.
"I don't know, i'm kind of enjoying the gain without the pain." The boy explained with a slight shrug.
"Hey, guys." Miguel spoke up sadly as he walked over to the group, a Cobra Kai towel slung over his shoulder.
"Hey." Cyn smiled lightly, burying her left foot in the sand to feel a bit of coolness against all the heat that the sun brought to her skin.
"Hey, there's the man." Hawk paused with a serious face upon noticing his friend was sad, shaking his head. "No, no more of this. Look, it's a beautiful day out. The beach is packed with babes, no more sulking about Sam."
"Seriously?" Cynthia listened to her urge to elbow the boy in the stomach, and she did, making him grimace and hold onto himself.
"I'm not sulking about Sam, it's about Sensei." Miguels words made his best friend furrow her brows. What about their sensei?
"Is this about his rap sheet? My parents read about it online." Hawk's words were still strained but, he seemed to have recovered and the girl laughed slightly at that. "I think it makes him more badass."
"Are you as disappointed in him as I am that he didn't know what wifi was?" Cynthia raised a slight brow. "Because that was just depressing."
"It's about him and Robby Keene. He's his son." Miguel explained. "I found a picture of him on Sensei's fridge when I went to drop off some food."
Their biggest competition at All Valley was his son? So why in the hell was he working with the mans biggest rival? There was just too much to unpack in that one.
CYNTHIA HAD THE SNEAKING SUSPICION SOMETHING WAS WRONG as she walked up the steps to her house. She had felt it all day, which is probably the reason she had asked Hawk to come over and watch movies with her in the first place. She just didn't want to be alone, and he made sure that wouldn't happen.
"Just take off your shoes at the door, I know you usually don't but it's starting to annoy Bianca." The Sari girl explained as they reached the door, taking out her keys.
"What if my socks smell or something?" The boy questioned, looking down towards his feet which were no doubt sweating after such a long day.
"I'll give you a fresh pair, I guess? That's a weird thing to worry about." Cynthia laughed slightly as she unlocked the door, pushing it open.
The smell of freshly cooked food filled her nose, and that was something... odd. Takeout and frozen dinners, with the occasional bowl of cereal or a pb&j were the meals the girl had been accustomed to eating. Never had she smelled such good food in this apartment.
"I didn't know Bianca could cook." Hawk noted as they walked further inside, the girl finally picking up onto a familiar smell.
"She can't." Cynthia's heart dropped when she seen a mans back in the kitchen, the girl gripping onto her boyfriends hand tight.
The man then turned around, a smug smile on his face.
"Long time, no see, sweetheart."
What the fuck?
