chapter nine.
Ain't that a kick in the head — Dean Martin
CYNTHIA WAS NERVOUS WHEN ELI DIDN'T SHOW UP FOR PRACTICE. She thought maybe it was her fault, like maybe the kiss that they shared wasn't good enough. It wouldn't be the first time someone left her in the dust.
"Are you okay? You seem upset." Miguel frowned slightly, his brows furrowed.
"Yeah, everything's great." Cyn put on a small smile and nodded her head. Things were going good for her best friend and she wasn't going to ruin that for him.
"Your hair looks nice, did you cut it?" The Diaz boy smiled.
"Yeah, I did." The Sari girl pushed her hair behind her shoulders and nodded once again.
Suddenly, Johnny came into the room. He didn't look impressed by the people surrounding him. The blonde man also looked a tad bit stressed, like he wasn't expecting running a dojo to be so hard. The Sari girl noticed things like that.
"There are more absences, sensei." Miguel informed him as everyone stood up perfectly straight.
"Bunch of pussies." Aisha scoffed, scanning the few students who remained with them. Cyn wondered if there was something wrong with her, why was she one of the few to stay?
"No, it's my fault." Johnny sighed.
"Taking responsibility? That's a new one, sensei." The Sari girl smiled as Miguel elbowed her slightly. "Sorry, not the time."
"Since you joined Cobra Kai, i've been nothing but hard on you." The Lawrence man began to walk, looking each of his students in the eyes. "I've called you names, i've humiliated you, some of you i've hit, and for that, I do not apologize." The blonde man spoke aloud.
"What the fuck." Cynthia mumbled to herself, furrowing her brows. She was never a quitter but that seemed more and more appealing each day.
"Cobra Kai is about strength. If you're not strong on the inside, you can't be strong on the outside and right now, you're all weak and I know that because I was you. I used to have no friends." Johnny said as he continued to walk around the students.
"This is getting insulting." The Sari girl sighed, mumbling to herself as usual. Miguel heard and smiled slightly, both of them laughing quietly.
"I used to be the weirdo kid." The Lawrence man pointed to someone behind them, Cyn couldn't tell who, she didn't want to look back and make her sensei angry. "Not that weird, I hooked up with babes and all, but..the point is, I wasn't always the badass sensei I am today. Just like a cobra I had to shed my loser skin to find my true power and you guys will too." Just as he finished, the door opened up, the small bell above it ringing.
Everyone turned their attention to the door, and Cynthia grinned as she seen who it was.
"Welcome to Cobra Kai." The Lawrence man spoke up.
"Eli, what happened?" Miguel asked with wide eyes.
"Me and Cyn decided to flip the script." He said proudly, smiling over at the girl.
"Wait, are you the kid with the lip? Nice cut, bro." Johnny pointed at him. "You see that? Doesn't matter if you're a loser or a nerd or a freak. All that matters is you become badass. Hawk, fall in."
Eli and Cynthia exchanged happy glances as he kicked off his shoes and stepped onto the mat.
"Fear does not exist in this dojo, does it?" The Lawrence man asked.
"No, sensei." Eli yelled.
"Pain does not exist in this dojo, does it?" Johnny said, his voice getting a little louder.
"No, sensei." Aisha said, standing straighter. She seemed to be the most serious about Cobra Kai.
"Defeat does not exist in this dojo, does it?" The blonde asked Miguel.
"No, sensei." He responded.
"Mercy does not exist in this dojo, does it, mouth?" Johnny questioned.
"No, sensei." Cynthia shook her head.
"Class." The Lawrence man turned around, his backs facing them. "Are you ready to learn the way of the fist?"
"Yes, sensei!"
MIGUEL AND CYNTHIA WALKED OUT OF THE dojo together. They usually stayed longer than everyone to talk to Johnny and then walked home together. The two of them liked to talk about nothing and everything because what else was there to talk about with your best friend?
"You did really good today, you are almost better than me." The Diaz boy said with a slight laugh.
"Almost? I am better than you in like a million ways." Cyn joked, elbowing him slightly.
"Well, you are smaller so I think I can take you." Miguel shrugged. "It's just a fact, we can't change that."
"Whatever, that is so untrue." The Sari girl rolled her eyes. "We are so breaking into the dojo later tonight and testing that theory."
"You're on!" The Diaz boy laughed.
The two continued to walk until they heard someone running up behind them, within a few seconds, someones arm was around Cynthia and she was looking up at him.
"Hey." The girl smiled nervously, they hadn't had an actual conversation since the kiss and her nerves were going crazy.
"Hey, Eli." Miguel smiled faintly, looking over at how the other boys arm was placed around his best friends shoulder.
"Hey, guys." Hawk responded, a grin on his face. "You look pretty today, Thia."
"Uh—...really? Thanks." The brunette stuttered over her words nervously, she couldn't understand what was wrong with her.
"She looks pretty everyday." Miguel shrugged his shoulders, a sad expression on his face. "I have to go, i'll see you guys later."
The boy sighed and walked ahead of them, leaving Cynthia relatively speechless.
"I'm kind of glad he left." Eli whispered into the shorter girls ears, just so his friend wouldn't hear what he had said.
"Why?" The Sari girl questioned with furrowed brows.
"So I can do this." The blue haired boy placed his hands on the side of the girls faced, leaning down and placing a kiss on her lips.
Cynthia felt like this was some weird dream, Eli, one of the most timid boys on the planet just kissing her. She didn't mind, of course. She cared about him way more than most people but, it was just out of character.
She stood up on her tippy toes, placing her arms around his neck, both of their eyes closed. When they pulled away, the two smiled at each other, brighter than they ever had before.
"What are you doing..like right now?" The girl asked, biting the inside of her lip as she tried to contain her smile.
"Walking you home." Eli responded, putting his arm back around her.
The two of them were happier than they had been the past few weeks, unaware that one of their closest friends were watching them. Miguel Diaz felt like his heart was going to explode out of his chest. Sad part was, he didn't even know why.
