chapter fourteen.
Freaks — Surf Curse
CYNTHIA FELT THE MOST RELAXED WITH HER FRIENDS so it was no surprise that lately, she had been hanging out with them more. The girl did her best not to distance herself like she usually did, and filled them in on everything she could to keep them updated. Some were more happy about it than others but, it just felt nice to her to be able to talk to people without fear of being laughed at.
"I see dating life is treating you well." Demetri commented as the pair of them walked down the hallway, the girl holding onto the strap of her book bag. "All my friends got into relationships at once."
"I'm sure you'll find someone too, I mean, look around, there's a shit ton of options." The Sari girl gestured around the hall. "You are a catch, Dem."
"Unfortunately, unlike you and the rest of our friends, i'm not conventionally attractive, meaning I have to achieve something great, to then gain confidence, and then I can get a hot girlfriend." The boy explained, shrugging his shoulders like it was the easiest explanation he had ever given in his life.
"I think you made things a lot more complicated than they actually are." Cynthia laughed slightly, shaking her head. "But i'll let you figure that out by yourself."
"I highly doubt that a girl would look my way unless I did something even remotely impressive." Demetri and the girl turned a corner, pushing their way out of the doors of the school, just like the other students in front of or behind them.
"Maybe you could join karate, we would all be there to help you whenever you need it." The Sari teen suggested, getting excited of the idea all her friends could enjoy the same hobby.
"Not a chance." The boy lightly shook his head as Hawk and Miguel approached, both of them smiling lightly.
One more than the other.
"You guys should convince Dem to do karate with us, wouldn't it be so fun." Cynthia whined, dreaming of their group kicking ass side by side as her boyfriend put his arm around her.
"We already tried, he won't do it." Miguel shrugged, deciding that he was finished trying to push his friend to join, it wasn't worth the weird little arguments they had on the topic, and he had a lot on his mind.
"Because he's a loser." Hawk commented, lightly scoffing as the three of his friends glared at him.
"You can act like that around other people if you want but, let's keep the dickery to a minimum with your best friends, yeah?" Cynthia questioned, everyone feeling uncomfortable as they cleared their throats.
"Yeah."
THE GROUP WAS NOW SAT AT THE PARK JOINED by Aisha and multiple other people from the dojo. Hawk was fighting the others, as Miguel complained about his Sam problems yet again. Cynthia couldn't help but feel bad for getting annoyed but, the girl couldn't help it.
"Come on, eat something, it'll make you feel better." Demetri suggested, his friend shaking his head in response. "I still think you are overreacting."
"I'm not overreacting, dude. I know what I saw." Miguel protested, shaking his head.
"All right, so you saw her eating dinner with some chode." Hawk cut in as he gave one of the kids from the dojo a roundhouse kick to the face before walking back to the bench. "It's probably her brother or something."
"Her brother is like ten." Cynthia shook her head. "But maybe a cousin, if we are trying to be optimistic."
"No, guys. Brothers and cousins do not look at their sisters like that." Once again, Miguel refused their attempts at trying to make him feel better, as most people do when they are upset.
"Depends what part of the country you're in." Demetri commented, his eyes completely blank as he did.
"Depends on what country your in." Cynthia added on, having recently learned people can get married to their family in other places. "Or time period."
"Look, I just don't want what happened to Sensei to happen to me." Miguel explained, everyone nodding their head as Aisha continued to text away on her phone.
"All right, so you go over to this kid and beat his ass so he doesn't have the choice." Hawk suggested, shrugging his shoulders as he placed a kiss on his girlfriends forehead.
"No, that would make him exactly like Sensei when he was a teenager, and it's the reason his girlfriend got taken in the first place." Cynthia lightly shook her head. "Sams not going to like it if you try and hurt her little side piece, just use your words and maybe you'll get something done."
"I agree, don't listen to Eli." Demetri nodded along as the Moskowitz boy glared at him.
"It's Hawk." He corrected, nobody caring to go along with the nickname just yet.
"Yeah, whatever. The fact is, Sam's given you no reason not to trust her." The boy reasoned, calming his friend down ever so slightly.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Miguel mumbled beneath his breath, his head hanging down low.
"Demetri and I are always right." Cynthia corrected with a smile, the two teens high-fiving as their friends rolled their eyes.
"That bitch!" Aisha yelled, quickly looking up from her phone and catching the attention of everyone else.
"What happened?" The Sari girl questioned, slightly furrowing her brows.
"You know that video I posted of me breaking that board?" The girl asked, holding her phone as if she had a secret she was about to spill.
Everyone said "yeah" in union, the girl moving her phone to their faces.
"Look what Yasmine commented." Aisha said angrily, all of their attention turning to the phone.
"Impressive... can't believe the belt made it around your waist." Cynthia read aloud, furrowing her brows at the comment. "Who does this bitch think she is?"
"I don't know but, I gotta do something." The girl replied, pulling her phone back to look at the replies.
"How about we kidnap her and have our boy Rico tattoo bitch on her face?" Eli suggested excitedly, everyone looking at him unimpressed.
"How about we don't." Cynthia replied, a sarcastic smile on her face.
"Yeah, calm down, Hawk." Demetri added on smugly, the air growing a bit tense.
"All right, I hear how you're saying it, and I don't like it." Eli replied to his best friend, furrowing his brows at the way Cyn didn't defend him.
She wasn't going to do that with the way he had been acting lately.
He was changing, a lot.
IN ATTEMPTS TO FOIL YASMINES PLANS, COBRA kai put together a party that was probably way better than whatever she was going to do. They invited everyone they could, got alcohol, snacks, and they all assumed it would be even better when the sun went down. Times like these are ones Cyn enjoyed, no, times she loved.
"So, wanna tell me about the fake ID?" The Sari girl questioned, her eyebrow quirked up a notch as she took a sip of her beer.
"I have my ways." Eli replied, snaking his hands around the girls waist as she looked upward toward him. "Why? Do you want one?"
"Mr. Moskowitz, are you asking me if I want to break the law?" Cynthia asked jokingly, letting out a slight gasp.
The air was cool that night, the breeze hitting her face as the sun sat at the horizon. She could feel the heat of the fire beside her, and she smelled the excessive amount of hairspray her boyfriend had put in his hair that morning. It was all a comfort for her, all of it helped her relax.
"Totally, we can be like Bonnie and Clyde." Hawk suggested with a smile, his forehead now resting on the shorter girls.
"Didn't they die horribly? Not sure if I want that." Cyn joked, her heartstrings being pulled at every moment she spent with the boy across from her.
"At least they died together, but yeah, maybe we should pick someone else. Uh, how about... those Jack and Rose people?" He suggested, the girl immediately laughing which made him furrow his brows.
"You are really bad at this, El." The girl could gave sworn her face was pink by then, the entire surface of it feeling warm.
"Hey, Yasmine?" The pair heard, both of them looking in the direction of where it was coming from.
They caught it just in time to see the blonde swing around to look at Aisha, the girl having her fist balled.
"Should we do something?" Hawk questioned, Cyn immediately shaking her head no in response.
"She can handle this herself, besides, it's been a long time coming." The Sari girl wore a smile as they intertwined hands, watching the scene unfold right in front of them.
"Let me help you to your car." Aisha reached forward, grabbing the girls underwear to give her a front wedgie, the blonde getting picked up from the floor. "No mercy, bitch!"
Everyone laughed as a humiliated Yasmine got thrown to the floor, the girl running off in a hurry. Cyn looked over to her friend, Moon who obviously seemed like she was in the middle of things. The girl was never bad but, she didn't try to help anyone when the blonde made fun of them.
At least she realized the error of her ways.
"Tonight was filled with excitement." Cynthia mumbled, the blue haired boy next to her understanding what she meant.
"Looks like there's more, Sam showed up with her other boyfriend." Hawk pointed to where Miguel had pushed another kid to the ground, all while Sam was yelling at him to calm down.
"Fuck." The Sari girl mumbled beneath her breath, shaking her head as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "You know he's going to regret that tomorrow, right?"
"Who cares? That guy deserved it for coming with Sam. We can defend ourselves now and if someone can't deal with that, they are going to have to cry about it." Eli spoke plainly, shrugging his shoulders.
"We are going to talk about this another time." Cyn narrowed her eyes at the boy, letting their hands drop from each other. "I'm going to make sure Miguel gets home safe, text me when you leave, okay?"
Without letting him speak, the Sari girl headed towards the argument, just as the mystery boy almost jumped at Miguel. In response, the boy swung his arm over, accidentally hitting Sam who was in the middle of all of it. Cynthia ran over after that, pulling him backward as the other guy helped Sam from the ground.
"You asshole! My dad was right about cobra kai, good luck at the tournament. I'm not coming." Sam yelled, turning and running away as the other boy trailed behind.
"What the fuck was that?" The Sari girl questioned as Miguel watched them walk away, an anger in his eyes she had never seen before.
"You wouldn't understand." The Diaz boy shook his head, running a hand through his hair. "I just want to go home."
"Fine, i'll take you."
