chapter four.

Therefore I am-Billie Eilish

THE DAY AFTER THE DANCE MIGUEL'S MOM STARTED to knock on the door, trying to figure out exactly who hurt him. Her concern with this issue was warranted, seeing as all she wanted to do was protect her child. It seemed though, no matter where she went, she wasn't getting any answers.

"Chill out! I'm coming to the damn door!" Bianca yelled as she got out of bed. Cynthia pulled the sheets over her head and sighed. 5 more minutes. That's all she wanted before school.

"It's Carmen!" The woman yelled from the other side of the door.

"Shit." Bianca raised a leg, trying to put on pants before stumbling over to the door and opening it. "Hey."

"Hey, Bianca. Can we all sit down and have a talk?" Cynthia heard Carmen ask.

"Cynthia! Get your ass out of bed now!" The older Sari woman yelled, Miguel laughed loud enough for the teen girl to hear and she sighed before hopping out of bed, kinda forgetting that she was in her "pajamas" which was only a big t-shirt.

"Are you okay?" The Sari girl ran over to Miguel and pulled him into a tight hug, which probably wasn't the best idea.

"You-you're crushing me." He said, tapping her back.

"Sorry." Cynthia stepped away apologetically and folded her hands behind her back. "I was just really worried."

"What happened to Miguel?" Bianca questioned, once Cyn got home from the dance she didn't want to talk so the Sari woman figured it was a date gone wrong.

"That's what I want to talk to her about." Carmen said, a serious but concerned look on her face.

This couldn't be good.

CYNTHIA DIDN'T GIVE UP TOO MUCH INFORMATION about who hurt Miguel. He didn't want her to and if Carmen tried to have something changed at school it would only make matters worse. The whole thing was kind of a mess.

Currently, the karate quartet, which was a total joke of a name by the way was all sitting in the library. The Sari girl skimming through a book, and the boys having a conversation about karate, again. Hence the reason she calls the group the karate quartet.

"So, that's it? No more karate?" Demetri asked curiously as Miguel scribbled in his notebook.

"I guess so." The Diaz boy shrugged his shoulders, replying with a tinge of sadness in his voice.

"It's probably for the best, it was starting to boost your confidence." The dark haired boy said.

"Isn't that a good thing?" Miguel questioned, Cynthia was half listening, reading and chewing on the end of her pen.

"No, what has confidence ever gotten out of anyone except for a black eye?" Demetri asked.

"Okay." Cynthia took her feet off of Miguel's lap. "That's it, i'm tired of hearing all three of you shit on yourselves. Miguel, you be as confident as you want. Demetri, if you want a girl like Yasmine, go get her because believe me you can and Eli, you have a little something extra on your lip but it doesn't matter because you are a good person and it doesn't even mess up the way you look!"

The Sari girl had no idea what had come over her. Maybe it was all the bullying in her school, the way these boys she had grown to care about hated themselves, or the fact that she used to treat people like shit. Whatever it was, Cynthia Sari was not going to let them think bad about themselves anymore. The remainder of the trio stayed silent, all keeping their eyes on the girl.

"Now, how about we all give each other compliments, come on, Eli. You first." The teen encouraged.

"Well, I thought it was kind if cool how you stood up to Kyler, Miguel." The boy spoke up, a nervous smile creeping up on his face.

"Are you insane?" Demetri asked.

"Here we go." The Sari girl mumbled, placing her hand on her face.

"Let me ask you, what is the best super power anyone can have?" The dark haired boy asked.

They all answered things like super strength or speed but apparently that was the incorrect answer.

"Wrong, invisibility. I guess Cynthia is right because super speed would be a close second in order to run away fast." Demetri admitted.

"Run away from who?" Kyler asked, placing a hand on Cynthia's shoulder which she immediately shook away.

"Whom." His friend who held her back the night before corrected. "It's the object of preposition. Remember English class."

All the boys started to get up, but the Sari girl couldn't, Kyler had her chair basically pinned against the seat.

"We were just leaving, come on Cyn, let's go." Miguel said, gathering all his things together. The boys all got up and Kyler moved just enough so that she could get out of her seat.

"Hey, where are you going?" The bully asked, grabbing Eli's face. "Look at this freak."

"Oh shit." Brucks, Kyler's friend said as he started laughing loudly.

"Let him go, Kyler." Cynthia was absolutely tired of her ex bullying her new friends, she hated him.

"What kind of girl would ever kiss this shit?" He asked, the Sari girl took in a deep breath before she spoke up.

"Maybe I would, let him go, asshole." The teen girl glared at him and took Eli's arm, trying to pull him from Kyler's grip.

"Go ahead then, do it." Kyler pushed the Moskowitz boy her way. "I'm waiting."

"Are you okay with that, Eli?" Cynthia asked, she really didn't care about people being around. She didn't want Eli to get bullied anymore and she'd do anything to help.

The boy slowly nodded his head, everyone watching the both of them. The Sari girl nodded and gave him a kiss, one that was short but long enough to prove her point and stun Eli.

"Now, leave them alone, Kyler." Miguel said angrily.

"What'd you say?" The bully asked, pushing Eli out of the way and stepping up to the Diaz boy. "You haven't had enough, Rhea? Yeah. Get the hell out of here."

Kyler pushed Miguel by the face and Cynthia sighed, balling her hands into a fist and digging her fingernails into her palms. Eli and Miguel walked away, Demetri trying to follow when Kyler grabbed his bag and threw it into the trash.

"Hey, Ky." Cynthia smiled as he turned around, convincing the boy that she was trying to be friendly.

"What's up? You want me back already?" The boy questioned arrogantly.

"No, what I want is for you to stop being a dick." The Sari girl held his shoulders and raised her knee up harshly, kicking him in the balls. "You and grizzly bear have a nice day."

She smiled before slinging her bag in her shoulder and stomping off.

CYNTHIA AND MIGUEL WERE SITTING ON THE floor of the convenient store, their favorite place to just sit it talk about their days, life, or just random things in general. It was times like these that gave her comfort above all else. It was something small but, something that she needed to keep her in a good mood.

"So, um, are you and Eli like... a thing?" The Diaz boy questioned, taking a sip from his red slushie.

"What do you mean?" Cynthia furrowed her brows curiously, digging her hand in her bag of chips and placing one in her mouth.

"Are you dating?" Miguel asked plainly, looking at the girl as she chewed. She held her finger up in the air, signaling for him to wait as she ate.

"Nope, why would we be dating?" The Sari girl questioned, wiping her hands on a napkin.

"Because you always hold his hand, and you kissed him." The Diaz boy said innocently, playing with his fingers.

"I hold his hand because he gets upset, and I kissed him because of Kyler bullying him, I would do the same for you or Demetri." Cynthia shrugged her shoulders. "It's really not a big deal, Mig."

"I guess." The boy frowned slightly, wondering why he even cared and got up to his feet. "Want to go watch tv with my mom and grandma?"

"There is no way i'd rather spend my night." Cynthia laughed, getting up and cleaning her things.

For a moment, she looked down into her cup, the colors red and blue popping out at her. It was weird how she always remembered that one moment, not because of the food, or Miguel. But because of that blue and red.
