chapter eight.
Keep holding on—Avril Lavigne
CYNTHIA HAD ACTUALLY BEGUN TO ENJOY KARATE. More and more people had started rolling in to get lessons at Cobra Kai and it started to seem as if things were looking up. The Sari girl punched Miguel's hands as he tried to dodge them, the pair and about fifteen other people waiting for Johnny to come out of his office.
Some of the people looked scared, some admired Cyn and Miguel because of the fight in the cafeteria but some of them, they looked ready to fight. The teen smiled as she seen Eli from across the room, he actually came which surprised her, and she was even more surprised that Demetri was with him.
"We did good, Miggy." Cynthia punched the Diaz's boy hand one more time before the two exchanged smiles and perked up at the sound of Johnny's voice.
"Okay, today we begin..." the blonde man stopped when it seemed like nobody was paying attention. "Quiet! Face front."
Everyone followed directions, Cynthia surrounded by Aisha and Miguel on either side of her.
"Nice shirt." Johnny commented as he walked passed Demetri, his arms folded behind his back.
"Thank y—"
"I'm joking it sucks." Cynthia frowned slightly and watched as the Lawrence man walked through the aisles of kids, watching their moves, the way they dressed, every aspect of them. "Word of advice, if you've got shit for teeth don't smile."
The blonde said to another student who simply wanted to join his dojo. Cynthia rolled her eyes and sighed, there wasn't much she could do. He was the boss, and sometimes she had to accept that.
"When I see you all, I don't see Cobra Kai material. I see losers, I see nerds, I see a fat kid with a funny hat and his tits popping at but, in my short time as a sensei, I've also seen some miracles." The man looked at his first three students. "So, maybe there's some hope for you yet but first I need to see where everybody's at so fall in!"
Nobody really knew what to do at that point so, they just stood there until Johnny directed them into the right positions.
It was safe to say this would be a long day at the Cobra Kai dojo.
BEFORE LONG, ALMOST EVERYONE WAS GETTING a hang on things. Within about an hour, they were all in formation going through regular training routines. Cynthia glanced back to lock eyes with Eli every couple minutes and it seemed like he was doing pretty well, until Johnny decided to pick on him.
"Hey, Lip! Yeah you the one with the freaky lip. Who do you think i'm talking to?" Johnny asked.
"He is such a piece of—" The Sari girl began to step forward but Miguel quickly pulled her back, shaking his head.
"Excuse me, Mr. Lawrence?" Demetri called out.
"Sensei Lawrence!" Aisha responded, yelling loudly.
"Okay." The skinny boy shrugged before turning his attention back to Johnny. "You really shouldn't make fun of someone's physical appearance."
"Oh? Is that so? I'm not supposed to mention his lip at all?" The sensei asked.
"Yeah, you dick. How would you like it if I mentioned how tubby those beers are making you?" Cynthia questioned.
"I wouldn't care, because school teaches you to be all nice but in the real world, you can't expect people to do what they're supposed to." The blonde man stated confidently. "You hear that, Lip? If you can't handle someone making fun of you, how are you gonna handle an elbow to the teeth?
"By calling the police?" Demetri said as if it was a fact.
"Dude, stop." Miguel's eyes widened slightly at his skinner friend.
"He does realize the nazi's lost the war, right?" The dark haired boy asked.
"Thank you! I've been calling him a nazi for weeks now." Cynthia let out a sigh, shaking her head and placing her hand on her forehead.
The long conversation continued to drone on between Demetri and Johnny, neither of them backing down from there points of view. At some points it seemed as if the blonde knew he was wrong and didn't want to admit it. The whole situation was very draining.
Before anyone knew it, Johnny was in front of Dem, the "geeky" boy throwing weak punches at him, all of which he dodged. The Lawrence man quickly flipped Demetri, the boy harshly landing on his back. It almost hurt Cynthia to see it happen.
"Let this be a lesson to all of you."
After that, it seemed as if practice basically finished itself up.
THE NEXT FEW PRACTICES WERE PACKED WITH JOHNNY throwing insults at the kids, he even said something about Cyn's style and her hair. Which, she had to admit got to her but, she also knew that the blonde mans words got to someone even more. She knocked softly on Eli's bedroom door and after a few seconds of waiting, he opened up.
"Hey, Thia. What are you doing here?" He asked quietly, wiping his face that looked drenched in tears.
"I had an idea, and you are a part of it." The girl tried to maintain her smile when she wanted so desperately to frown and wipe the tears of her friends face. "Can I come in?"
"Uh, yeah." Eli nodded, moving away enough to let the girl pass by. No girl had ever been in his room beside his mom, and Cynthia being the second female to step foot in his room was a bit...much for him?
"I have this idea, and you can say no, obviously but it would probably make us both feel better." The Sari girl stated as he shut the room to his bedroom.
"Well, what is it?" The two teens sat on Eli's bed, closer than either of them calculated in their heads.
"I think we both need a new hair-do plus I know a tattoo guy." She whispered low enough that Miss Moskowitz wouldn't hear.
"Seriously?" The young man's eyes widened at the thought of new hairdos or tattoos but, with Cyn near him he felt like he would do anything to make her smile.
"Deadly, it'll be funnnn." Cynthia said in a sing song voice, holding out a bottle of hair dye with a smile.
"Fine, if you promise not to laugh at me." Eli said, looking out the ground, he glanced towards his lap once he noticed his friends fingers running along his hand for comfort.
"I could never, scout's honor. You'd probably look hot anyways, there is no way a bit of hair dye is going to make you ugly." The Sari girl shrugged.
"What do you mean?" The Moskowitz boy questioned.
"You are already good looking." Cynthia got up from the bed and walked towards his mirror, placing her bag on his desk. "I'll go first."
WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR, CYNTHIA'S HAIR WAS RESTING was above her shoulders and she was rinsing the dye from Eli's hair. She laughed as he squirmed around awkwardly, pools of blue staining the bathtub. It was nice spending time alone with the boy, the Sari girl just felt relaxed with him.
"Quit it, El! You are going to get stains all over my shirt and then we can't go to the tattoo parlor." Cyn continued to laugh, spraying the shower head into his hair.
"Does the water have to be so cold?" The Moskowitz boy whined.
"Honestly? I have no idea what i'm doing so maybe not." Cynthia got up to her feet, grabbing a towel and bending down to wrap it around her hair.
"That's comforting." Eli mumbled, shaking his head lightly. "What if I go bald?"
"Then everyone will call you baldy." The Sari girl shook the towel on top of his head, trying to dry it completely.
"Your hair actually looks good, though. It's not a team effort if you look pretty and I look... weird." The now blue haired boy sighed.
"Did you just call me pretty?" Cynthia grinned.
"I—.. uh.. yeah?" Eli's voice squeaked, making the girl laugh yet again.
"I don't know why you're scared, i've said you were cute a million times." The Sari girl moved slightly closer. "...and believe it or not, I liked you before this and I will after too."
"Like me?" The Moskowitz boy asked.
"Yup, like and not like eh, I like Eli. No, I like like El." Cynthia bit the inside of her lip. "Whatever that means."
"Me too." The blue haired boy smiled slightly. "I just didn't think that you'd uh, see me like that."
"You thought wrong." The Sari girl's leg began to shake. "Well, maybe at first but then things kinda just changed."
"Thia?" Eli asked innocently.
"Hm." The girl glanced in his direction, pushing her hair behind her ear.
"Can I kiss you?"
