Mad Dash
Tiara’s P.O.V
“Fred has an accident,”
Tobi and I shared a glance, and as if we had communicated without speaking, we ran off after Fikkie. It was just a week to her wedding, and she heard her fiancé had an accident. I could only imagine how she felt.
By the time we got to the car park, her carimaginealready moved. We had no ideas if she was driving on her own or if there was someone else with her in the car. I didn’t bring a car, so I had no idea what to do, but soon I heard a horn and turned to see Tobi in his car, I sighed.
“Come in. We’ve no idea where she’s going to, so the only way is to trail her.” I nodded and ran into his car. I wasn’t done with the seat belt when he drove off. It was a mad dash, and I had to hold the door so I don’t get thrown forward.
The speed made my inside turn, but I held the urge to puke.
“I can see her car.” Tobi announced.
I could barely see anything with his speed. So I nodded. Soon, I was able to see Fikkie’s car running in front of us. It seemed we weren’t the only one on a dash run.
I could see the way she kept cutting in front of others. The way she was driving was dangerous, which made me conclude that she was alone in the car. If there was someone else in her car; the person might have made her drive more safely.
All I could do was pray for her to get there safely and also for us.
After a few more turns, we finally arrived at the hospital. I tried to regain my breath before coming out of the car.
“Fikkie.” I called, but she didn’t hear as she ran into the building.
More cars arrived behind us, and I looked back to see more of the ladies and groomsmen behind us.
I sighed in relief.
At least, she had people who were concerned for her.
“Where’s she?”
One of the ladies that got out of the car asked me. I shrugged, finally going into the hospital, but then I saw that Tobi wasn’t moving.
I stopped, but he wasn’t looking at me, but something behind me. When I followed his gaze, he was looking at Daniel, and Daniel was looking at me. I sighed.
I barely have time for this drama, not when someone health is at stake. Finally, Daniel took his eyes off me and went into the hospital.
“Tobi…” I whispered. I had no idea what to say to assure him that there really was nothing going between him and I.
“Babe…” he cut me off, “…just go and see your friend. I’ll wait in the car.”
My eyes roamed the parking lot, and there was no one here but us. “But babe…”
He stopped me again, “You need to be fast. Check if your friend is okay and let me know. I’ll be waiting for you here. Don’t stay too long.”
He opened the car door and got inside. I knew there was nothing that would change his mind. He already made his decision, and I have no right to blame him over it. It would be selfish of me.
So, I turned towards the hospital and left him there. I made enquiries about Fred, and I was asked to wait in the waiting room. When I got there, everyone was waiting there, including Fikkie.
I asked one of the ladies what’s happening and she told me they were operating on him. They won’t allow anyone to see him for now.
Fikkie sat on the floor in careless abandon, and two of the ladies sat beside her, trying to calm her down.
Suddenly, I heard a small whisper. Because I was so alert to everything going around me, I turned my head towards the direction, and I saw Tina’s head.
I frowned.
What was Tina doing at the hospital when she’s supposed to be on her way to Lagos or be in Lagos right now?
She beckons for me to come, and as I make a move to go to her, Daniel stepped in front of me. My gaze moved to where Tina was hiding, and there was no sign of her there.
I turned my attention to Daniel.
“What do you want?”
His face looked sleep derived and tired. They were little sleepy bags under his eyes. “We need to talk.”
My gaze moved to the others who were so focused on watching the door. “Not here.”
He nodded, “I know. Can we talk outside?”
I blinked but shook my head, “My boyfriend is waiting for me outside. I’m sorry I am not so keen on being seen with you at the moment.”
He stared like me like he couldn’t believe I just said that. But that didn’t make him stop his persuasion. “What about when we get back to the hotel?”
I knew there was no way to avoid him, completely, until I left here, so I nodded. “Fine.”
I stole a glance again to look at Tina, and I briefly saw her before she hid back. Daniel also looked in that direction, probably to see what I was staring at, but thankfully, Tina already hid back.
“Okay. Please excuse me, I want to pee.”
Daniel nodded but then said something that made me stop, “I can follow you sha.”
I cringe at the thought of him following me to the bathroom and excuse him. I moved slowly until I turned towards Tina’s direction.
She pulled me along with her, and we didn’t stop until we reached the female toilet. She pushed us and locked the door behind.
“What’s going on?” I asked because I couldn’t help it. The curiosity is biting me from within, “What are you doing here? Are you not supposed to be in Lagos?”
She sneered but didn’t answer my question. “How’s Fred?”
I shrugged, “No idea yet. They are operating on him.”
She cursed, “Mehn, I should have told him yes. He might not have left my place in anger.”
My brow furrowed, “What do you mean by that?”
She sighed, “Fred is planning to call of the wedding. He doesn’t love Fikayo anymore.”
