The Fan Club's Official Threat

The noisy skid of sneakers against the slippery surface of the indoor court overpowered all of my hearing as the guys and I played, the basketball dribbling loudly. Due to the chilly weather, coach had decided to host classes in the indoor courts the school has to offer. Most of the guys had headed toward the gym to work out, located in a separate area. The girls in class were playing volleyball on the opposite side of the court.

"May, here!" Damien said, waving his hand over at me impatiently. I passed him the ball and watched as he effortlessly dunked it into the hoop, letting out a 'whoop' of success. Turning away from the guys, I glanced over at my female classmates.

They were laughing and talking among themselves as they played, most of them good friends by the looks of it. Two of the girls met my gaze when they took a water break, eyeing me before whispering together, gossiping of course. I wasn't a fool to be oblivious to the fact that being part of a social circle that was formerly a trio of the 'hottest and greatest' guys in school would come with its share of troubles. It didn't bother me that I was getting excluded by mostly everyone else in my class, and the few that did approach me, did so out of fear, admiration or the fact that they were already friends with the guys.

So far, I hadn't once seriously regretted my decision of associating myself with Damien, Leo and Nick, and I hoped I never would. But it felt like a door was being slammed in my face every time I tried speaking to someone different, someone who already perceived me as 'one of them'.

I felt an arm drop around my shoulder and looked up to see Nick. His eyes had followed mine to the girls, and as if he had read my thoughts, he spoke happily, "You have us, May! Don't mind those girls that call themselves our fellow senior comrades." Even in intended insults, Nick managed to come off sounding incredibly nice. I cracked a smile at his choice of words.

The bell went off overhead before I could respond. P.E had ended and lunch break had begun. We had a whole 45 minutes to ourselves to chill before the last two periods of this Monday came about. The girls from the volleyball section came jogging forward and went past the four of us to the exit of the gym.

"I should probably go too," I said, slipping out of Nick's half-hug. "I'll see you guys at our spot."

Damien's smile widened at the way I had said 'our spot'. I don't know when I'd started calling it that, but couldn't help but smile a little bit myself. I was growing more comfortable with them to address it in such a way. Being 'one of them' didn't entail anything bad after all.

The guys nodded and I turned my back on them, exiting the court and heading toward the girls locker room.

When I entered the locker room to the sound of giggling and conversations, I was glad that not many of them minded my added presence and continued, avoiding the eyes of the girls around me.

I had stowed my bag and my change of clothes in a locker at the way back, in an area which wasn't normally used. Taking my key out of my gym shorts, I took out my belongings from the locker and set them on the bench. Using a small towel, I dabbed at the sweat that had pooled at the back of my neck. God, I smelled.

Deciding it would be best to have a quick shower before meeting the guys for lunch, I grabbed a towel from the open shelf and turned around to make my way to the showers but instead, collided headfirst into someone.

"Ouch." I rubbed my forehead, and peered through my narrowed eyes at the girl who had barged into me. I expected it to be a random stranger but was surprised at the recognition that spread through. It was Katie Collins. And by the look on her face, I got the feeling that our bump hadn't been purely accidental on her part.

Her short brown hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail, bringing out her sharp cheekbones and broad forehead that glistened with sweat. Her blue eyes glimmered in undeniable anger, cold and harsh as she glared down at me in a way that made me want to recoil away. The last time I had seen her was at the party at Nick's place. Back then, I would never have guessed that she could look at anyone with so much distaste and hatred, the way she was now.

"Well well, Makalya Summers," she spoke loudly, crossing her arms in front of her chest as a malicious grin warped the features of her face. "Didn't think I'd be fortunate enough to catch you alone."

What was she even doing here in the locker room? It was our class that had just had P.E. She's an 11th grader and yet sneered at me like I was her junior. Four girls stood behind her, just as pretty as her. Thin, slender, tall and utterly ravishing. And yet...they too, looked angry at me. Had I murdered people's poodles in my sleep again?

Biting back a laugh at the thought, I cleared my throat and said, "Yes, it's nice to see you too Katie. How are you doing?"

She scowled at my words and stepped toward me all too suddenly, her hand shooting forward and punching the locker just behind my head. Her supporters watched, eyes widening briefly before scuttling closer and surrounding us on all sides, effectively trapping me against the lockers behind us.

"I'm not here to make small talk with you Summers," Katie growled. 'I'm here to warn you."

Katie towered above me, her hand planted firmly near the left side of my face. I could still feel the rattle of the metal from when she'd slapped her hand against the surface in an attempt to scare me. For what reason?

"About what exactly?"

"As if you don't know," she snorted. "Don't get so full of yourself just because they've taken you in."

They? Could she be talking about...

"You don't mean Nick, Leo and Da-"

"Damien, yes," she interrupted. "You're just a stray that he's chosen to pick up. You're nothing but another girl who caught his eye. Just like all the others."

My mind put together the pieces of a blatantly obvious puzzle. "He dumped you just like he'd said he would," I declared, sounding way too enthusiastic as I clicked my fingers together. Jumping back like I'd struck her with the force of a lightning bolt, Katie glowered at me, her body twitching in irritation.

"You're not really upset about the fact that I'm part of their group. You're upset that I'm friends with Damien."

She gnashed her teeth together so hard that I was afraid she might break 'em.

"You think you're so special just because he's holding on to you longer than he has the rest of us but let me tell you something Summers-" she paused for dramatic effect, and raised a hand up in the air before bringing it back down with a swoosh, pointing at herself. Puffing her chest out, she boomed, "we, the official Damien Cross fan club, cannot tolerate such a crime."

I blinked, watching silently as her fellow 'fan club' members stepped forwards, stomping their feet on the ground loudly and actually shouted, 'Hail Damien!' Had I just stepped into a real-life anime?

Stifling a laugh, I raised my hands in front of me as a form of peace. "Listen, Katie, Damien and I are just friends."

"Oh?" she perked up at the news, scowl faltering for a second. "So it's true you're dating Leo then?"

I shook my head.

"Oh, so then Nick?" One of the other girls piped up.

I shook my head even harder.

"I'm just friends with those three. Sure, it's true that they sort of adopted me into their group but," slipping my hands into my shorts pockets, I shrugged and continued, "I hardly think it calls for an official declaration of war from the uh... 'I heart Damien' club." I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing at the end, something I knew that Katie would not have appreciated one bit. Although she looked a tad bit calmer now, she didn't let my words faze her completely.

"Whatever, but if you lay one hand on our man, we'll come after you Summers. I, Katie Collins, leader of this club, promise you that."

I gave her a mock salute and watched as she let out a 'hmph' and walked away, showing off her sass. Her friends threw me heated glances before following after her. When they had finally disappeared from sight, I turned back to pick up the towel for my shower and could no longer hold back the laughter that had been bubbling up.

Should I find it funny that I had, technically, been threatened by a group of Damien-thirsty plastics? No. Should I be worried about the fact that I was the official target of a deranged fan club? Yes.

Instead, I decided to go take a much needed shower and laugh the whole while about the soap opera my life had become.

--------------------CHAPTER END---------------------

A/N: So what did you guys think? Do you think May should be more freaked out about her encounter with the I Heart Damien fan club? Do you think they'll bring her sorrow later? (Hint: you're on the right track if you do) let me know what you guys thought of the chapter down in the comments! ;)
