6. Demons From Hell
I couldn't feel it. Not at first anyways. It crept in, slowly but surely it reached its tendrils around my throat: around my brain. I couldn't feel my arm. From the tips on my fingers up to the base of my arm, I couldn't feel it. Little sparks of electricity, like the static on an old television, prickled at my nerves. I could feel the cold. The deep cold that froze me down to my bones. Hell is not hot. Hell was unGodly cold.
Wake up.
I launched up from my bed. My heart hurt with how fast it beat and how my chest heaved. I could feel my arm. It still tingled with the ghost of electricity, but the fear that was settled into my stomach slowly lifted away.
"Gross," I felt the sweat that coated my back and all other parts of my body, "I need some air. I need to cool off and calm down."
I changed into my uniform which felt like home; however it didn't feel like the cool night sky as
my bare legs greeted the air. I don't know how long I flew, but the nightmare of that night was only a memory by then.
"Help!" A scream. A curdling scream filled the night air. I honed on the source which was a dark lit street just around the block. "Help!" The voice screamed again.
I was disgusted with the sight. Men and boys alike surrounded a young women, looking at her like they were animals. The mere sight made something inside me snap.
"Get away from her!" I swooped down, kicking down the man closest to her. In a flurry of fists, I fought back.
"Who are you?" One man spat, blood trailing from the side of his mouth.
"I'm Thunderstruck, but definitely not by you. You're a disgusting lowlife. Get out of my sight before I lose my cool." He could hear the coldness in my voice enough where he realized his mistake. Him and his gang where gone within seconds. When I scanned the girl, it looks like I got there in time. They hadn't touched her.
"Are you okay, ma'am?" She couldn't have been any older than myself. "Is there somewhere I can take you? Home or maybe a friend's?"
"H-home."
"Do you mind if I touch you, to help you up?" I asked and she nodded. When I reached down, she threw her arm around my shoulders where I could help her up. We stumbled together towards to street. It was taking awfully long just to get out of the alley street, but I didn't want to fly with her. She was scared and nervous and flying wouldn't help with that, especially for someone who had never done it before. I was nervous that we were taking too long, that the walking would just make her feel worse.
"Thank you," she mustered from the silence.
"You don't need to thank me," I said. "But do you mind if I pick you up? I can fly you home." She nodded again. I scooped her up, classic hero style, into my arms.
"I'll get you home." She told me where she lived and we flew in silence. When I landed at the apartment building only blocks away I gingerly placed her down at the steps.
"They said they were from Hell," she sobbed, breaking the composer she so delicacy had. "Demons from Hell."
"They were demons. Human monsters and I'm sorry you had to face that." When I said that, it didn't feel right. Maybe she was into something.
"Thank you again. What are you're name?" She wiped the tears that fell on her cheeks.
"Thunderstruck, my name is Thunderstruck."
"Thank you, Thunderstruck. I don't know what I would've done—"
"It's alright. I'm just glad I could've been there," I said.

When I got back to where I was staying, I paced the wooden floors. Something wasn't right. I have saved plenty of people, but this was different. What she had said about demons from Hell rung in my brain. I didn't believe in Hell in the modern sense. It was very real and it was the Underworld, but there had never been any major problems from them in decades.
"We need to talk," I called Mom. "Something is wrong."
